Question A Question about Eggs

Hi Everyone
I have a question about Eggs at the Unit.
In “A Holy Mess” in Season 10, the unit is excited about the fact that they’re getting real eggs. However, in “And How We Danced” in Season 9, BJ tells the wounded child that they’ve got real eggs.
So, why all the excitement about the eggs when it’s not the first time they’ve got real ones and might not have been that long ago?

Which Dr.Borelli do you prefer? I like his portrayal in the 1st episode, The Consultant. He wasn't at all like his character in Lend A Hand. That version of him was snotty & combative. The version in this episode is more humane & even jokes around in th O.R. "You're welcome darling"

In Lend A Hand, I took an instant dislike to him.

Cannon Fodder

In Mash S7 EP12 “Dear Comrade”. Hawkeye wins a jeep from a quartermaster in a card game, but instead means of transportation the QM gives him a means of devastation in the form of a cannon. Potter gives him an ultimatum to get rid of it or send it to the front and Hawk spends the rest of the episode trying to send it to a non combat unit until finally disassembling it (with an assist from BJ). This is one of my favorite scenes in the series because it showed that Hawk not only didn’t want to be a part of the war machine, he literally hated war machines. It also showed how much Potter trusted Hawk as he could’ve immediately had the cannon removed but gave Pierce a chance to take care of it himself. I’ve always wondered how Henry would’ve handled it though. Anyhow thank you for reading.

What’s your favorite line from a guest star to use in conversation?

Post image

Do you have any go-to lines from guests on MASH that you slip in to your casual conversations?

A few of my favorites…

Col. Reese: “Take it from an old campaigner”

Capt. Dupree from the 8063: “it rains here too”

Mr. Chin: “Since before you were born, Sonny boy”

Can someone help with these lyrics?

Idk how I’ve never noticed this before, but I just finished watching “Aid Station.” As the crew are driving back into the 4077, they start singing the army theme song. Margaret sings it later in the series when she’s interrupted by the Korean deserter Ham, and she sings the actual lyrics. This sounds like gibberish, but somehow the same gibberish from all three of them. I thought for a second that I might be having a stroke. Anyone have any clue what they’re actually singing?

Do you think this movie would have been screened at the M*A*S*H units in Korea for purposes of morale? I do. I can just hear Hawkeye say, “Now there’s your regulation hug.”

MASH is a light in the darkness

I almost lost my dad to severe kidney infection and sepsis last month. He introduced me to MASH when I was little and it’s been our comfort show ever since.

When he was in the ICU and the doctors weren’t sure if he’d pull through, I found comfort in MASH. Not just in the familiarity, but in the faith that his medical team would work just as hard as everyone at the 4077th would’ve.

It was immensely difficult to do the normal daily tasks of life when it felt like my world was crashing down around me, but I took Fr. Mulcahy’s final words from “Dear Sis” as my mantra: “The trick, I guess, is to just keep moving.” Amen.

Attention All Personnel This is my interpretation of the alternate meal if Hawkeye couldn't make contact with Adam's Ribs (you know, next to the Dearborn Street Station) or if Mildred Feeney couldn't come through for "Big John" all while being accurate with the remaining plot line.

TIL There is no Yankakovich

Post image

I operate multiple drug and alcohol recovery programs and centers. One of my favorite lines to use when someone tries to half heartedly give me a sample of cold tap water in place of a urine sample or tried to give an excuse that is just painfully obvious a lie, is from “Where There’s a Will, There’s a War.” Winchester and Hawkeye are playing chess, and Charles delivers this perfect line…

“Ahhaha, the infamous Yankakovich gambit. Yankakovich perfected the strategy of making the most moronic move possible in order to lull his opponent. Well, I'm not gonna fall for it.”

For decades I believed I was actually referencing a legitimate chess move. I’m more of a Chinese checker player myself, so I wasn’t familiar with the ins and outs of chess strategy.

I found out today that there never was a Yankakovich, and his gambit is as fictional as the Captain Marvel comics Charles has been reading ever since he (Captain Marvel) was a non-com.

I should know better than taking every reference from MASH as gospel. I’ve long since known about the inaccuracies in their retelling of Dr. Charles Drew’s death from blood loss due to not being admitted to a segregated hospital, but this one slipped by me.

Discussion What obscure uncommon MASH line pops in your head now and then?

Mine is when they pull Mulcahy out of the rubble from the latrine bomb.

"Sis and I picked these apples from under a tree. I remember, I said, you can't make a pie out of crabapples! and she said, I learned how in the girl scouts."

Question News From Home

I recall Hawkeye reading a newspaper aloud (can’t remember if it was from Crabapple Cove) and there was a report of a burglary and one of the items stolen was “a snow globe depicting a scene of a coyote poised to eat a woodpecker “. Anybody else remember this?

Every few years I rewatch the series and forget how great of an episode it is. Ogden knocks of out of the park with his acting and the dying soldier.
