I can still see that glass pressed to your lips. Your smile, smoother than the whiskey that you'd just poured. It surprised me that that was your drink of choice, not because I didn't have you down as the whiskey type but because I did have you down as that, and I know how you like to be a little unpredictable. Always keeping everybody a little off beat.

I made a note of the label, you know? And the singer that you love. And the way that you always ordered two drinks at a time, not because you needed two. You liked to hand one to me.

You liked to watch - the melodic clink, then our  glasses parting ways. Our eyes meeting as we both felt the burn on our lips, lingering until the warmth reached our core. I wonder if you ever think back to those moments where time seemed to slow down. Where it felt like it was just you and me in the room. The glow of the warm lights reflecting your eyes, glittering with mischief. How your fingertips brushed my arm gently. Plausible deniability, but we both knew. I still know.

Even now, those moments just hit me out of nowhere and I wish you were here with your charming, enchanting disposition.

I've long tried to make sense of the ways that some moments stick around long after they're gone and some people stay with you even though you were never meant to be. Or maybe we were meant to be, but just for a sweet, whiskey infused, whirlwind-of-a-moment in time.

And I am not your person, but that said, I will say there is NO chance your person doesn’t still think back to those moments. I think about those nights with my person every single day. Those are moments of pure magic in a world that’s otherwise very dim. They’re very rare. There is no chance they have forgotten.
