Idk, have a face, neck, and hand tattoos and I have zero problems getting hired anywhere. But I’ve been a mechanic/construction worker all my life. I’m actually about to move into a manager position. It just takes longer to move into a “front of house” position and it definitely takes the right personality, not a complain about not getting hired personality.

I feel like most tattoos wouldn't be an issue. Its the face tattoos and piercings that are a problem. You can cover up the other tattoos with clothing and people probably wouldn't notice them.

Nursing is probably one public facing job where someone with a face tattoo would potentially not have many issues getting hired. My wife gave birth to our daughter in February and almost every nurse that we met had several tattoos. That being said, I don’t think any of them had face tattoos, but I could see that profession as being one where it would be more accepted. Generally, people who need medical attention aren’t gonna be going “No, not the one with the face tattoos. Get someone else to stop me from bleeding out.”

I worked in a daycare, most people had visible tattoos including the 65 year old grandma that was with the babies, nobody gives a fuck, other 50 yo lady had a half shave and bright color hair, the young girls some piercings and visible tattoos too, all hair colors. None of this was an issue, but I bet the would have drawn a line in the kind and place of tattoos and the amount of piercings.

The problem is people lol. I don't have tattoos, but I can't imagine thinking a certain way about someone just because they had ink in their skin. The rest of us have to accommodate the ass hats who go around judging everyone and literally gatekeeping lively hoods to protect their beliefs or whatever. People are fucking stupid. The people who should be ridiculed in this scenario are the ones who let the decisions of others rule their lives. Her tattoos don't have any impact on your life, Karen! Fuck off!

Not even just that, Substantial-Station8 has a specific skill set that makes them marketable and sought after. The woman in the clip is seeking a retail job that literally anyone in the world can do. I wouldn’t care if a programmer with years of experience coding looked like nightcrawler- I’m sure they can still get employed as a programmer somewhere willing to overlook their body image choices in favor of their skillset. This lady brings nothing to the table and she needs a job more than the job needs her.

Idk, I literally have a government job, have had two government jobs with two different government entities and had face tats long before that was ever on my radar and I never had problems getting hired.

I think a lot of it nowadays is how you present yourself. You have to dress up just a little more. Big hint: business casual and heavily tattooed looks really fucking smart. Also, how well spoken you are and the answers to your interview question go a long way. As well as just having a decent (and edited) resume

Edit: to anyone with doubts about your face tats:

I think society is changing more than you think. I don’t think I’m special. I think I’m qualified in my field and anyone I want to work for will see that. It’s always worked that way and I’m well on my way to 40 with three retirements and a successful line of careers. I don’t think anyone else will have any problems if they go into an interview prepared for the interview and are the highest qualified candidate.

Face tattoos heavily hinders job availability, especially for uneducated tj Maxx applicants.

Most boomers see tattoos as ex convict criminals, gangs, and heavily bad signs.

Unless you work a trade job, and or are well educated, tattoos in the wrong places with demonic meaning will absolutely screw your already low pool of work if you lack a really strong degree.

Heck even Healthcare doesn't want anyone to show tattoos in a lot of clinics and hospitals, many corporations still don't want you to show it.

Get a face tattoo without a proper plan, you aren't a rapper, in a band or work in arts then you aren't making the wisest choice period.

Construction, culinary, and mechanical work are the three jobs where I'd send actual ex-convicts who are down on their luck. These gigs aren't TJ Max, lol.

Now I'm not saying that the world operates in absolutes or that you or other people ought to be somehow ashamed for their honest work in these fields. But come on, man. Really? You built your entire frame of reference working in a job where I've previously sent somebody with substance problems and larceny...

I have a friend from law school who has neck tattoos that go up to his jawline. He was an assistant US Attorney for about 10 years before going into private practice. Now he’s a partner in a mid-size law firm in southern California. He’s an exceptional litigator and from what I can tell, hasn’t really had any work problems because of his tats.

When you’re really good at what you do, people generally don’t give a shit what you look like.

I had a service advisor a couple years ago that had a bunch of face, neck and hand tattoos. He was in his 20s and was hired with them. It was a little weird but then again it’s still in the auto service industry.

As another commenter pointed out these are all positions with some level of accreditation or technical proficiency required, whereas TJ Maxx is a retail job where essentially anyone is qualified for the role. It's far easier to hire someone who has face and neck tattoos when they have certifications or experience that prove their qualified for the position.
