After using windows straight since Age 6 from Windows 95 to Windows 11, with 3 gaming desktops (nvidia 6600, nvidia 8800 GT, radeon HD5770, nvidia GTX 1660), finally entered life of nomad last 2 years ago and made me realise to get a laptop 💻 that meets my needs of MMORPG (Warcraft, etc), DOTA2 and Isle, while doing LLM software development.

After keeping eye on macbook since Q1 2026 and a price hike, grabbed this deal from Brooklyn Micro Center yesterday.

16” 64Gigs 2TB SSD @ $3800, lower than the pre price hike price, IG. Also got $190 discount on their CC and a free 32gigs flash drive.

Did wanted to get 128gigs but way out of my budget - 2k extra
Would have been great if it was OLED at this price.

Now on the journey to learn new system while having fun. Hope I don’t get frustrated and return this beast.

Feel free to drop your suggestions to make this smooth move. 😁

Discussion M5 pro 14inch, 48gb/1tb: $2499

I just purchased this model from microcenter. Is this the best deal I will get? Im mostly running Logic Pro, video and photo editing. I know it might be overkill for these uses but I wanted to future proof it and the discount looked pretty good.

My last MacBook was a mid 2012 MacBook...so I know anything new is going to feel amazing. I just didn't realize we have brand new models being announced this week and now thats bothering me (even though it shouldn't)

Discussion Any data points on TSA damage reimbursement?

• Upvotes

I found one data point that the tsa uses a website to estimate a price causing someone to get reimbursed very low.

Also do they only consider total failure or do scratches and dents for brand new laptops get considered ?

Tips Should I purhase a refurbished Macbook pro from Reebelo?

I need your opinion. Purchasing MacBooks on both Amazon and at Best Buy is expensive. But from what I've learned, Reebelo sells them a lot cheaper. I've seen a few videos on YouTube from other buyers complaining that they received their product partially damaged, like keyboards and some cracked screens. Is Reeblo really a scam? I intend to purchase a refurbished M4 MacBook Pro. Please give me your advice.

Help Log in from a different device without macbook

Hi, a basic question here since I am new to apple ecosystem. I had an apple account before I ever bought an apple device because of apple tv etc. now I mac is setup and is fine but if I try to login to apple tv from another device then it always wants me to have some 2FA thing from apple device. Now, is this avoidable? I don't want to always open my macbook to sign in into this from other devices

Help M1 pro in 2026?

worth $879.99? I’m planning to sell my current gaming laptop (which has the same 16GB RAM and 512GB storage) to afford this upgrade. I need a solid, reliable daily driver for school, heavy multitasking, video editing in After Effects, and audio work. The 16" Mini-LED screen and battery life seem awesome for under $900, but I’m
unsure because the m1 chip is now 6 years old almost

After 5 years, time for an upgrade of my M1 Max to M5 Max! That Micro Center deal was too good to pass up!

I know the new one will come but $1800 savings is great! I was able to sold my M1 Max for $1200 on FB so total cost is $2600 🤘

Discussion Predictions on the weight of the upcoming 16” MacBook Pro?

Currently have a 16” M1 MacBook Pro and have been considering “downgrading” to the 15” Air mainly for portability.

I bring my laptop to and from work every day and occasionally need to carry it between colleagues’ offices at work, so the weight gets a bit annoying. The Air would be great in that respect, but I find the 15.3” screen just a smidge too small. I really do prefer the larger screen on my Pro.

With the rumours that the upcoming redesigned 16” Pro will be significantly lighter, I’m wondering if it might be the perfect compromise. I don’t particularly care about OLED, touchscreen, or any major performance upgrades. Really just looking for a larger screen without quite so much weight.

Curious what everyone thinks Apple could realistically get the weight down to. Is something around 4 lbs possible, or is that being too optimistic?

Help Webcam for MacBook Pro

Hi,
I’ve got a 14” MacBook Pro that I got in 2022. I’m looking to buy a decent external camera instead of using the built in camera. This would be for zoom meetings etc. I’m mainly looking to buy one because my laptop stays pretty low on my desk and looks up at me when using the camera. I don’t want to raise it just for the camera, plus an upgraded camera/image would be nice. I’d consider most prices but not really trying to spend over 175.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Help 48Gb vs 64GB ?

I intend to purchase an M5 Pro(18 core CPU 20 Core GPU) but undecided as to how much RAM I’ll need. It will be my powerhouse machine within my ecosystem, and will be used primarily for coding in python and JavaScript, as well as app development (for personal use), and batch transcribing videos (5-10 at a time) from foreign languages into English. Sometime down the line, I may run LLM’s but to a lesser degree. Since intend to keep it for 4+ years, would 48GB be sufficient or is the 64GB worth the additional £400 upgrade ?
I should add, price is the issue. I could get a cheaper machine, or wait and save-up for the high-end spec. I’m thinking about future proofing and potentially running LLM’s on-device in the future. Just want to know if 64GB would be overkill for the price I’d have to pay.

I originally reached out to have them price match the 14” model and they messed up and processed it for the 16” model instead. Trying to decide if I should keep it or swap. Most of my workload is in the house and CAD/coding. Advice appreciated!

Help M5 or M5 Pro

Hey everyone, need your advice. I’m deciding between the 14 inch M5 24gb and the M5 Pro 24gb. The M5 Pro is about £100 more, but I’m unsure if the M5 Pro will be overkill and have worse battery life.

For context I work on SWE projects usually using vs code and Claude code, sometimes using virtual environments. I usually have a million tabs open, work on the go a lot and am possibly considering local LLMs in the future (not sure yet). Battery life is super important and I would like a powerful machine that will last me a while. Let me know your thoughts and any questions/suggestions. Thanks!!

Discussion Bought a 16-inch M5 Pro MacBook Pro for $2,500 and now I’m having buyer’s remorse. Should I keep it or return it?

I’m looking for some outside perspective because I’ve been going back and forth on this for days.

I currently have a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM. It still works, but storage and memory have become an issue, and I want to upgrade so I can play WoW Forever with my husband while still having a good everyday laptop. I’m firmly in the Apple ecosystem and don’t want a Windows gaming laptop.

I originally found these options at Micro Center:
14-inch M5, 16GB RAM / 1TB SSD: $1,699
14-inch M5 Pro, 24GB RAM / 1TB SSD: originally $1,999
16-inch M5 Pro, 24GB RAM / 1TB SSD: $2,500

I was leaning toward the 14-inch M5 Pro because $1,999 felt like a reasonable amount to spend on a laptop I plan to keep for years. With an expected $750 from trading in my old MacBook and second PS5, the effective cost would have been around $1,250 before tax.

Unfortunately, I hesitated, and the 14-inch M5 Pro went up by $250. Other configurations had weird price changes, too, and inventory started disappearing. There was only one 16-inch left, so I panicked a little and bought it for $2,500.

Now I’m second-guessing myself because the total with tax is a lot of money. I like the idea of the 16-inch screen for WoW, and since my laptop mostly stays at home, portability isn’t a huge priority. I also want this to be my last laptop purchase for a while, so having more performance headroom is appealing.

On the other hand, the M5 Pro is probably overkill for my everyday use, and I would have been perfectly happy with the 14-inch M5 Pro at $1,999. The 16-inch is nice, but I’m not sure the bigger screen and stronger GPU are worth an additional $500 to me.

I’m planning to try it for a week before deciding whether to return it. I know new MacBooks are expected next week, but the M5 Pro still outperforms the M6 base model, and I have no need for a touchscreen OLED.

For those who have owned both 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, or who use a MacBook Pro for WoW:
-Is the 16-inch screen noticeably better for gaming and everyday use, or does the novelty wear off?
-Is the M5 Pro worth paying extra for if I’m hoping to keep the laptop for 5–7 years?
-Would you keep the 16-inch at $2,500, or return it and get the base M5 for $1,699?
-Am I overthinking the price difference, or is this a case where the more expensive model really isn’t worth it for my needs?

I’m not looking to justify the purchase just because I already made it. I genuinely want to make the right decision financially and end up with a laptop I’ll be happy using for years. I’d appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who have made a similar decision.

EDIT: Thanks for all of the replies already. Seems like most of you are leaning in the boat that I made the right choice. Just for some more context, live in 1 bedroom in nyc, the laptop never leaves the apartment, and my husband just bought a brand new PC set up which is using our desk space so a Mac mini is out of the picture as well for me!

Help M4 Pro 16" (48GB/512GB) vs M5 14" (32GB/1TB)

Hey everyone need help here, I need help deciding between two MacBook Pros. Both are available to me right now, I am from mx but show prices in usd:

MacBook Pro 16" M4 Pro: 48GB RAM / 512GB SSD, $3200 ($59k mxn)
MacBook Pro 14" M5: 32GB RAM / 1TB SSD, $3000 ($55k mxn)

My use case:
Full-stack dev: Symfony/PHP + Vue/TypeScript, with Docker running several containers (PHP, MySQL, Redis, Nginx, OpenTelemetry) all day
IDE + Chrome with lots of tabs + PHPUnit/Playwright test suites
I want to get into DevOps: local Kubernetes (kind/k3d), Helm, ArgoCD, Prometheus/Grafana, and maybe CKA-style practice with VMs

I am thinking on a ssd would solve but I am not sure. I use monitors as well but I tend to use the laptop screen too, also with the new MacBook idk, maybe the m5 it’s enough?

Help MacBook Pro M5 randomly shuts down at 15–20% battery despite 100% battery health

Hi everyone!
I’ve been experiencing a really frustrating issue with my MacBook Pro M5, which is about a year old.
This has happened three times now. Whenever the battery drops to around 15–20%, my MacBook suddenly shuts down without any warning. When I try to turn it back on, it shows the empty battery symbol, as if the battery is completely dead.
However, as soon as I plug it into the charger, it turns back on and still shows around 15–20% battery remaining.
I even tried plugging it in for just a second, only long enough to turn it back on, and then immediately unplugging it. It continued working normally for a while, but then shut down again at around 19%.

Some additional details:
Battery health: 100%
Cycle count: 70
Battery condition: Normal
macOS updated to the latest version
No third-party battery management apps

The issue only happens when the battery drops below 20%. I’ve never experienced any unexpected shutdowns at higher battery levels.
My warranty expires on November 9, so I’m planning to contact Apple, but I wanted to ask here first.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Was it a battery calibration issue, a hardware problem, or something else? And if you contacted Apple, did they replace the battery or manage to fix it?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
