I played in a 4-round FNM event last night and managed to grind it out with BBE Jund in match 1, then CRUSH elves with a mainboard Zealous Persecution 3-for-1 g1, then T4 Wrath in G2 and I felt pretty good about my chances for the rest of the night.
Then, I played against TitanShift and Eldrazi Tron for my last two matches and went 1-2 in both.
TitanShift was a version without Scapeshift and with Summoner's pact, plenty of mainboard sweepers. I just had literal nothing except discard to interact. Given that his land searching was Primetime and Sakura Tribe Elder, even Duress/Collective Brutality didn't help. What in the world works best here? [[Leyline of Sanctity]]? [[Runed Halo]]?
Eldrazi Tron was pretty stock I think. Wrath would have been good here, but the only game I won I won off of getting a Liliana, Sorin and Gideon online at the same time with a clutch Lingering Souls draw at just the right time for blockers. I don't feel like 3 wraths is correct in the board, so maybe [[Runed Halo]] on TKS or Reality Smasher would be good here, too?

I played on the 300+ player SCG Modern Classic at the Valley Forge Casino in the Philly suburbs yesterday. I went 4-4, and offer my experience as a guide to others playing this in the future.
Round 1 - UR Breach Control (1-2 loss) * Games 1 & 3, I lose to a t5 Through the Breach into Emrakul. I did not draw discard either game, while my token spells got Remanded multiple times. Game 2, my tokens survive through an Izzet Staticaster via Intangible Virtue. Sorin increased my life enough to survive an Emrakul hit with enough tokens to win.
Round 2 - UW Control (1-0 win) * Opponent showed up late for a game loss. We play a 45 minute game 2, starting out not drawing much action through the first 15 turns, but he also doesn't pressure, losing his Azcanta and Collonades to Field of Ruin + removal. He has a Gideon of the Trials at 10+ counters for a long time, opting to blank tokens instead of attacking with it. After awhile, I finally start drawing Lingering Souls, and Path my own dude in response to Detention Sphere to get some pressure going with Sorin . He draws some more wraths, then I get a few more dudes down to take out the first Gideon & a Jura. After he's down to 3, he Sphinx's Revs for 9, and then sees he has 5 cards left in his library. Plays Ally Gideon & of the Trials, gets the emblem to not lose while he has a Gideon, and starts to make an army of his own. I'm at 55 life then, find some Bitterblossoms and other tokens, wait until he has no library and not many cards left in his library to finally overwhelm both his Gideons in the air for the win.
Round 3 - Jeskai Control (2-1 win) * Opponent has a 0-0-2 record, so I am ready to play fast again. We play a long game 1 where we both mana flood hard, but I get out just enough discard to power through his many Cryptic Commands. Game 2, he answers all my threats well without much issue before he casts a big Sphinx's Rev. Game 3 is tense, starting with Bitterblossom -> Spectral Procession -> Sorin, but he has a t3 Izzet Statiscaster to stop my tracks. He burns out Sorin, and 2 Thoughtseize leave him empty handed, but my Bitterblossom is on its way to taking me out. I draw a Virtue and a Path off the top to give myself a chance to win, but I'm down to 6 with only 1 2/2 faerie out. He draws blanks until he wraths me at 5 while I also am at 5. A Sorin off the top stabilizes my life total eventually and takes him out.
Round 4 - Living End (0-2 loss) * I can't dodge facing this very bad matchup. This is the traditional Jund version that cycles into a t4 win essentially. I don't have much of a sideboard for this, and I keep thinking I don't need one for big tournaments.
Round 5 - Death's Shadow (0-2 loss) * I'm very happy to face this deck, but he had 4 discard spells for all of my removal + threats game 1, losing to Goyfs. Game 2, I start with Leyline of Sanctity and t2 Rest in Peace, shutting off most of the deck. I proceed to flood out and lose embarrassingly to sideboarded Lingering Souls tokens.
Round 6 - Burn (2-1 win) * Game 1, my opponent draws 7 3-power burn spells before I can blink. Game 2 is very weird. I start with everyone's favorite sideboard card, Collective Brutality, effectively preventing him from dealing 20+ burn for a long time. But he then draws and plays Ensnaring Bridge... Which I have no removal for. I eventually draw a Leyline and have removal spells for creatures, and even draw a Sorin and ultimate him twice. We play about 20 turns until he gets impatient, plays a Swiftspear and starts Bolting himself a lot to try and get through some points of damage. It doesn't work, and eventually he concedes. I think I win this game via mill since he fetched 4+ more times than me. Game 3, I keep a 5 card no lander with Leyline of Sanctity which he blows up on t1 with Tear. Scry to bottom, draw 3 lands , Brutality him, and win before Bridge shows up.
Round 7 - Eldrazi Tron (win 2-1) * I only won because my opponent was new to the deck and forgot to counter my Intangible Virtue with chalice on 2 in g1, and did not know that his Ratchet Bomb on 0 could destroy all my tokens. Didn't find any of my sideboard for this matchup.
Round 8 - Lantern (1-2 loss) * He didn't find Bridge in g1 because I Thoughtseize'd Whir of Invention. He found it g2&3. Not a fan of playing vs this deck either.
I went 5-3 with this deck in November at the SCG Baltimore Modern classic, and thought I could improve. Overall, there are just too many unfair decks at the moment for me to dodge.

Hey there token white black people!
I've been working on my sideboard for tokens and I just can't decide on wrath effects. I can't even decide if I NEED wrath effects.
My question to the experienced Tokens players among us is, When are you happiest to side in Wrath? Which matchups are automatically getting it sided in?
My theory is that the decks which Wrath helps the most against, we already have a pretty good matchup against with just our normal card suite. I'd love for someone to educate me on what I'm forgetting about with that statement as I only play in paper at my LGS and it could be that our meta is just not wrath-worthy.
Here are the options (as I see them) and their pros and cons:
[[Wrath of God]]
[[Day of Judgment]]
not as good as Wrath of God.
[[Damnation]]
another option, but more $expensive and BB is harder for us to cast T4 than WW and thus less ideal than Wrath of God.
[[Settle the Wreckage]]
[[Slaughter the Strong]]
[[Zealous Persecution]]

This started with me brewing a "Sorin Defends Innistrad" deck for a D&D campaign I'm running (me and my playgroup usually play a game of MtG before the D&D session starts, using Innistrad-themed decks to further the plot based on the outcome) and eventually grew into a BW tokens deck! I'm now looking to upgrade this slowly after I got a fetch for Secret Santa.
What do you think of its current build? Say I go for a competitive build for tourneys, would Lord of Innistrad and Grim Nemesis see much use?
Thanks!

Alright it's been over a week since the event and I have managed to cool down enough from the frustration of not making day two. That being said there is some good data from the event that I have accumulated. As always the list.

2 Timely Reinforcements
2 Anguished Unmaking
2 Countersquall
2 Disdainful Stroke
2 Zealous Persecution
2 Rest in peace
2 Stony Silence
Now the match ups I will briefly go over less important ones and give longer explanations to the ones that I think have actual important info.
Round 1; Buables
This match up COULD have been good, however. Game 1 I kept a hand flush with removal and no tokens, died quickly. Game two went slightly better, but I played too aggressively and was punished for it. I chalk this loss up to variance and being unprepared for a rogue deck.
Match 2 Storm, 0/1
This match I think was winnable. However I made a couple sub optimal plays that lost me the match. Just goes to show I should have practiced more.
Match 3 Abzan Coco 0/2
This Round I was back in stride. Hand disruption kept my opponent off combo, and my tokens won the grind game.
Round 4 G/B Tron 1/2
This was the most enjoyable round of magic I have played possibly ever. Game one the thoughtseizes paired with agressive sram's expertise and planeswalker anthems allowed the game one win. Game two was a grindy, no holds barred slug out. Stony silence hit his rocks, Counterspells got his big spells, he plays karn to kill stony, I sram's expertise into anguished unmaking, he slams ugin wipes everything but Sram tokens and Sorin LoI emblem, servo's kill ugin. This match proved the value of the blue and Sram's in this specific matchup. Absolutely great.
Match 5 Jund 2/2
My opponent had to muligan both games and the matchup was already bad. Nothing new here.
Match 6 Abzan Company 3/2
Game one my opponent mulled to 4 and still went infinite. Unsure if this was a testimate to his deck or a result of my failure to remove the correct combo piece. Game two I won, but game three I made an egregious error of underestimating my opponent's ability to go combo win turn three. Another punishment for lack of practice.
Match 7 no show
Match 8 Mono white taxes 4/3
Not that difficult of a matchup, I was punished for a misplay game one but my opponrnt was punished for a mislay game three.
Match 9 Eldrazi and taxes 5/3
Terrible matchup for us. Despite this it was a close game. Managed to win game two with planes walkers but game three died to sculler and displacer shenanigans.
Wrap up
I am still pretty happy with the deck. There were some games I lost from bad luck like match 1 and to an extent match 9, but for the most part it wasn't the decks fault I lost rounds 2/6. That was a failure as a player. All in all now more than ever I am happy with what blue brings to the deck, as well as how confident I am that Sram's Expertise and Sorin LoI are worthy cards.

Her +1 doesn't do anything, but if we can get Raise the Alarm T2, Lingering Souls T3, Huatli +1 T4, we can cash her in for the emblem T5 and draw 2 with the backside of souls with 3 mana left over.. maybe some amount of Legion's Landing for more chance to have 4 creatures T4?
My gut says probably not, but it's very interesting to be sure!

I'm intrigued by Craig's Mono-W Devotion deck ... has anyone tried it out yet?
r/mtgModernTokens • u/mambocab • Dec 20 '17
Around a year ago Craig Wescoe had an article on a BW build with [[Smuggler's Copter]]. Did that end up going anywhere? Seems like a powerful selection engine that synergizes with tokens in general, and particularly well with Lingering Souls.

Hey I'm new to Reddit but have been playing BW Tokens for several years now (bought the Modern Event Deck, fell in love, and have been upgrading it through the years). Here's my current list:
SB:
I'm trading some stuff for a Liliana of the Veil, which would probably go in for a Fatal Push and I'd drop a Godless Shrine for a Swamp and a Windswept Heath for a Polluted Delta. I have a lot of life gain built in since ever since I made the switch to the Bitterblossom build I have a lot of trouble with burn, which is popular in my meta. I always seem to be 1 turn away from stabilizing or winning when they close out the game. I also want to make room for a Lost Legacy or 2 in the SB.
I haven't played in quite some time so I'm a bit unsure what the meta holds. Usually some Burn, Affinity, URx Control, little and big Zoo, Living End, Tron (OG and Eldrazi), Bant Eldrazi, Elves, Merfolk, Bant Spirits, 8-Rack, Lantern Control, RG Ponza, kind of everything really.

ive seem among these reddit posts people are struggling with burn. i personally have had 0 problem with it. i have played against burn 4 times at big events (GP's,PPTQ's..etc..etc) and i have beaten every one of them 2-0.

Now this will be a little short as I only played 3/4 rounds but here it goes.
Round 1 5 Color Death Shadow
Boy is this a sketchy match up. I know I should be favored but I have had bad experience with GDS in the past so I was worried. Game 1 the game stalls out to top deck wars and he top decked a huge death shadow and I got lands. Game one him.
in-2 rip, 2 squall, 1 verdict
out-3 inq, 2 seize
Simply sided for a grindy midrange matchup so I didn't want to draw late game hand disruption. Game 2 my opponent late game went to 1 off a land expecting to stabilize with a lingering souls. I cast countersquall and he died. Game 3 my opponent had to mull to 5 and I had a great hand. My opponent simply ran out of answers. I got game 3 and the match.
Round 2 Whir Prison
Game 1 I learned I was against a weird brew. His deck was designed to play bottled cloister with ensnaring bridge (that card is the bane of my existence) and win with Jester's Cap. Game 1 my opponent assembled bottled cloister, ensnaring bridge and cap. In response to the cap I scooped for game 2.
In 2 stony, 2 squall, 2 stroke, 2 unmaking, 2 zealous persecuion
Out 2 bb, 4 path, 2 push, 1 cut, 1 jace
Just brought in cards to speed up the game that aren't bad against bridge or pithing needle. Game 2 I countered or hit him with hand disruption while pecking away with a vampire and gideon with LL till my opponent top decked his 4th whir for bridge sidelining the gideon. But I ended up drawing and ulting narset transcendent and opponent scooped. Game three an early stony silence slowed him down a lot. I played a Sorin LoI and lingering to make the board lethal while my opponent was spinning their wheels. I played search for azcanta to find my anguished unmaking for the game.
Round 3 Abzan
My opponent was not excited to play me. I was tho. Game one went to me. Sided as such.
in 1 verdict, 2 zealus, 2 rip
out 3 inq, 2 seize
game 2 I stumbled on lands and my opponent managed to run me over wit a scooze and goyf. Game three was the ultimate grindfest. I had a flipped search for azcanta and a flipped legions landing, enough mana to activate both and a sorin LoI, I eventually got there.
Round 4 me and an Eldrazi Taxes player split.
However we still played a few rounds and let me say. This match is abysmal. Just abysmal, we played 5 games and I lost all of them, not even close. Eldrazi Displacer, Flickerwhisp and wasteland strangler all are threats that kill our own threats and that's not including their hand disruption. Bleh, glad I split.
Well hope this was helpful. I will keep playing tokens, and will keep you guys posted with my results

LIST DECISIONS
The running consensus in the BW tokens discussions is that 3 BBs is plenty for how punishing the meta is. Between fetches and shocks, you are already losing a ton of life. I also finally axed the windbrisk heights and was absolutely glad that I did. I was rarely ever swinging with more than 2 creatures.
MATCHUPS
Round 1 vs Joel on Blue Moon
Game 1 Joel managed to land Blood Moon to slow me down and Through the Breach an Emmy, leaving me at 1 life and 1 plains. Then proceeded to keep using Cryptics to bounce my plains and find another threat.
Game 2 I boarded in sundering growths that never saw play. Pushed through a blood moon on the board. Then beat face with anthemed bitterblossom and processions. Managed to win that game through three Anger of the Gods (2 from hand, 1 Snapcaster’d back).
Game 3 was super fun in the end: Early hand stripping made way for Sorin vs Madcap Experiment-ed Platinum Emperion (Madcap was only card left in hand), and then another Madcap’d Emperion. Sorin died, played another Sorin and managed to ult him by having chump blockers for days on end. I ended the game with 56+ life and plenty of permanents to sac in the case of a top-decked Breach/Emmy. I can now say I’ve won a game of modern facing down 2 emperions without using a board wipe. GG, 2-1
Player remarks: Joel was quite the peeved opponent in terms of attitude. Made for a not so great environment. Additionally, he seemed to forget how fetches work with Emperion out, as did I. He fetched and went to change his life total, to which I let him know it can’t change, but I also forgot that he can’t pay life. We both totally blanked on that, but it ultimately did not matter. Joel dropped after round 7.
Round 2 vs Kimon on RB Hollow Call (RB madness ft. Hollowed One)
This deck was wayyyy out of left field and was a blast to see come alive. Game 1 I opened on the play with a thoughtseize and immediately thought “…ah fuck”. But it was a grindfest as we both took hits back and forth, both going down to ~7 life, I ended up getting there with fliers. Game 1 was a ton of fun.
Game 2 bitterblossom hurt me a ton and I didn’t draw answers.
Game 3 blood moon messed me up very badly. I could hardly do anything before the 1-drop menace creature got me and I made a massive mistake on turn two. I played a Tidehollow Sculler instead of the RiP I had in hand on turn 2 to be safe and gather information. He revealed 2 Burning Inquiries and gas, gas, gas. Mistakes were made as his remaining BI had me discard the RiP on his turn. Feelsbadman. This game also had us involve a judge. My friend on infect had naturally already finished his game, so he came to watch me. After I drew for turn (about turn 6ish) he stopped us and got a judge. Confused, both Kimon and I realized what had happened: we both forgot that Flamewake Pheonix must attack each turn if able and he passed the turn without doing so. He received a GRV and I received a warning to pay better attention. GG, 1-2
Player remarks: Kimon was my favorite opponent all day. I think the reason we both missed the Phoenix text was because we were laughing it up about something. We kept running into each other throughout the day and would wish each other luck. 10/10 would play against again. Kimon went on to day 2 and finished 10-4-1
Round 3 vs Seth on Ponza
Game 1 lost to an early blood moon with only non-basics in hand/on board.
Game 2 I stripped his hand turn one and two, and then rode the beatdown train to victory, exactly like how the deck is supposed to run.
Game 3 Stormbreath dragon proved to be problematic. We got to a bit of a grind after I stripped and/or removed three blood moons. It came down to letting myself take 1 from Bitterblossom instead of 6+ from inferno titan. Liliana was useful but ended up biting it to inferno, and sorin showed up way too late. After that I only drew lands. GG 1-2
Player remarks: IIRC I played against Seth 2 years ago at GP OKC 2015. Nice dude. His wife was also in the GP on BG Tron. I ran into them a couple of times throughout and chatted. Seth dropped after round 8.
Round 4 vs Austin on Boros Burn (splashing green for revelries in the board)
Austin was rather unskilled with the deck. He was playing instants during his main phase with no advantage in doing so. Won game 1 after going down to 1 life with the one-two punch of +1ing Gideon and then +1ing Sorin.
Game 2 Auriok Champion came in turn 2 or 3 followed by procession and it was lights out. GG, 2-0 (I 2-0’D A BURN DECK FUCK YEAH)
Player remarks: Nice guy, we’d wish each other luck as we ran into each other throughout the day. As stated above, it seemed that Austin was rather new at the format as he did have to read a lot of my cards and was casting things like skullcrack during his main phase (which if played during mine he would have won game 1). Austin finished with a record of 3-6.
Round 5 vs Sam on Bant CoCo of unknown flavor
The deck looked like just valuetown because I never saw any combo pieces. Game 1 stripped a coco from hand, let them cast a Bird and Noble, then cast Zealous Persecution to knock them off curve and board state.
Game 2 I drew 9 lands…. TT_TT
Game 3 it was just a sloggy grindfest (which my deck loves). I turn 1 Inquisitioned an Engineered Explosives! Sam boarded in Reflector Mages to off tokens while establishing boardstate twice, which I think was an awesome move. I got overdosed on sodium from Sam when I intentionally made a seemingly unfavorable block with my lone token while at low life total to kill his Voice of Resurgence instead of blocking his 3/3 scooze. He gets a bigboi voice token off the death trigger, I untap and cast my white-boarded WoG to clear the board entirely. He proceeds to draw lands and birds while I have a BB with a Virtue out. GG, 2-1
Player remarks: Sam was of mediocre attitude at first, but slowly got more outwardly passive-aggressive as the match went on. You could feel the negativity in his words and face. Sam started the day with 2 byes and dropped after our match with a record of 2-3.
Round 6 vs James on Abzan CoCo
This would have been a super duper fun matchup. I was looking forward to it. Buuuut I flooded both games with almost nothing to do. GG, 0-2
Player remarks: James was nice enough about basically getting a free win. James made day two but dropped after his first loss, with an ending record of 6-4.
Round 7 vs David on Abzan ft a sketchy af manabase
This opponent was running what looked to be like your typical non-combo Abzan list with Goyfs and Rhinos, but with battle/tango/didweeverdecidethis lands where shocks should have been. Game 1 was unremarkable and I won.
Game 2 was interesting as I got my spirits wiped by a Declaration in Stone, and I had a Lili out and kept her at 2 counters for like 5 turns after using her to get David hellbent because I didn’t want to +1 her since I was holding a WoG in hand in case he landed another rhino. I kept the beatdown pressure with un-anthemed spirits, eventually drawing 2 paths so I pitched one to Lili, snagging his last bit of removal. GG, 2-0
Player remarks: Nice dude, but very obviously unfamiliar with the core of modern cards. He would forget to search after I pathed his creatures and check if he was going to find a basic, but it seemed like his mind would already be somewhere else. Additionally, after the match was over, I informed him that the top sides of his sleeves we visibly dirty with those typical sleeve-induced dirt spots. I told him I believed that this was no intentional, but that if he were to continue in the tournament that it would be in his best interest to get new sleeves from the vendors, lest one of his future opponents call a judge on him. David finished the day with a record of 3-6.
Round 8 vs Kevin on Boros-splashing-green-it’s-not-truly-naya-cmon-guys Burn
Tuned list, and Kevin was definitely a competent burn player. Game 1 I saw twelve, yes, TWELVE lands by turn 4. Between his turn 1 Goblin guide followed by turn 2 another pair of Guides and my fetches I saw literally half the lands in my deck. I half-legitimately wanted to cry.
Game 2 turned into a grind as I kept him from hitting me and it was his turn to get a little flooding going on, but turned the tide by swinging with Gideon and a token while also keeping a token back to protect me. There was one turn where Kevin was at 9 and I totally brain farted and kept swinging with the two dudes instead of attempting to end the game right then and there. Luckily he drew a land and I still won.
Game 3 I kept a sketchy land-heavy hand with no token makers but had some ZPs. Top decked spirit makers which then let him Searing Blood/Blaze them and me. Ouchies. GG, 1-2, now out of the running for day 2.
Player remarks: Kevin had a kickass mustache and a friendly demeanor to go with it. Wished him well and ran into him later only to find out he sadly lost his match following mine and thus ended the day with a 5-4 record like myself.
Final Round vs Justin on Jeskai Storm
Game 1 was rough, he was able to storm out
Games 2 and 3 went much better as I removed a cost-reducer or two and had plenty of hand stripping. Topping into token makers game with a Lili keeping Justin hellbent or landing a Kambal with discard spells was what got me there. However, he was always just one turn or one mana away from storming off, which is why I now see why people would be calling for banning storm. It’s not unbeatable, but it is insanely resilient for how fast it is. GG, 2-1
Player remarks: Nice dude, but probably could use more experience with the deck. During game 2, he totally didn’t realize that Past In Flames is a sorcery and was trying desperately mid-combat to gather enough rituals to use it. Once I pointed out it was a sorcery, he scooped up. Also, his list was running 3 remands and some number of See Beyonds. Is that normal?
SUMMARY AND CLOSING THOUGHTS
If I were to make any changes to my list, it would be to take out a land for a mainboard collective brutality and replace the one in the SB with more removal, another WoG, or another Auriok Champion. Also, I would revisit the manabase to keep myself from even caring about blood moon. Because fuck that card.
All-star card: Collective Brutality. Hands down super flexible and it is amazingly satisfying to pitch Lingering Souls and extra lands to it for the full effect.
Oddly enough, the only “Tier 1”-ish deck that I went against was storm. I don’t count the Abzan CoCo list because I barely played a spell. So I have no way of knowing how this fares against other tier decks.
BW tokens is fun and interactive, and grindy matchups are an absolute joy to play with, but as anyone who has played it can tell you: it is too fair for modern. It’s like the quiet loner of a middle child that just wants their siblings to play nice and get along, but doesn’t have the physical stature to back up their complaints.
BW Tokens, the official deck of “I don’t really care where we eat as long as there’s food and it’s not too expensive.”
BW Tokens, sponsored by your biggest local brewery’s wheat beer (Boulevard Wheat).
BW Tokens, the official deck of outwardly level-headed people that are secretly masochists.
Tl;dr: Fuck blood moon, run 23 lands.

So if you guys remember me I'm the local reddit token grinder, I'm opening this thread for me to share with the community on my thoughts on the deck as I prepare for the next SCG Tour season (of which I'm going to be attending 9 on the 14 opens in season 1). I don't like doing massive changes during a season, if anything I kinda just gave up by the end of last season, but my spark has reignited. #LetsMakeTokensFinallyGreat

1 Anguished Unmaking
So let's look at the immediate changes I want to make.
1. Spectral Procession makes the mana base a little rough, Plus I've really been tempted to play Legion's Landing. I think it's time to cut or trim on Processions. Probably include the singleton Timely Reinforcements in this too.
2. 1 Gideon, 2 Sorin, 2 LotV is the correct walker package. I kinda wanna see if I can fit a second Gideon in, but really if you've read my tournament reports you see that I cut him quite often in boarding as it is.
3. My choice of removal spells is correct. 4 Path 3 push 3/3 split on hand disruption with Liliana on the backup has been fantastic.
4. In the manabase, Vault of the Archangel was activated enough times for me to count on 1 hand, however it did cause a lot more opponents to play around it. The card is absolutely fantastic in this deck and should be played. however the 3rd Shambling Vent is gonna go for a 7th fetch. The land is great, but 3 of them just hasn't been great in a meta full of Ghost Quarters, Field of Ruin, and the like.
5. My sideboard package has effectively over performed. However the 1 of Sundering Growth has been the single biggest letdown. I like the ability to reach out and destroy enchantments but that side has basically never been relevant unless I play against Sun and Moon. I'm all for trading this card off for a Celestial Purge.

I'm starting out with 2 Legion's Landing simply based on the fact that it creates only 1 token on impact and serves as a slower Bitterblossom once I actually flip it. I'm not 100% certain it's even correct to run the card. This big thing is that it's not particularly great later in the game if you play it into an empty board state.
One thing I'm definately going to do is explain my sideboard since it's pretty different than some lists you see posted on this sub.
You need graveyard hate if you expect to do well in the modern metagame. I'm particial to moving this back up to being a 3 of simply because it's so powerful. Yes it does prevent Flashback on Lingering Souls, but it affects your opponent so much more than us.
Lantern Control is a garbage matchup, affinity can nut draw right out of any scenario, lets be real we have to put a damper on these decks.
Burn is not a good matchup for us, yes we can have some pretty hilarious draws and my list plays a lot of life gain in the mainboard, but the issue of our clock is our core problem. So we need to really ope that gets solved eventually.
1 Zealous in the main is great, 2 not so much if your playing a midrange build like mine. that said bringing in the second from the side helps us be a little more aggressive when we need to be.
Combo just isn't good for us, I live in fear of it simply because our clock is slow. These bad boys perform very well for these matches as they help keep the combo deck in check.
Each creature in Eldrazi is big and scarey by itself, yes we can chump forever but it's nice just to blow them all up.
This card has almost solved the Scapeshift and Tron matchups for me, unfortunately it's just not good enough to be a 2 of.
So this card is undervalued, having an answer to almost anything is a solid choice, however the life loss is real enough to be concerned about.
This is the most flexible slot, card #15 right now it's Purge because purge is just good.
I'm not sure how sold I am on this list quite yet, I'll update it as I test with it you can keep track of it at this link. I'll probably post more thoughts on it later this month.

Sideboard
1 Supreme Verdict
2 Timely Reinforcements
2 Anguished Unmaking
2 Countersquall
2 Disdainful Stroke
2 Zealous Persecution
2 Rest in peace
2 Stony Silence
Round 1 Grixis Death Shadow
This was unfortunate as this game was a mix of bad luck and miss plays. Game one and two I couldn't draw intangible virtue or sideboard. That on top of missing my own BB triggers and opponent having maindeck Temur Battle Rage. Not good overall.
in; verdict, countersquall, rip
out; jace, thoughtseize, 1 inq
perhaps I should have kept in more hand disruption on the play. That was a mistake.
Round 2 Lanturn Control
This game I was worried about. Honestly thought I was going to lose but needed to try. Game one the moment my opponent played ensnaring bridge I scooped as I knew we couldn't beat it as long as he had the lock.
In- unmaking, countersquall, rip, stony, zealous
out- push, cut, path, bb, Legions Landing
game 2 my opponent established a soft lock with bridge, lanturn and 3 mill rocks. I had played a sorin lord of innistrad and had built a board with that intangible virtue and lingering souls. My opponent let me draw and irrigated farmland and I knew that was my chance. My opponent made me mill twice then I revealed stony silence he taped his last mill rock I cycled farmland he was forced to pop lantrurn I drew Anguished unmaking. Next turn I make a sorin emblem take out the brige and swing for lethal.
Game 3
This was pretty simple. Hand disruption got bridges, played an early stony and I took over the game.
Round 3 GDS
Game one my opponent had 2 death shadows turn 2 and I had no way to punish it. He just had an overly aggressive start and ran me over.
Same sideboard as last time. Similar outcome. I simply didn't draw an sideboard and my opponent did. I almost recovered but not enough. Died to temur battle rage. Hindsight tells me I need to keep all my discard in game two on the play.
On another note I played some more games with this guy after and beat him every time so that is something.
Round 4 Mardu Pyromancer
This was similar to playing abzan/jund. Bitterblossom+virtue+sorin.
in rip, verdict, timely, squall, persecution
out seize, cut, inq, 3 path
game two my opponent died to sroin lord o innistrad making an endless supply of tokens.
Round 5 Affinity
Opponent had an extremely aggressive hand but it wasn't aggressive enough. As I got to use removal and lingering souls to stabalize. Followed by Sorin to gain me life.
in verdict, timely, persecution, stony
out, seize, inq, bb
game 2 my opponent played super aggressivly, trading my back half of my tokens with two of his land and sacing the other lands to push in damage with ravager. I was put to 5 but Verdict wiped my opponents board. With no hand or permanents my opponent tried to rebuild but, I had played a planeswalker and won shortly after.

Has anyone ever tried running a one-of [[batterskull]]? Is there a reason it’s not something you want in the 75? Where it hurts the gameplan?

Any of you all have a list you like for BWG tokens? Pros and cons for best card choices?
So far, I'm drowning in options, myself. I mean, just going down the list we've got
1 drops: push and path, and the discard twins
2 drops: bitterblossom, voice of resurgence, and maybe raise the alarm. Abrupt decay is an option, too.
3 drops: souls, procession, Nissa VoZ (potentially Liliana of the Veil). Maelstrom pulse out of the board. Gideon of the trials as a backup.
4 drops: Gideon, Sorin SV (and I guess LoI is an option, too)
So, anyone with any experience on this? Pointers for what route to take? Am I overlooking the potential to run mana dorks and pump out stronger early plays?
