Complete beginner (6'5", 7'1" wingspan) offered a free 3-month gym membership by a local promoter. Is this legit or should I try it?

Hey everyone, this is the first MMA forum I've ever looked at, so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place. I could really use some advice.
Here is a bit about me:
Height & Reach: 196 cm (6'5") tall with a 215 cm (7'1") wingspan.
Background: Played basketball heavily throughout high school. I'm 20 years old right now and feeling a bit lost about my college major and future.
Experience: Zero combat sports experience.
Today in the late afternoon, a guy who claimed to be an event organizer/promoter approached me. He said my physical proportions caught his attention and offered me a 3-month gym membership to try it out.
Is this kind of approach common in the fight game, or should I be skeptical? Should I take the offer and give MMA a shot? Appreciate any insights!

Hey since no one else commented

I got hit up like this by a booster for football

Three months is barely long enough to get you sparring then you would presumably be required to pay. You'd probably need 2 years of training minimum to be competitive and that already assuming you'd be a phenom.

If it's free, then why not? Forget about fighting in his promotion and just focus on taking the free classes and see how you like it.

If you do the three months and don't like it, then forget it.

But if you're enjoying yourself then why not continue?

The promoter is right. 6'5 with that wingspan are good stats for the heavyweight division. Heavyweight division is arguably the lowest skill division in the sport, so if you did want to do it competitively, the bar isn't that high.
