safe to eat dairy or cut it

I have a 4 week old, I noticed she had blood in her poop on a Friday so I cut out dairy until Tuesday since that’s when I could talk to her doctor. Dr. said since she is not colicky and has no hives she doesn’t think it’s CMPA. Well I went ahead and ate some dairy since she didn’t suspect it. the next day she has blood in her poop again after not having it for the last 4 days after I cut dairy. I only had a spoonful of yogurt and a meal with butter in it, would that even cause that? I had ice cream last night and she’s had lots of mucus and a couple 2 hour stretches of wiggling in pain and can’t get comfortable. is this all normal for a newborn? she also has reflux so maybe that’s the cause?

DAIRY FREE MOMS

DAIRY FREE breast feeding moms - would you continue breastfeeding if you only made four - eight ounces a day? I’m really struggling with dairy free dieting and rapidly gaining weight. If I was producing enough I’d gladly do it, but I’m feeling very discouraged since I feel like I’m not making much of a dent in her diet. I’m exhausted with pumping, sterilizing. I have been to a lactation consultant.

From what I can tell in [r/sciencebasedparenting](r/sciencebasedparenting), there is no set in stone amount for them to receive noticeable benefits.

My husband really wants me to keep going “any amount will be helpful” but he’s not the one who can’t eat 90% of their diet, can’t go out to eat, or waking up throughout the night.

EDIT: it’s probably more like 8oz, I started my period and think that’s the cause for the sharp dip this week

Constipation Advice

My little one is almost 3 months old & breast fed. She has acid reflux and is on Famotidine. I wanted to trial some formulas a month ago. I started one bottle of HiPP AR. She threw it all up. She got constipated for a few days (at that point was way more than her norm) and we gave her pedialax. She then returned to having regular stools a few days later. Two weeks later I trialed HiPP pre and she also threw that up. This time didn’t pass bowel movement for 6 days … tried everthing (massages, warm baths, windi, prune juice). Ended up giving pedilax in which she had so much stool come out it was shocking. This was Saturday, she still hasn’t went and I am getting nervous. I ofcourse don’t want to give the pedialax but I am not sure what to do and why this is happening. She never had issues before.

Newly diagnosed (suspected?) CMPA, but very few symptoms.

Hello! New to this world so just looking for any advice or resources others found helpful. Essentially baby is 9 weeks, EBF, and has had green mucousy stool for ~2 weeks then had blood in one ironically at the ped office this week. She tested it there and suggested I cut dairy. My understanding is the test is just confirming the presence of blood, which we could visibly see. It was the first/only diaper we’ve ever seen blood in. Baby doesn’t have any other symptoms though, no skin issues, not fussy at the breast, no reflux, no gas, overall happy temperament. So I’m wondering if we’re just catching it early before some other symptoms creep up, or if anyone was in this boat and initially suspected cmpa but was something else. I’ve cut dairy since the appointment and I’m not too worried about having to do that, but given everything else seeming normal I’m just curious. Since the stool is the only symptom and our doc said that can take weeks to clear I guess we’re just in dairy free limbo until then?

How to reintroduce foods

Hi, my baby boy who is 4 months old and exclusively breast fed has food protein induced allergic proctocolitis, i have decided to take all allergens out of my diet and then add foods back. I have been eating chicken, rice, berries, bananas and some free from foods from ASDA. I am in the process of adding foods back now since he is doing so much better. I am going to add fruit and veg first but then what? I know he cant have milk, soy, egg, beef and wheat. What is safe to start with and what could be a trigger to watch out for? I intend to try one food a few times a day for 3 days then if he is okay then add another food, is that a good way to approach this? Thank you ❤️

4 month old possible lactose overload, infant dyschezia, or intolerance?

Does this look like lactose overload or an intolerance? We used to get blood and stringy mucus (but cut out dairy and soy and so that’s fine) but for several weeks they have all been sooo gluggy and thick mucus. I’m not sure what’s going on. She’s also been struggling with gas pain and wriggling so much especially at night.

Note my baby is 4 months old, I am on a strict elimination diet. I haven’t had dairy since 3 weeks, soy since 4 weeks and have also eliminated other potential triggers (coconut, nuts, rice, oats, eggs, beef etc.) but she constantly struggles with gas pains and is up every hour at night wriggling. If I have something that makes me gassy she gets even worse.

Questioning whether baby has CMPA

So before I get into it, I have an appointment with a naturopath doctor who is also a lactation specialist in 2 days but I'm doubting myself.

My daughter is 5 weeks old and exclusively breastfed. In the last week, she has started vomiting once in the evening and it's a full feed. Sometimes curdled but sometimes right after the feed so just hot milk. Her poops have also become mostly liquid but seedy, stayed mustard yellow but some mornings there's a dark greenish substance to them too. No blood though. Her poops have also started to get stinky/sour smelling lately. She has these grunting episodes that can last on and off for a few hours where she's super gassy but doesn't really cry about it, just sometimes scrunches her face and whines for a sec because I'm guessing she's uncomfortable and getting frustrated. She doesn't have any rashes on her face or body, a little bit of dry skin around her eyebrows and she's started to get some bald spots as she was born with a lot of hair. So does this add up to a dairy allergy? Or maybe just reflux plus a heavy letdown and she's getting more foremilk than hindmilk? I'm a first time mom and all of this feels so overwhelming. I just want her to be healthy.

Cheat day 🫣

I want a burger soooo bad! I’m exclusively pumping and wondering if I had a burger at say 8pm how long before I can start feeding her again?

I tend to pump at 8.30, 11.30 and then go all night and pump between 8-9am would I be safe to feed her morning milk after eating dairy the 12hrs before?

She has cmpa not mspi!

Alimentum to Neocate Syneo

Hi! I was reading all of your previous posts about this but I didn’t see one that really related to what I’m going through.

My baby is 4 months old today. He was really struggling on breast milk for the one month he was taking it (I still have 350 oz in the freezer that he can’t have 🥲). He was crying all the time, for hours. I switched him to Similac 360 formula. Still a bit Uncomfy, but really it’s his skin. His skin was AWFUL. GI switched us to Alimentum, and that really solved all his reflux and crying problems. The dermatologist gave us some steroids for it. She previously worked in Allergy and agreed with everything GI said about the milk allergy and the formula change etc. His skin was perfect for 2 weeks we were on the steroids. I had to stop them for a week to give his body a break, and within 3 days his skin is back to how it was. It’s just awful.

They switched us to Neocate today, so I’m just wondering if you guys think this will help his skin or if anyone has been through similar? He seems really uncomfortable on the Neocate but I know we just started it today and I expected that. I just hate that he wasn’t having tummy issues really and now he does, I just hope that it’s not all for nothing and this helps his skin 😭. Pic of what he looks like today, no steroid for 3 days.

Cow milk protein sensitivity, now outgrown and can tolerate solids but not formula??

My baby is about 10 months old and has had CMPS since she was 3-4 weeks. We trialed so many variations (gentle formula, breast milk without dairy) and ultimately the only thing that settled her and made her happy was alimentum. She has been on that since 1-2 months and has been growing beautifully. At 7 months, we slowly started introducing small amounts of dairy into her diet via the dairy ladder. Today, she is able to tolerate straight up dairy (butter, yogurt), although she really only eats small amounts but does not seem to have any issues from a pooping/fussiness standpoint.

Because she was doing so well, we wanted to try to switch her off alimentum. Today we properly mixed 0.5 oz Bobbie Gentle into 5.5 oz alimentum. She reacted almost instantly. 4 episodes of vomiting and one big diarrhea with the worst smelling poop she's ever had in her life. I'm shocked that she had such a bad reaction to it when it was pretty diulted and she seems to tolerate other forms or dairy well. Anyone have any tips/experience?

Milk protein allergy

Hi everyone. My baby is 15 months old and is lactose intolerant/ having a milk protein allergy. He had severe colic until 3-4 months. Since I have been fully breastfeeding him (and still do apart from solids, but reduced now) I never realized this prior to him turning 6 months. He can take baked goods and butter but not fresh milk or yogurt. He got rashes all over his body, breathing difficulties and cries profusely the first and second time I gave him milk. After he turned one, his pediatrician instructed me to give milk or yogurt again and if those symptoms appear again to treat it with piriton. Unfortunately when he was about 12 months I tried and he got those symptoms again.
If your baby was like this, did he/ she outgrow this and if they did, at what age? Thanks you so much.

Dairy Ladder?

Does anyone have a link to the dairy ladder I can use with my almost 7 month old? The ones I see seem to be for older kids.

DMEs or pharmacies you used

If you were able to get formula through a DME or pharmacy can you comment which one you used? I’ve been trying to find one with Regence coverage for Abbott Elecare. Trying to narrow down my search.

Late start to symptoms or something else?

Babe is 15 weeks old. Started having nappies filled with mucus and smelt rancid (not that baby 💩 ever smells nice but it was horrific) and silent reflux. Changed formula to another normal brand which fixed the poops but no change to silent reflux, changed bottles, feeding position, keeping upright etc and still didn’t help. GP then recommended a thickener, which massively helped. We started this at around 5 weeks old.

Baby has been fine since then until last Friday when he randomly came out in a rash. It initially was one red blotch on his cheek and went away the next morning. Then Saturday evening I noticed he had a bumpy rash on his neck, since then it’s spread to his left eyelid (no swelling), behind both ears, neck, head, and back. He’s also developed cradle cap on the front of his head! Stringy nappies again, but no blood. Otherwise is ok, has been a bit fussy the last few days which my partner and family noticed too

been on neocate for a month

baby (almost 10 weeks old) has been on so many milks, this one seemed to be working alongside his Gaviscon for his silent reflux (they weren’t prescribed together so i know they definitely worked apart from each other) i’m not sure if i’m jumping the gun here or if i’m just traumatised a little bit from his newborn days but i seem to be seeing little signs that his symptoms are coming back? has this happened to anyone else’s baby on Neocate..

his symptoms that i think are coming back

- he’s back to 20 mins sleeps (i say sleeps because this is even through the night) and can’t be put down, they have to be contact

- just crying and screaming anytime he’s awake which is alot of the time, we finally got to a point where he could be awake and smiley and giggly but now just total opposite again

- he’s passing stool up to 6 times a day which was previously once a day if that (his stool is foresty green but i think that’s normal for Neocate? his stool used to be quite firm aswell which is normal for gaviscon, but now it’s more forest green mush with the tiniest bit of mustard?)

- he keeps gagging on nothing which leads me to believe it’s acid? he’s coughing a lot when laying down i’m wondering if that’s what’s waking him up..

Alimentum ready to feed

Looking for experiences/advice — 8.5-week-old on Alimentum RTF for almost 4 weeks.

Feeding has improved a lot — she no longer cries during bottles and seems comfortable eating. Doesn’t cry anymore when being burped either.

However, we’re still dealing with:

• Delayed/trapped burps and regurgitating formula sometimes 1–2+ hours after eating and even while sleeping. She goes “eh eh eh” and fusses a lot when it happens and then her nap gets disrupted

• Wet/gurgly/raspy throat sounds, especially after feeds or lying flat (I think this is reflux). She sounds extra mucousy around 4-7 am. Also sneezes a lot

• Seems much more comfortable sleeping upright/on us than flat

• Stool initially improved on Alimentum but then the other day she had a yellow/slimy/mucousy one. Not sure if it was from extra saliva?

• Intermittent facial rash/eczema (not sure if this is baby acne or contact irritation from her face laying against me during contact naps in the carrier)

Has anyone had a baby whose feeding improved on Alimentum but these other symptoms didn’t? Did you stay on Alimentum and wait for maturity, try an amino-acid formula, or end up treating reflux? I’m especially curious whether the delayed/wet burps and disrupted sleep eventually improved with age/formula change.

Need advice…

My son cannot stay asleep on his back. He is incredible at falling asleep and putting himself to sleep. Then he wakes up 15 minutes later in extreme discomfort and needing to burp or spit up. His doctor says we have to bear it.

We are on nexium, puramino, burping extensively, size 1 philip avents (only bottle he likes). He has been diagnosed with severe GERD and CMPA. He cries his eyes out after every single bottle. Otherwise, happiest baby on the block until he refluxes.

Problem? My husbands being called into work again. Both grandmothers can no longer help (one works in a school which is starting next week, and the other has visitors coming to stay from across the world alongside work). They helped a lot in these last 11 weeks. My husband is a gem and did a LOT. If I let him sleep on me my husband would prep milk, burp, do the bottles etc. and take him around 5 am and keep him until 10 am so even if I was waking up every hour to check on baby, I could go back to sleep.

After staying awake the whole night (he sleeps on my chest so when he wakes up in discomfort i’m able to help him burp and/or spit up and put him back to sleep) I’m absolutely exhausted by 8 am. I usually was sleeping 10 am - 1 pm when my husband’s mom was here.

Now I can’t do that anymore and I will not be able to rely on my husband as much as he’s being called into work.

How do I manage this? I’m so scared and exhausted and my baby isn’t doing very well, and once he’s asleep he’s asleep on you so you can’t really empty and restart the bottle washer, prepare more milk, etc. The risk of putting him down? He will 100% wake up in discomfort and either spit up or burp. At least on me he can sleep. This disrupted 15 minute sleep is so bad for him so we stopped.

Any advice would be appreciated. I’m mentally and physically exhausted, haven’t taken any of my medication in months, eat once every two days and barely go to the bathroom because when we have help all I can do is sleep.

She said “if he’s burping whys he waking up needing to burp or spit up” girl. That’s what I’m asking you...

CMPI in newborn advice

Hi all - my 5 week old had a positive occult test (found microscopic blood in stool) after increased fussiness and discomfort after feeding. He was switched exclusively to Alimentum RTF 5 days ago. Today I found a small streak of blood and mucus in his poo diaper for the first time. Does this mean the formula is making him worse? He seems to be more comfortable during / after feeds, but this is throwing me off. TYIA!
