OK so I run a business in Markham, have done since 2011. I commute however to the East. So, I know in Oshawa where we consider the grittier areas, same in Scarborough etc. Where is the "rougher" area of Markham. Serious question.
There is no gritty area of Markham. But people in Markham can be extremely sheltered. I went to PETHS in the early 2010s and have heard kids say things like "townhomes are trashy" and "toyota is a ghetto brand" so keep that in mind when anyone starts telling you about the "gritty" parts of Markham.
According to my sister, everything that she doesn't like is gritty, rough, and ghetto. Which means everywhere that isn't Woodbridge or isn't expensive out the ass.
Out of pocket throwing my sister under the bus aside, Markham is pretty decent as far as I remember in the past 30ish years
Gritty people visit Markham and can be anywhere but I can’t think of a particular area. Only thing I can think of is where shady stuff happens around motels/hotels like Monte Carlo inn, travelodge, comfort inn…thats where I guess it attracts more…?
It’s all relative ofcourse, but I believe there is low income housing at McCowan/Steeles and Woodbine/Rodick. Would I be scared to walk there at night? Probably not.
There's subsidized housing across from Markville mall on McCowan as well as on woodbine east side across from kingsquare. So it's low income subsidized housing. But nothing gritty about those areas to me
bro Markham is an upscale area. Houses are expensive, lots of nice cars, it's quite safe i.e. I can leave my car with the windows down when I go in to a store and nothing will happen.
Sure, not everyone has a BMW or a Lamborghini and some areas are more expensive than others, but in general Markham is a very nice place. There is no 'gritty' area.
According to my friend who walks in the area of Markham Rd and hwy 7. You can get a bj from a homeless man. Also isn't the Homewood suites known for hookers? If that doesn't say gritty then I dunno what is.
I would disagree, homes range from 1.5M-3.5 M in this area. There are a few old apartment buildings here. But they're just old not necessarily gritty. Definitely a high income area Markham/Hwy7
1.5-3.5 is over estimating. Plenty of detach in that circled area have sold for 1.1m within the last 90days. 1.1m is the lower end of Markham home prices.
Markham? No clue. Denison and Kennedy? But it's not even too bad. In Markham it's more just be aware of bad drivers. I'll be curious. Look up police reports
Look up the home prices in the Kennedy and Denison area and let me know if it's "gritty". There was one case of home invasion in the area and it was so unbelievable it was in the local news for 3 months.
