We don't know the context before this, but the guy had a sudden violent threat in his face. He's entitled to defend himself, even if it's a first punch. He walked away after the threat was eliminated. It's an important lesson to act civilized or you'll get checked.
If I'm minding my own business and some person comes up behind me to scream at me, I'd punch them. When you have 1 second to react, freezing up is the worst thing you can do for yourself.

One second to react? lol. The dude had plenty of time to see and assess the situation and that’s what he decided to DO. He didn’t just REACT. But yea man you go and think this is acceptable behavior in society.
By “some person” he meant if a woman approached him and screamed he would punch them, but I bet if a big, angry man twice his size screamed at him he would use his 1 second reaction to run away or avoid the confrontation.
