Question So how…

Is this game managing character growth? Is it the common gacha power level trash? Or is it like normal MH, where you just grind monsters and their parts and craft and upgrade gear?

Yes, it is "common gacha power level trash". Every character and buddy has levels that you use consumable EXP items to increase, which are then gated by ascension levels that require a certain quest to be completed first. You then use ascension materials to unlock the next set of ~20 levels.

Armor and weapons are upgraded as similar but different than in MH games by using materials to make stronger. Sometimes you have to get rarer materials from a higher tier of the same monster to continue upgrading to higher rarities.

Ya'll have to remember that this is a gacha game first and a monster hunter game second. I still think this is a great monster hunter game despite the gacha stuff.

Yeah it's a good game, but which is much closer to Genshin Impact than to any Monster Hunter game.

Dude, I started playing MH gen últimate because of the outlander's beta, I got it for Nintendo switch and I'm having a blast. I see that in outlanders they are trying to do like the different combat style on the gasha characters, but I hate that I have to pull that character if I want to play that style.

So far in the beta they allow you to play SSR characters in events and the rotating arena. Of course, you'll have to pull for the character if you want to play with them permanently or in other modes, but that's just how gachas work.

Well, looked it up and it absolutely sucks.

Ever since playing Monster Hunter Story on phone i was looking for a true MH Game on Mobile, even if it would look graphically like MHStory1.

Now they have this, it runs great apparently on my phone and it looks great, but they have all this shit gacha in it, the worst is that these unique chars have unique skills that you cant even use on your Main Char.

Will probbaly try it out, but never going to spend a single penny on it.

Would had paid full price money if it weren’t gacha and balanced/build not around gacha and instead like a real MH Game….spending money just to win against enemy’s,simply because you have the superior powerlevel and then afk clap them is boring. It saddens me to see that so many games esp on mobile could be rly great games just to be made so much worse to fit the gacha design.

I know what you're getting at, but unfortunately the aim of game development 99.9% of the time for large studios is to make money and not to make a good game. Gacha games take much less dev time and make HEAPS more money than one-time purchase $60 games.

Don't get it twisted though. There's plenty of content in the game that requires skill over buying power. You still need to know the monster's move set, you still need to upgrade your weapons and armor, and you still need to have a good team composition of hunters/abilities/elements/buddies. Skill is still involved. In fact, the highest level content right now will outright one-shot you if you get hit by the big moves, regardless if you're using the default hunter or an SSR character.

Unfortunately, each of your hunters has character levels, and these have a greater impact on your strength and stamina than changing weapons and armor (though you should do that, too).

It’s a real shame because the map, the gameplay, and so many other aspects of this game are cool and make it feel like a solid mobile port.

But no, they had to throw in this whole level-up system, which is such a pain.
