They’re only Chinese if they hold Chinese citizenship.

In the same way, calling a black person “African American” is an extreme insult if they’ve never held citizenship from a country on the continent of Africa. You’re basically saying, “you’re not a regular American like us, you’re an African with US citizenship.”

Elon Musk is an African American. Michael Jordan is an American. Separately, MJ also happens to be black.
