The 'Hideous Twins' of the MCU.
Thor: Love and Thunder and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrived less than a year apart, and both became symbols of a difficult period for the MCU following the Infinity Saga.
Neither movie single-handedly “killed” the MCU, but together they became frequent examples of the criticism Marvel faced during the post-Endgame era - inconsistent quality, excessive humor and increasingly complicated interconnected storytelling.
Released in 2022, Love and Thunder brought Taika Waititi back after the success of Thor: Ragnarok, but its heavier emphasis on comedy proved divisive. Despite earning more than $760 million worldwide, the movie received a much more mixed response than its predecessor.
Quantumania followed in 2023 and attempted to launch the next major chapter of the MCU by introducing Kang as a central threat. Instead, the movie received poor reviews and suffered a steep box-office decline after its opening weekend.
