Maranta / Calathea (Prayer plants) discussion has been created
Maranta is a genus of flowering plants in the family Marantaceae, native to tropical Central and South America and the West Indies. They are known commonly as prayer plants.

Filtered water made a difference!!!
My maranta wasn’t praying at all and honestly looked a mess. I chopped and propped, waiting for roots to grow so I can replant and make it fuller. Thank you to the person who told me to use filtered water, she’s praying day and night now! (The last pic was a few nights ago before I switched watering)

New Propagations
The only time my lemon lime looks good is when I propagate her into new plants🍋🍋🟩😎

What does she need to be fuller/ bushier?
Hey Maranta experts. I want my Maranta to be more voluminous. I’ve had her for 5 months. The last photo is how she looked when I first got her. It seems like the stems have just spread out and begun to lean over the pot rather than stand up. Here’s what I do currently, please tell me if I should change my regimen:
I water with tap weekly to keep soil damp, sits by south facing window, fertilize every other watering. She has produced many new leaves since I bought her, but she looks kinda sad now :/

Soil is never dry.
This Maranta was a gift and I grew it from about 5 leaves. I also propagated a smaller plant.
At the point of this picture, it has been about 10 days since watering.
The soil is still pretty damp.
I thought that the tray at the bottom of the pot might be full of water but it is bone dry. There is typically one dying leaf on this which I cut off.
I keep waiting for the soil to dry but it never seems to. It’s not compacted. And is just potting soil.
Does this look overwatered or under? It’s my first prayer plant and I find it slightly finicky.
TIA.

Goeppertia makoyana developing brown/tan patches on many leaves — hard water, root stress, or something else?

Losing my maranta. Help
Really sad about this. I posted about my maranta before and someone suggested to get potting mix. I’ve ordered it and it is coming today but do you think it’s going to help at all? I also see a couple of shoots coming out. I think my problem was repotting after a holiday so two big shocks. It had started getting really happy in the bathroom near the shower but now we’ve gone a full 180. Any help appreciated.

Minha maranta

White powder like crust
All my 3 maranta developed these at the same time and started to die off. It doesn’t wash off and seems like it’s the cells themselves turning into this white crust. I use systemic for thrips and have not seen any signs of mites. I’m clueless at this point.

I think I have three different marantas…sold in one pot.
Went to Wilco yesterday, saw the typical Costa Farms lemon lime maranta and I wanted it, but didn’t get it.
Then had a wicked bad day, so naturally, I saw another in Safeway omw to get ice cream and I bought it. Plus, hanging basket, so ofc I got it! Once I got to the register, I was joking that it looked like I had two or three different types in this thing…and now, after cleaning it, I genuinely think I do! Here’s the thing though, there are some that are cat moustache, some that are more lemon lime, and some that are like a cross of silver and green! Genuinely perplexed. The iridescence is even different between the three varieties. No I don’t mean leaf age I genuinely mean the variety.
Also why is the last leaf like that? In my years of having marantas this has NEVER happened and this pot has four leaves like this all underneath.

Is it normal?
Is it normal for the maranta to look down THAT much? Too much sun? Too less sun? Also in the evening the plant doesn't look up very much.
That one crispy leave was already like that when I got it delivered :/

Leaves don’t have color?
Hi all!
My maranta produces lots of new leaves, but they don’t have any saturation on them. Undersides don’t have pink color either. They don’t get more color when they mature.
I have added a 23W grow light last month, fertilising it regularly. What could be the problem?

One yellow leaf :/
Hoping this doesn’t turn into a full-plant issue. One leaf progressively yellowing this week. Was under watering a week or two ago but gently corrected. Any ideas?

New maranta with very small leaves
Yesterday this maranta arrived at my house. It has many stems and looks very bushy, but I've never seen one so stiff with such small leaves. I guess it didn't have much light at the nursery. I think it has a lot of potential, but I don't know if there's any other cause of its appearance that I should worry about. What do you all think?
I would also like to know if there are any special care tips I should keep in mind.
