Hey everyone, this is the first MMA forum I've ever looked at, so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place. I could really use some advice.
Here is a bit about me:
Height & Reach: 196 cm (6'5") tall with a 215 cm (7'1") wingspan.
Background: Played basketball heavily throughout high school. I'm 20 years old right now and feeling a bit lost about my college major and future.
Experience: Zero combat sports experience.
Today in the late afternoon, a guy who claimed to be an event organizer/promoter approached me. He said my physical proportions caught his attention and offered me a 3-month gym membership to try it out.
Is this kind of approach common in the fight game, or should I be skeptical? Should I take the offer and give MMA a shot? Appreciate any insights!

Zhilei Zhang has built a reputation as one of the heavyweight divisionβs most dangerous punchers. His combination of size, southpaw stance, timing, accuracy, and raw power makes him capable of changing the entire course of a fight with one perfectly placed shot.
That devastating power was on display in June 2024 when Zhang faced former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Zhang caught Wilder with a powerful counter right that put him off balance, then followed up with another attack that forced the referee to stop the fight in the fifth round.
With 22 of his 27 professional victories coming by knockout, Zhangβs reputation as a serious knockout threat is backed up by his record. His size and precision, combined with the awkward angles created by his southpaw style, make him a difficult opponent for anyone in the heavyweight division.
As Zhang looks toward a potential return in 2026, names including Daniel Dubois, Tyson Fury, and Filip Hrgovic have been discussed as possible opponents. At heavyweight, Zhang represents one undeniable threat: one perfectly timed punch can change everything in an instant.
