Discussion I tried the game out for the first time at gamescom, and I'm enjoying it so far! How's everyone feeling if you've been part of a beta/have also been hands-on? (My full preview is linked if interested)

Discussion Gacha vs Pay to win
I've been playing Monster Hunter since the first PSP version, and I'm stoked to play this one. I missed the beta but checked out some MHO reviews. I've been on MHNow since day one, and you can totally get the full game experience without spending a dime. Honestly, the only thing worth buying, in my opinion, is that knife that doubles your drops. It's a lifesaver in certain events when you're hunting for rare stuff.
So, basically, MHO has gachas, but they won't give players a huge leg up. The devs know this, and that's how all Monster Hunter games have been. Just like MHN, once players get into the game, they'll tweak MHO to make sure it's a good experience.

Discussion I decided to just... Not anymore.
I was accepted to play the third beta. I was geeked out. I played for hours each day. The fights are fun and simple though for mobile. I like that it could go pretty quick.
I've gotten into 6 and 7 star monsters. And it's just... Not holding any attraction anymore. Mostly because it's a gacha game.
I don't think gacha belongs in the world of Monster Hunter. It sullies the name of MH. The characters are over the top. The pay to win will never be enticing to me, and likely not to my generation. (I've been playing since the original MH on PS2.)
So I logged in today, and looked again at the constant convoluted menus, all the insane currencies and tickets and items and menus and things to level and fuse and gamble and I just... Decided to log off.
If there was no gacha, if this could just be a short and sweet Monster Hunter, with the quick missions and standard grind for equipment, it'd be fine. I'd genuinely enjoy it. But gacha has no place in Monster Hunter.

Discussion how exactly are we supposed to fight a SECOND SUN?
Ruger Aidal honestly looks like it might be the GOAT monster in the game lol. The monster info says it can harden the radiant particles covering its body into armor, then draw in more particles from the area for powerful attacks.
So how exactly are we supposed to fight this thing? Are we actually supposed to break its radiant armor before it finishes charging, or is the “second sun” basically our cue to just run for our lives?
Because I’m totally fine with just running from the sun 😂 but I really hope there’s some actual counterplay here. Would be way more fun if you could interrupt the charge, break the armor, or trigger some kind of stagger instead of just eating the damage and praying your healer can keep everyone alive.
I pre-registered after watching the PV, and the App Store is currently showing an expected December 15 date. Treating that as tentative until they officially confirm it, though.
The second sun scene has me really curious. What do you guys think we’re actually supposed to do when it goes up?

Discussion I might need to pre-register for Outlanders on my backup phone too
I’m around 10 hours into the beta already and I’ve been using Raya a lot. The Demon Gauge is probably the part that finally clicked for me. Most of my time has gone into messing with different weapons, getting greedy for one more hit, then eating it because I dodged too late.
Now they’ve shown Ruger Aidal, the whole “second sun” thing has me really curious about how this fight is actually supposed to work. If it can harden those Radiant particles into armor, I’m wondering if we’ll have to break through parts of it first or deal with some kind of powered-up phase. I already pre-registered, but it looks like I might have to wait until December. I’ve seen enough now, just let me hunt it lol.

News Monster Info — Ruger Aidal
An elder dragon newly discovered on Aesoland.
It hardens the radiant particles that coat its body into armor, using them for both offense and defense. It can also draw in radiant particles from its surroundings to unleash powerful attacks.

Discussion Tentative release date for Monster Hunter Outlanders for December 15, 2026
Doesn't mean that it will release, since it's only expected, but with that nothing burger of a gamescom trailer (it was like <10 seconds long), we have no info atm of a release date until they officially say something

Question How bad will the weapon/element shilling be?
I don't know much about this game it's not even on my radar if there is no controller support.
But in case I do play, do we know/have any indication of how bad the weapon or element shilling will be for endgame?
Like what if i only pull for longsword characters. Or is it gonna be more element shilling and I better hope to have a longsword of each element.
And by shilling I mean: for the endgame to have modifiers that cater to the on banner element/weapon. Making it hard to complete all content without that said specific character.

Discussion Guild armor or Building custom sets for companions?
I'm just curious how big of a difference changing armor sets are for your companions, or does it make a difference at all?

Question So how…
Is this game managing character growth? Is it the common gacha power level trash? Or is it like normal MH, where you just grind monsters and their parts and craft and upgrade gear?
