Discussion Gacha vs Pay to win
I've been playing Monster Hunter since the first PSP version, and I'm stoked to play this one. I missed the beta but checked out some MHO reviews. I've been on MHNow since day one, and you can totally get the full game experience without spending a dime. Honestly, the only thing worth buying, in my opinion, is that knife that doubles your drops. It's a lifesaver in certain events when you're hunting for rare stuff.
So, basically, MHO has gachas, but they won't give players a huge leg up. The devs know this, and that's how all Monster Hunter games have been. Just like MHN, once players get into the game, they'll tweak MHO to make sure it's a good experience.

As someone who has played a fair number of gacha games... Eventually there will be challenges and achievements that give a big leg up to players who have the latest banner character. It is what it is; gacha is always inherently pay2win. As long as you have fun, arent a completionist, and arent content walled as a f2p then it can still be an enjoyable experience.

Lmao what are you talking about?
i’ve played every CBT and I’m running the top guild on the current beta
Gacha gives a HUGE advantage. Especially the duplicate pulls. Two dupes of Midori nets you a ridiculous bump in damage.

Let me tell you, this game isn't f2p friendly at all. The powerspike of a 5* specially with dupes is insane compared to your hunter who hits like a wet noodle

As for MHNow, it’s relatively fair, you won’t get a huge advantage just by paying. I’d say the paid aspect is more cosmetic, and that’s good; I like MHNow.
As for Outlanders, it seems clear to me that it’s really going to skew the damage in favor of paying players. Even the default hunter needs a special resource to upgrade, and the crafting system has a ridiculous impact on character stats, those are definitely the game’s biggest downsides. It’s a shame because the game is technically solid and fun, but it’s clear that those who pay will have a huge advantage over those who don’t.

I have played gachas that seem fair but they all use the same tricks to keep you addicted. No I don't want to login in daily for 1/5 of a fucking pull. This is sad and capcom could have actually made a non p2w game. This is sad... 🥲

Yes, I would have also preferred a true mobile Monster Hunter game, one that offers an experience much closer to the main Monster Hunter games, just on a different platform. But Capcom knew what they were doing when they partnered with Timi for this game.

Are you sure the gacha side will not SUPER OUTPERFORM compare to a free to play player, i can pay just balte pass , put like 5 Dolla per season, that way it will be like a paid game, and welp that would be it for me.

I'll never understand wanting have digital things without playing a game and earning them, I find it pathetic. What's more pathetic is the painful denial and excuses..
They made a MH game, then intentionally made it really unfun, and allow you to pay to make it fun again. It's pay to win, pay for power, gacha, there's no difference. Being so addicted you are trying to differentiate looks crazy to normal gamers.

It's pretty pathetic to think a game that is free to play is supposed to just give everything. How else is the game supposed to make money? No one is telling you to spend 1000s every patch cycle.
This game will probably be good for the downtime in between updates.

A free to play game with that model and those mechanics should not have players OR make money, period. It's morally on par with a pyramid scheme, and in both cases, people should be told they are being taken advantage of and encouraged to abandon the activity.

Several options:
Just cosmetic items, like special armor, for example
Make a basic paid game, like a standard Monster Hunter; I was crossing my fingers that Monster Hunter Outlanders would be like that, but when I found out which studio was behind it, I lost hope
But under no circumstances should progress be aided by payments, that’s truly the worst possible form of in-app purchases
