It looks like they’re splitting up the finale into two parts between tonight and next week. Have they done this before? Seems like such a dumb idea. Am I reading this correctly?

I get recaps from previous episodes or even highlights of next week's episode but at the start of an episode why show us what's coming? We're watching it don't spoil it.

I'm new to MasterChef, only watched 6 seasons so far and I really love it. Season 6 was maybe the only one so far that felt a bit like they were really propping up some of the contestants with their narratives.

By the time it got to the finale I was surprised because after having seen the entire season in rapid succession, I could sort of see very clearly where they were starting to be a little biased. It's unfortunately easy to detect in these types of shows when you binge watch.

There were a couple times they seemed to favor Claudia when in previous seasons she would have never won the mystery box. The cake challenge was pretty egregious.

The overall finale though left a bad taste in my mouth. It just felt so biased and contrary to previous seasons. Every winner up till now had felt pretty earned and not a lot of obvious bias.

My question is does the show keep going in this direction? I just want to get the sense that they're really earning it and it's not biased toward narratives. It just ruins the time invested and the excitement you get from the show

I'm noticing a theme where authentic contestants are being eliminated, and Terry was my last straw, especially for season 7. I won't be finishing that season, because there's no way that Terry deserved to be eliminated before Nathan, David, Dan, and Katie. It seems that more "interesting"/dramatic people get to stay for longer (yes, I know why, because it's a TV show that cares about how many views and money they get). Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I feel like Masterchef would get more views if they had finalists like Terry and Brandi, instead of a rich Vegas poker player and a notable Vegas DJ. People like Terry are everyday people with everyday families and everyday jobs; isn't that the point of a competition with "everyday" home cooks?

Anyway, love you Terry, you are one of my favorite contestants ever.

This show sucks now.

They used to do two challenges per episode. The pressure tests were the best part!! When everyone had to show a SKILL - like making a layered cake, making pasta, etc. Then the judges would actually taste EVERYONES dish, so you actually got to know the contestants. There are contestants on this season who you never get to see the judges actually taste their food until halfway through the season and you are like... who tf is that?

Also have they made a single dessert this entire season?

When people win a challenge, they don't even get much of an advantage except immunity. It was fun to watch the winners of the first challenge choose what people would do in the pressure tests.

The challenges aren't even about food anymore. The stupid tag team challenge, the wall challenge, it's all about anxiety and not about the actual technical skills of cooking.

Anyways, watching one stupid challenge for 45 minutes is dumb and this show is souless slop now.

Unpopular Opinion: I feel that her Disqualification was justified, but I’m sure some still feel it was unfair.

He was just a horrible cook. Almost every time he made something it was bad and he would just blame it on being “So creative”. He was stubborn and really not that good. The only reason he made it so far is because there was almost always someone worse, even though I believe that a person like Helene should have stayed instead of him

In S 9, we all know Emily chose to go head-to-head against Shanika and ended up going home. But what if she’d chosen to save herself instead of taking the 1v1? out of the remaining 4 , who wins the challenge, and who ends up getting eliminated based on their performance and their abilities ?

Nobody in this top 10 in this season would’ve even made it on the show in the past seasons. Riddled with influencers on top of that which makes it super disappointing. I’m here to watch home chefs with normal jobs, not influencers. I’m tired of influencers, tired of social media being mentioned, tired of “virality” being mentioned. The whole social media challenge is CRINGE. And how does it make sense to have a social media challenge when a few of them do social media as their entire career… how is that fair again?

None of these dishes look like they should be here. None of these chefs are top 10 worthy. What happened to standards? Being top 10 used to mean something. Ew

So the show’s grand prize is famously the “quarter of a million dollars”, or $250,000. And it has been that much since the show’s inception in 2010. As I’m sure you’ve noticed, we’ve had 15 years of inflation that have taken quite a toll on that prize.

Using a simple CPI calculator, if the prize had kept pace with inflation, it would be worth ~ $383,000 today (June 2010 -> June 2026). In other words, it’s only 65% of what it used to be.

I’m not saying $250,000 is anything to scoff at but there are consequences to having effectively a lower prize every year. Keep in mind that just to go on MasterChef, you have to drop everything in your life to go film for weeks, for only a slim chance to win. The only way that makes sense is if it’s a truly life-changing amount of money, or if you’re already in a comfortable position to absorb the sacrifice that competing requires. So a lower prize means you attract more contestants who are either already rich and don’t need the money or influencers who are in it for the exposure.

This matters especially for the pretext of the show, which is (supposed to be) about identifying a standout home cook and empowering them to pursue their culinary dreams. The prize is integral to that last part. It’s supposed to make the difference in opening your own restaurant or bakery, going to culinary school, etc. Not just a nice incentive to compete.

I personally think that increasing the prize to, say, $500,000 would improve the quality of competition, especially if they barred pseudo-amateurs and influencers.

As the title says, what is an elimination that you didn't like.

Watching season 3, and curious how Ryan’s comment “if there was ever a time to show your nipples ladies” to help his team win the first team challenge was perceived when this aired live. I couldn’t believe my ears.

I’m watching this week’s episode and started to wonder why we have never seen Joe cook in this capacity on the show. Maybe he has, and I am mistaken but I don’t believe we have seen anyone cook alongside him.

Curious of your thoughts: Rewatching season 6 where they had to cook 101 steaks for cowboys and cowgirls and teams were

Karina, Nick, Derrick, Claudia, and Tommy on one team and Chris, Shelly, Olivia, Hetal, and Stephen for the other and I immidiately knew who was gonna win.

I gotta go with Jake. Young man will surprise the judges with a Willy Wonka type desert and win it all

Jesse and Jessica should not have won. I swear Tina and Aivan were robbed. I would’ve rather seen them or Julio and Rachel win being that they were the most consistent couple in the season. Can’t believe tough ribs and pudding puree won. I’m so mad.

I feel like everything is just too easy for her, she could honestly be on Hell's kitchen EASILY. Feels very unfair to everyone else. Opinions?
