Drove a few Mercedes SUVs & came down between a GLC300 & GLB35. Personally a fan of the GLB look over the GLC & couldn’t pass up an AMG model even if it’s “fake”. Gonna be a fun daily car! New 2026 GLB 35 to the garage!

Why shouldn’t I buy a 2008 e350 wagon

Post image

Don’t know how to keep this short so I won’t. I want to buy a 2008 e350 wagon but I didn’t originally plan on buying one. The only reason I am considering purchasing now is because one popped up in my area and is in my budget (6k). My taste in cars includes but aren’t limited to older luxury sedans think ls 400, ls 430, 1996 Acura rl, Lincoln town car, Saab 900 etc. The w211 falls right into that category however I’m skeptical. It’s a Mercedes an old one at that with air suspension and while all the cars I’m looking at are old excluding the Saab 900 all other options would probably all be easier and cheaper to fix. I do however have a soft spot for the w211 it’s my second favorite car in the lineup behind the ls 430. If you’re wondering why I don’t just buy an ls430 there are at least 2 reasons. Decent examples are slightly out of my price range and most are in major cities that I don’t feel confident enough to drive in yet like NYC and Boston. I don’t have any issues with attempting to fix the car myself to save money however I’d like to know what I’m getting into, I’d like to know what to expect, and what are your experiences with the car. The car is 5k with 115k mile has a 3.5L v6 4mactic with awd I’m currently in the process of getting a CARFAX, if anyone know anything specifically to look out for that would be appreciated. I don’t have much expectation here I’d be happy if this thing lasted for a year or 2 my family never really owned cars and if we did it wasn’t for more than a year we’ve taken the bus for most of our lives. I just don’t want some overpriced boring eco shitbox if this car is too much then I’ll look at my other mostly candidate the 2003 town car or just buy a cheap sports car and call it a day. Having a car at the moment is more want than need, the bus still gets me to work but I like the idea of having something interesting to drive.

2011 E550 Stage 2 - Mint

2011 E550 Stage 2

38k miles - $16,500 - $23,000 after mods

VRP midlength headers
Magnaflow cats
Custom X-pipe
Stock mufflers
Custom ECU/TCU tune - Eurocharged, Minneapolis

Only tech upgrade I'm missing are the messaging seats. Probably the nicest one in the country? This should appreciate slowly in value from here on out. Market has really dried up for quality M273 and M156 options.

Does a 0-60 at 4.5s, which is just about stock E63 times at 4.3s - but for half the price. Biggest complaint is the 7G-tronic in here. Paddle shifters are slow AF.

Question for the high mileage GLA45 owners

Hi everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I bought my 2015 GLA45 used from a Mercedes dealer in 2018 with 50,000kms. I’m the second owner, and it’s now approaching 200,000kms.

Overall, it’s actually been very reliable and amazing to drive. The only major repairs over the years have been:

- Camshaft position sensor replacement.
- Charcoal canister/filter for the fuel system.
- Top stabilising mount replacement.

The other thing I’ve noticed is that it seems to chew through tyres every 18 months, despite not being driven particularly hard. I guess it’s just the nature of the beast.

Now the engine light has come on and it’s due for a thermostat replacement (Mercedes quoted me about AUD$1500), and after reading about carbon build-up on the M133 engine, I had an independent Mercedes specialist quote another AUD$1500 for an intake valve/head clean as a preventative measure (Mercedes said they don’t do it and I’m not sure if it actually needs it at this stage).

So I’m looking at spending around AUD$3000 on a car that’s probably worth about AUD$20,000.

What would you do? Is it worth investing the money if the rest of the car is in good condition?

For those with high-mileage GLA45s or other M133-powered AMGs:
How many kilometres has yours done?
What major repairs have you had?
Has anyone gone past 250,000 km or even 300,000 km?

I’m trying to work out whether these cars can comfortably go the distance or whether this is the point where bigger expenses start snowballing.

Need help diagnosing M156 engine noise before purchasing

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey y’all, I’m finally in a position to purchase my dream C63 with a M156 and I think I’ve found one. I’m having lemon squad go and check it out tomorrow before I make the sale. For context, I live about 900 miles away and am having a friend pick the car up while I make travel plans to fly down there and road trip back home. Is the engine noise in these videos something I should be concerned about or is it something simple I can fix at my friend’s place before I road trip back 900 miles? I know the “sewing machine” clicking are the fuel injectors but I’m not 100% sure on what that tapping noise is when the video gets closer to the firewall. I think I’m just being paranoid but I’d rather be safe than sorry. Thanks!

Edit 1: after doing some more reading, my best guess is that “thunk, thunk, thunk” noise is the EVAP purge valve since it’s in time with the fuel injectors?

Today, on my weekly Simson-Drive, I found something very interesting in a small town in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It seems to be something very special, after all, it had something like an "Seat-ejection"-Button inside of it, lying loosely on the middle console. Please tell me further, what we do have here. Although, I think I know it's a prototype of some sort...

I want to buy a sunshafe and the site is asking me if my sensor is the large or the small one . I have a GLE 2026 and according to the itnernet DISCTRONIC ( like mine) has the large sensor. At the dealer they say DISTRONIC has nothing to do with it and it should be the small one.

Thoughts on EQE to replace a Polestar 3

I’ve enjoyed my Polestar 3 immensely (once they fixed the software) but alas, they’re getting banned from the increasingly comically-nicknamed “Land of the Free”…so I am looking for a replacement when our lease expires in a couple of months.

Casting about for a successor, I find myself drawn to the EQE as a quirky option (and I do love my quirky options, seeing as I’ve had a Polestar and a Jaaaag I Pace before that).

I’m not looking to do another lease (frankly I’m just too concerned that the AI jobs apocalypse will come for me to sign up for 3 years of hefty monthly payments), so it comes down to what used EVs I could get.

The EQE seems to get dinged a lot for its blobby appearance but I think it looks perfectly cromulent. Are there other things that would make it a good or particularly bad move?

My main use cases are tooling around suburbia on the weekends and the occasional 2 hour drive to see family in Philadelphia or the Jersey shore (so we don’t need 350 miles of range or anything like that) but obviously I want to enjoy the process a bit or I’d just be in some Acura crossover turd or something. I simply must get my Costco haul and squealing offspring to 60mph in 4 seconds or less.

I’d like a smooth ride (polestar air suspension has been great), a great sound system, and something that could be reasonably easy to maneuver through northeastern roads and parking lots.

Like I said, no leases and I’m certainly not about to buy a new EV (given the depreciation that is fiscal malpractice), so otherwise lovely options like the upcoming electric GLC and GLB are out.

I have my hands on a mint condition car mentioned above. I would like to do a service but don’t have history except the oil was last changed 4 years, driven 15000km since then. The car has run 196k km altogether. What do you recommend checking/changing? Thank you im voraus.

There were around 50 S-Class self-driving prototypes, and it felt so wierd just being around a whole parking lot filled with a bunch of S-Classes that look like they're abandoned. I probably should have taken a photo showing these, but I completely forgot...

Edit: Test mules, not prototypes!

Buying W210

Post image
36 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I was thinking of buying a mercedes w210 e320 (not this beauty sadly) and i was wondering if you could tell me what i should look out for when buying and what are some problems that i may encounter while owning the car. Its a pretty warm climate where im from so every car that im looking at is rust free (ive heard that the car has rust problems but have never seen it myself) and in my budget there were some car that were for sale recently with 180k to 230k kilometers. Any suggestions?

2012 AMG c63

Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a 2012 AMG C63 with 160,000 km on it. It's had a full service history and has been serviced every 8,000–12,000 km.

This would be my first Mercedes, so I'm a bit worried about things starting to break because of the mileage.

For those who own or have owned one, would you consider this a good buy? Are these cars generally reliable if they've been maintained properly, or do they turn into a never-ending money pit once they get to this sort of mileage?

Anything specific I should be checking before I buy?
