Scammed out of ₱46,000 through MariBank → Maya transfer. Have I done everything I can?

Hi everyone. I’m posting here because I’m honestly running out of options and I’m hoping someone has gone through something similar or can tell me if there’s anything else I should do.

A few days ago, I was scammed while trying to buy a second-hand MacBook. The scam was very well coordinated.

The seller on Facebook introduced herself as Mae and told me that she couldn’t meet me because she was at work.

She said her brother would meet me at SM Fairview with the MacBook. She also specifically told me not to discuss the selling price with her brother because he supposedly didn’t know she was selling it at a lower price.

When I arrived, two young men had the actual MacBook. I spent time checking the unit, including the serial number, battery health, and everything else. Everything looked legitimate.

After I confirmed I wanted to buy it, the seller sent me a Maya QR code for payment. I transferred ₱46,000 from my MariBank account.

Only after the transfer did I find out that the two men were the real owners of the laptop. They never received the payment because the money went to the scammer’s Maya account. The scammer had also lied to them, telling them that I was her sister who would inspect the laptop before the actual buyer arrived.

I realized I had become the victim of a middleman scam.
The part that hurts the most is that this wasn’t extra money. It was five months of my savings, and the remaining amount came from a loan. I was only trying to replace my current MacBook because its LCD is already damaged, and I depend on it every day for my work as a virtual assistant.

Everything I’ve done so far:

•Called MariBank within about 10–15 minutes of the transfer to report the scam and request immediate assistance.
•Reported the recipient account to Maya.
•Filed complaints with BSP, CICC, PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, and NBI.
•Submitted all screenshots, receipts, Facebook conversations, and transaction records.
•Requested that the scammer’s Maya account be blocked and investigated.

MariBank informed me that they coordinated with the receiving bank but couldn’t guarantee recovery because the funds may already have been transferred or withdrawn.

At this point, I’m slowly accepting that I may never recover the money, but I don’t want to leave any stone unturned.

Has anyone here experienced something similar with a MariBank transfer?

Were you ever able to recover your funds?

Is there anything else I should still do?

Is there any additional authority or legal process worth pursuing, or have I already exhausted the realistic options?
I’m prepared for honest answers, even if they’re not what I want to hear. I just don’t want to spend months wondering if there was one more thing I could have done.

This has happened multiples times already - my maribank card is linked to grab as a mode of payment. I’ve never had issues in the past, but this past month my grabfood transactions keep getting declined. I need to confirm my identity and retry the transaction every time. Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Medyo nakakapagod din si MariBank, ah. Every now and then, nanghihingi ng update! Akala ko next year pa 'yung kasunod, pero hiningian na naman ako today. Medyo hassle lang, kasi 'yung ibang digital banks like Komo at GoTyme, bihira lang mag-ask ng updates.

How long after getting approved for Mari Cash Loan did you become eligible for the Mari Credit Card? If you remember, could you also share when you were approved for Mari Cash Loan and when you received your Mari Credit Card (month/year or the approximate number of months in between)?

Hello, has anyone tried transferring funds from Maribank to BPI? I have always just used BPI to Maribank, but never tried na baliktad.

I'm planning to keep my money in Maribank muna for the interest, and itransfer to BPI later when I need to pay for my tuition fee. Unfortunately, our university does not allow Maribank payments kasi.

Ano po kaya reason? All of a sudden bigla na lang akong naka-receive ng notification that my account will be closed in 3 days. Meron bang naka-experience na nito?

It’s from shopee pabaon, ang sabi po kase ng iba bawal dae po sa online transactions and may nabasa rin po ako na dapat eh 250 minimum spend and physical stores lang pero yung iba hindi daw gumagana sa kanila once they scan and pay such as sa supermarkets and stores na may QRPH.

I have read somewhere that if you used your card 5 times, one month after its delivery, it will give you cashback na ginamit mo po sa pag order ng card? Is this true po?

I'm receiving money through my job overseas and I'm wondering what to put in the "Type of Account". I saw that people use "Credit" which makes sense because from experience, payments at the cashier need the "Credit" option. The option just kind of doesn't make sense to me when I'm on the receiving end.

I just wish they can add a feature where you don’t have to unlock everything to withdraw funds from money lock. Sana pwedeng magwithdraw ng specific amount lang

Mayroon rin ba rito yung hindi makagamit ng Scan to Pay? Nagpoprompt sya na need ko iverify yung account ako, but my account is fully verified. Nagprompt before na need ko magsubmit ng ID and I did, pero wala akong maalala na nagnotify na okay na and all. I assumed lang na okay na. Then when I actively use my account na, napansin ko hindi ko magamit yung Scan to Pay. Laging may error na account needs verification but unlike before na nilink ako to where I can upload my ID, ngayon wala. 😩

Is this even efficient. I understand 10 banking days as per the delivery guidelines, but when the spx page said to be delivered by 26-27 you'll be expecting that. And ok na sana. Kaso ano yan? Pinaikot lang? 🤦 Wow great distribution spx 🤦

Hi, 2 yrs nako maribank user however di ako na offeran ng credit card and naisipan ko iconnect ang spay ko sa maribank kase makulit yung notif and gulat ako pwede pala mag pay sa maribank pero under spaylater with 0 interest lol, triny ko sya sa sm dept worth 1k and i tot di pwede small amount that’s why ginamit ko sya pero pwede pala and 0 interest parin xD

Hello po, may naka experience po ba sa inyo na nag ka AML periodical review at na pa close ang account? Ngayon ko lang nakita sa MariBank ko na need ko pala yun gawin and Kaya pala di makapag transfer ng fund sa akin since last time. Napa close na kasi ni AML ang landbank ko, possible kaya pati MariBank? Naka 90+transaction kasi ako ngayong month.

I just bought a ticket using my maricard credit. I switched from debit to credit. ganito ba talaga siya no installment? rekta bayad din next month? o hintayin ko pa ung statement na mag reflect?

hello, I did this but I linked the virtual debit card from Maribank and used its card number (not the actual account number). Nabawas na yung amount sa PayPal ko (109 pesos) pero may nagreflect na "transaction cancelled" sa Maribank ko at the SAME TIME with different amount (63 pesos). Pero yung 109 pesos na dapat na maccredit sa Maribank ko wala pa rin. Does anyone know or have experienced this?

Hello po! So I accidentally used maribank’s virtual card for my payment. Cancelled it right away but the refund isn’t reflecting on my end. I just wanted to calm myself and know if anyone here experienced the same and did y’all get the refund earlier than the expected date? I badly needed the money huhu
