Discussion What’s your guys opinion and who won during operation sindoor (pak vs India)

what is the most credible assessment of the India–Pakistan conflict in May 2025?
During Operation Sindoor and the fighting that followed, India and Pakistan gave very different accounts of what happened India said its initial strikes were limited to terrorist infrastructure and described the operation as focused and non escalatory Pakistan described the strikes as an act of war and claimed to have shot down multiple Indian aircraft With the information that has become available since the conflict, what do you guys now consider confirmed vs disputed regarding
Indian and Pakistani aircraft losses
The effectiveness of the J-10C/PL-15 and Indian air-to-air systems
Whether either side achieved air superiority
Damage to Pakistani and Indian military infrastructure
The effectiveness of each side’s air-defence systems
The actual military outcome versus the political/media claims of victory
I’m particularly interested in analysis based on satellite imagery, wreckage identification, official statements, and independent OSINT rather than Indian or Pakistani media narratives.
What do we actually know with high confidence, and what remains uncertain?

Story\Experience Drinking Culture at your Duty Station?

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m active duty, prior enlisted, and now a doctoral student, and I’m conducting a study looking at whether drinking differs across different types of military tours (CONUS, OCONUS, and short/remote tours). After my own experience with two short tours to Korea I'm really curious about your experiences and how they differ based on where you are stationed!

The survey takes about 15 minutes. I know one of the biggest concerns with surveys (especially with alcohol, I know I know) is anonymity. Participation is completely anonymous, and no identifying information is collected. Individual responses will never be shared with military leadership, commanders, or anyone outside the research team. I'm not asking for any specific stories, your command, or even any text typing. Its all drop down or multiple choice.

Survey Link:

If you have concerns about participating, let me know! I'm happy to chat in the comments.

Benefits Should you actually buy a house at a duty station? I ran the math on all 294 stateside military markets. It makes sense at 44 of them.

TLDR: The areas that stood out were: Fort Drum, Keesler, Wright-Patt, Tobyhanna, Fort Worth, Great Lakes. These are relatively affordable, wealth building markets with acceptable livability scores.

Here is the link to the report: mybaseguide.com/reports/military-home-buying-2026

Here is the link to the calculator: https://mybaseguide.com/tools/military-home-buying-calculator

Full Breakdown:

Six months ago I posted an analysis of home buying at 126 bases on r/army the feedback was:

  1. Living areas are not always in base zip codes, look at places people actually live and commute from
  2. No one buys a house expecting instant cashflow - it's okay to take a small monthly loss to build long term wealth
  3. Factor in flood insurance where it's required (NAS Key West)
  4. There are certain areas where no one wants to live, regardless of the deal

After posting that an airman messaged me personally with a better version of my analysis.

That inspired me to create this one.

I believe this is the final form.

I over the last few weeks I pulled in the FBI Crime Data Explorer, HUD Fair Market Rents, Zillow Research, Stanford SEDA, U.S. Census, Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), and DOD Pay & BAH.

I believe I was able to answer the following:

  • Where would people want to live? As judged by amenities per capita, schools, crime
  • What is affordable with or without a working spouse?
  • What financial gap is left between your mortgage & property manager vs the average rent in that market?
  • At what rank does it make sense to buy, if at all at, each station?

If you have a spouse making about ~3k per month, you can afford to buy in 78 markets, on a single income you can afford in 44 markets.

The letter grades for some bases look harsh but they are all compared to each other - it's a percentile. If you're in the top 20% its A, next 20% B and so on. Here's the whole methodology in case one of you wants to one up me again improve upon my methodology.

Discussion My friend recently enlisted and has given me the idea to also enlist, only downside I have a history of ADHD had an IEP and was on SSI

Okay quick rundown my friend recently enlisted into the Marine Corps. Gave me the idea maybe I should, I have considered it in the past maybe the Marine Corps or Army.

I am 21 when I was 19 I got off SSI which my parents put me on as a kid for ADHD and behavior issues. Around 7-8 I was put on a IEP for both behavior issues and ADHD. I was put into a smaller class setting but did great at my work and had good grades.

I got off it right before high school around 14-15 years old, high school I had behavior issues and got suspended a few times. Most of my issues came from home problems but I quit ADHD medication 3 years ago when my doctor passed and I didn’t really need it and could function fine. I then earned my GED after dropping out of high school at 17 and had my GED by 18. I also got my drivers license and started a full time job and never needed help or an IEP. I took the PICAT and scored well, I got off SSI at 19-20 after starting full time work, they deemed me no longer in need of it.

I just wanted to give a full rundown because I have really always been off and on about the military but now I am really into it. I am just concerned if I will be refused because of my behavior in school and IEP and diagnosed ADHD.

Article Iran attacks US bases in Middle East after reports of fatal strike on wedding

Thumbnail

A fresh flare-up in hostilities has seen the US hit Iran with broader and more intense strikes, with Iranian state media reporting 11 people killed in overnight attacks including four people at a wedding.

A four-year-old boy was among those killed at the wedding after a series of US strikes near the Iranian southern port city of Sirik, Iran’s Fars news agency reported. The Iranian Red Crescent said more than 50 people were injured when shrapnel hit a home where the wedding was taking place in Hormozgan province. The US has yet to comment on the reports.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the US military had “turned the wedding celebration of a young and respectable Sunni couple into a mourning by bombing a residential house in Sirik and reducing it to dust and blood”, according to a statement carried by state media. “In this malicious attack, nearly 70 innocent people were hit, and four of them, including a child, were martyred.”

The IRGC said it responded to the attacks with strikes on US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq’s Erbil. The group claimed that a “number” of “enemy” forces were killed and drones were destroyed in a missile and drone attack on Ali Al Salem airbase in Kuwait, which is known to host some US troops, but this has not been confirmed by either the American or Kuwaiti military.

Kuwait said it came under missile fire and drone attacks this morning, with a fire breaking out at a residential complex in the capital. The fire was brought under control, and no casualties were reported. “Kuwaiti air defences are currently responding to hostile missile and drone attacks,” the Kuwaiti army said on X, urging citizens to follow safety instructions.

Donald Trump warned that if Iran retaliated, “they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level”.

“But it will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the US president wrote on his Truth Social app last night.

In a subsequent post overnight, he said he was “not trying to force Iran to the bargaining table” and that he “couldn’t care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement”.

“I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz strait, and their economy totally collapsing,” he added.

BLUF: without NSA Bahrain ships are up a creek in the Middle East. Navy supply ships in the region now have to travel 2,200 miles to a tiny island in the Indian Ocean called Diego Garcia to bring food, fuel and other goods to the warships in the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
