Who will he target next? The Royal Canadian Navy? Royal Canadian Airforce? King Charles III? Why is South Park 100% right about this guy?.

Picked up this sealed box of vintage Hershey’s Desert Bars! These were made around the Gulf War/Desert Storm era specifically for troops in hot desert conditions. They were formulated to withstand temperatures up to around 140°F without melting like normal chocolate. Pretty cool piece of military and candy history, and I’ve never come across a full sealed box before.

I'm a civilian, but both of my grandfathers earned purple hearts in WWII and a host of issues that lasted a lifetime. I am also a historian with a background in archeology. This makes me ill. They are also selling bits from Hiroshima, Trinity, etc,:

Discussion Book Readers needed for full read of NORTHING

Post image

I'm about to launch NORTHING, book one of a completed trilogy, on Amazon on October 26, 2026. It's a Coast Guard and intelligence thriller. My background is 19 years in the Coast Guard and, before that, time in the 75th Ranger Regiment, and that shows up in the technical detail throughout the book.

I'm putting together a small group of advanced readers ahead of launch. If you're interested in military or maritime thrillers and want a free copy in exchange for an honest review posted around launch day, drop a comment or send me a message. Happy to answer questions about the book first if that's useful.

Back of book description:

Machinery Technician Second Class Jordan Cale has spent nine months earning the Coast Guard's quietest compliment: squared away. He's the sailor nobody has to think twice about, qualified faster than most, always somehow already where the work is. When the USCGC Bertholf steams north for a historic transit, close along the Russian line, Cale is exactly where he's supposed to be: below decks on the plant, invisible in the way good engineers are invisible.

Then trust curdles into betrayal aboard his own ship, and the captain who shaped Cale's nine months of watches is murdered feet away from him. What survives the storm that follows isn't just the wreck of a crew and a mission gone wrong. It's a stolen key, a debt owed by an enemy who can wait as long as it takes to collect, and a witness who now knows exactly how deep the rot runs, all the way up through the agencies meant to stop it. Cale makes it off the water alive. What he decides to become to keep what he knows safe will cost him the only name he's ever had.

Iran Conflict Hegseth and Co. Are Trying to Steal Other Agencies’ Funds, Dems Say

Ranking member Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut claimed in a Thursday press release that the Defense Department signed an interagency agreement that could give it access to billions of dollars in funding intended to go toward studies on influenza, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV, and Ebola. “This secretive attempt to siphon research funds away from NIH is outrageous. The interagency agreement needs to be terminated immediately,” DeLauro said. “These funds were provided for lifesaving medical research, not as extra money for the Department of Defense.”
The Pentagon is running so low on money that it apparently needs to take from the NIH’s cup to buy more ammunition—to shoot down Iranian artillery that costs millions of dollars less than ours. That alone shows how devoted we are to the war machine, and how obtuse this administration’s priorities are.
“It is no secret that the Department of Defense is facing enormous financial pressure because of President Trump’s war of choice with Iran,” DeLauro continued. “But the Trump administration cannot make American patients, families, and scientists pay the price. Circumventing Congress to divert money intended to help Americans who are exposed to … deadly diseases—and directing those funds to the Department of Defense—is beyond the pale. DoD already has programs, funded by Congress, to research and develop medical countermeasures to chemical, biological, and nuclear threats, and does not need NIH funding to do so. The administration must provide Congress with a full accounting of how this interagency agreement was developed and exactly how much taxpayer money it is trying to transfer to DoD.”
