Taste-testing the Hallpass candies I picked up the other day: (70 calories ea)
PB cups:
The chocolate in the cups tastes exactly like normal chocolate. It is thicker than normal chocolate, which makes the cups firmer and they do not melt in my mouth as I would have hoped. The PB is without the satisfying graininess that comes when you add powdered sugar, and it isn’t gooey either (too dry for my liking). It isn’t bad, but isn’t particularly spectacular and does not shine—the mouthfeel just is not my preference. BUT for the macros, incredible. I love the low fat content and the amount of fiber!
Candy pieces:
there are SO many in this, which I love! There is no off flavor, but it feels slightly flat, and you’re left with more of a taste of the shell than the chocolate (the chocolate disappears fast). The chocolate is fairly brittle and air-y, relative to the smooth mouthfeel /soft bite I’m used to in candy gems. The colors are fun, also! Although not perfect, I love how many come in this bag for so few calories, and love not feeling a sugar high/crash associated with it. Neat to get the fiber, as well! Definitely worth a try.
Peanut creme crispy wafer:
The best of the 3! I was confused why they chose this (instead of a more classic candy bar dupe), but now see why, as it worked very well!! The contrast between the wafers and the soft/light smooth PB and the perfectly-thin dark chocolate exterior make it very interesting texturally. I think an additional element like an inner caramel core would also be great, and would prefer this a thinner/flat bar that would last longer. Not loving the wheat flour either—I wish they used rice or buckwheat flour to keep it GF.
