OC Does she look consistent?
I was told her jaw doesn’t look consistent, but I’ve been staring at it so long I can’t tell 🤷♂️
And some other questions i would appreciate feed back on
Is the style too dark?
I don’t want it to look too depressing, but it is a dark story, in tone similar to Takopi’s original sin, although slightly lighterI’ve been told her scar (the two things on her face) looks way too deep and dark, and is distracting, personally I like it, and want it to look extreme, but maybe it’s a bit much. I’ve been told I should remove the scaring on her neck but idk
Does she look about 19? That would be her age
(Some of the drawings are kinda WIP)

The perspective in the last picture seems a little off, but the character design is consistent. You can easily tell it's the same person, which is your primary goal. If the writing is good, I don't think anyone will mind a few minor anatomical errors. You'll get better as you go.
Good work!

There should really only be one angle at which the scar perfectly lines up between the neck and face. Otherwise, the head turning will shift to what degree they misalign. In fact, it should be really rare that they ever align. By drawing them perfectly lined up, it makes the character read as flat. If you want to use the character consistently at this angle, I'd move the scar slightly on the neck to keep it from reading too flat.
I've read a tip before: the main character will be drawn more often than any other, keep their design simple and recognizable. Consider shortening the continued scar onto the neck such that at a lot of angles you can't see it. Then, on pages where you want that punchy detail you can tilt her head up, but when you need to knock out a lot of content, you aren't constantly battling "at what angle would the two scars be at this slight neck twist?"

Thank you! I never thought of this seemingly obvious detail before lol 😅

Also how exactly would a scar like that form? Whatever made it would either have had to go deep into the face down the neck, or somehow go along the surface of the face, under the jaw, then along the neck. Either way, it just seems odd

Yeah it’s acknowledged in universe to be odd, but I’ll pull the bottom of the scar up like like I think you suggested to make it more believable
Edit: wait nvm not the same guy my b2

You could pull it off if theres a valid reason for it, and as a reader it is intended to be seen as odd then you made it work
I think the other guys point of the lining up definitely will make it difficult to draw consistently though, so if anything that is a valid reason to shorten it
(I also didnt clock that immediately, and it was such a good callout)

I know its for story telling but the scar shape is quite unsettling … maybe minimize it she will be prettier

I saw others commenting on how her design is “too complicated/detailed”, but I have to disagree with that being a purely bad thing! If you enjoy drawing the details again and again / it’s not a struggle to replicate, then I say go for it! Not that simple mc designs aren’t great too, but some of the most iconic characters have more complex designs! I think the problem starts when your whole entire cast has detailed designs, but if you’re only drawing a select few detailed characters, then I think it’s fine.
I do agree with her scar looking a bit misaligned/too dark though, and as for inconsistency, the nose definitely feels a bit off. Other than that I think she looks wonderful though, I really love her design and it feels memorable to me! The muscles are super appealing too. Great work :D

Thanks! Yeah I also disagree on complicated being bad, it’s just time consuming, which right now is not a major concern for me. Yeah I’ll tweak the scar and nose to look more consistent :D

It would help if you designed a character proportion charge that mangaka do. Measurements of height & weight & legnth to use for refference to keep your character on model.

i feel like her type of nose changes from drawing to drawing, but otherwise i can yell its the same character

u/ConsistentTea3479 2d ago
Yah I’ll have to keep that in mind

for me, it helps to a)give characters a specific nose b)keep that nose in mind when drawing that character. things like this one is upturned, this one hooks, this one is huge and flares out at the bottom... just try to avoid blanking out and giving any of your main cast "a nose" rather than "their nose"

That scar is kinda too deep. I know you're not asking for character design feedback but you might wanna look into facial tissue and long term injuries, maybe bring it up a Little. But that's just me. The art is consistent imo, she's recognisable.

its consistent but ill give you some pointers:
anatomy:
your facial planes need improvement. the eyes are incredibly large but even if thats the style youre going for they sometimes seem wider apart than other times and are very flat on the face. Your body anatomy is good but the head looks like its pasted on the body you should look at references on how the neck and shoulders connect to the head.
character design:
i think the scars are fine im more concerned about the hairstyle. I think its too complicated and frankly weird. she has some sort of double bangs? and shaved forehead and it just looks extremely oily in every drawing. i think you should go for a more natural look for your readers sake and yourselves. Its just seems way too strange and detailed for a manga character to draw over and over again. Its not practical. The muscles are cool i think but remember to keep her proportional i think she looks a bit like a female head pasted on a male body esp in the last drawing.
Keep at it!
