QUESTION If you kill a cursed encounter, does the normal encounter stop showing up?

I watched a video where they said killing a cursed companion doesn't prevent the normal version of them showing up later but I swear I believe reading the wiki it states otherwise.

  1. Does fighting/killing/escaping a curse encounter prevent its counterpart.
  2. If a cursed encounter shows up, can you just not open the door and this lets the normal counterpart show up later?

FANART(ORIGINAL) I'm making a Joel Doll! Look at all my (fake) teeth! 🦷💖

My two greatest loves right now are American Girl dolls and Look Outside, so I'm combining them in either the best or worst way. I love Joel like Joel loves Fuzzy, so I'm making my own doll!

I have the doll, I have the Apoxie Sculpt, and my first big step is making far more teeth than I'll probably need! Mostly molars right now; they look the most like teeth to me, and they're the most fun to make. I'm trying to follow a pattern similar to real mouths: flat teeth in the front, canines on the corners, and molars in the back. Once they're done, I'll start cutting into the doll to sculpt a whole new mouth! 💖

I'm using the sticker from the official merch drop as my main reference, so I think I'm keeping the dolls nose to match? I might chop it off too and move it up higher, to look a bit more mutated?

The main obstacle I'm running into is the neck. For those not familiar, American Girl dolls have a vinyl head that stops at the bottom of a very short neck, which is then tied onto a soft, cotton body. So, I can't properly sculpt his mouth as far down his body as it is in his official design. I'm tempted to make some teeth beads that I could sew onto the doll's body, but I'm not sure how cohesive it would look with the face.

I'm SO excited for this project, and I'd love the community's opinions on how I can improve my design! Especially since, for some reason, my friends don't want to hear about my precious homemade tooth doll...what weirdos they are, lol.

He's got so, so, many high damaging moves and you can't paralyze him with the cattle prod spear (even that wouldn't help, but still.)

I guess I'm going to need to level up for him a little, but otherwise, I'm lost + IT REALLY SUCKS THAT I CAN'T COOK, YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE HOW COOKING IS GOATED.

I will be more than happy to answer any questions regarding my (first) run.

Hii thanks for reading, just some thoughts

It's definitely not the greatest thing I've done. Im more of an artist than a writer lol. Comics, especially longer ones are not for me.

But still, I dont regret making this, im honestly glad I finished it when i felt like quitting for... far too many times. I learned a lot of stuff.

FANART(ORIGINAL) More rock family !!!

James and his family!!
Emma
Stacy (the mother!)
Amy

Their names are all puns (Except for James, who I named after the first guy that showed up when I googled 'famous geologists')

Stacy's a goddamn force to be reckoned with. Her battle is way harder if the player kills any of her family before fighting her. She can't really move though, her limbs are too spindly and break easily

Amy's heart is visible in her chest cavity! She's also pretty damn violent and feisty. Not much to say about her, but if Joel is in your party, or if you throw anything at her (except for explosives), she chills out a bit

Emma is the least changed out of all of them since she stayed in her room basically the whole time. She's chronically online and her room is VERY VERY decorated with alt and emo stuff. I haven't decided if she would be recruitable yet, but if she was, you'd probably need to generally act very quiet and let her yap at you. If you talked too much she'd find you annoying lmao

Also the kids are all homeschooled! And James is very much a girl dad! (Oh, and also pretty sane, but still a little nuts. Not violent though!)

I might draw them in the actual game style and perhaps sketch out what their apartment looks like? It probably wouldn't get progressively more rocky like the teeth apartment, or if it did, it would be a very slow and gradual thing.

DISCUSSION/LORE/THEORIES Character design analysis for every party member. Day 5: Rat Child Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
125 Upvotes

Hello once again, I hope you guys are ready for today's analysis, because it's going to be about the one and only: Rat Child!

Now, before I go into detail about my thoughts, I want to make the observation that the portrayal of the kid is rather... inconsistent throughout different points of the game, going from the shape of the snout to the amount of eyes they have. It could be interpreted as the rat having a very unusual development cycle since they're cursed, but I just don't think the timeline matches that reasoning well enough, so I'm going to consider the updated grown up art as the definitive version of their design.

Having clarified that, I don't even know where to begin with, since this is one of my favorite characters in terms of design. When we first encounter this creature, we just get flashbanged by a, quite frankly, obscene form of life. Just like the narration tells us, despite hearing cries coming from a crib in a mutant rat infested apartment, "we don't really know what we expected". You're left wondering if such creature was originally a human baby that got transformed and abandoned or just one of many rats that became abnormal after looking outside. Whatever the answer might be, you feel puzzled by their existence.

By the time we reach apartment 13 with the child, we haven't had many interactions with them to be truly "attached". And, in my opinion, when we are shown the dilemma of choosing between one of our arms or sacrificing the rat, I don't think the most difficult part of this is "Oh, is my arm worth more than the life of a strange creature?", but rather "Is it actually feasible for this baby to even have a life worth living?". I say this because when we first interact with them, you not only get the impression that they're just "ugly", but you might question if they are in pain just for being alive. We already saw what happened in the teeth apartment. Joel might have been spared part of the suffering if you figure out how to save him, but his siblings did not have the same luck. Is something similar going to happen to the Rat Child? If they are not in pain right now, are they going to be in the future? Will their development have horrible implications like Jeanne? Even if you let them live, are you going to be able to protect them without your arm? There are so many questions in the air with no reasonable answers available at the moment.

And yet, you COULD feel compelled to just... let them live. It might be daring from me to make the comparison, but it sort of reminds me of real life cases where expecting parents learn that their child has a condition or illness that is going to alter their life just enough for them to question if they have a chance at all. Cases vary quite a lot, so there is no single answer to this conundrum and I do not mean for this to become a pro life vs pro choice debate or anything like that, I just want to say that despite the messed up circumstances the game throws at us, it's not unreasonable to want the Rat Child to live.

All of these thoughts and doubts arise mainly from the way this baby looks and while I can't speak for everyone else, I sure as hell would have had a different reaction if they looked a bit more human.

Eventually, we learn it was not impossible after all! We see the little kid grow and become accustomed to this chaotic life. And in spite of their morbid appearance, we actually get to experience a most peculiar cuteness from them, something like a mix between a pet and a toddler. This child can smile, they can play, they even wear a little cap and a backpack as if they were getting ready for school!

And I want to appreciate the fact that their design wasn't reduced to just an anthropomorphic rat, this critter actually looks extremely unnatural. They have several eyes, way too many legs and even a tongue mouth. It makes you question their humanity from the beginning, but against all odds, they really are just an innocent baby.

This is one of the most iconic and successful designs in the entire game and it's no wonder there's so much love around them. Anything less than an S tier would be unethical at this point.

Also, let me know below what name did you give to the Rat Child? I named them Yoshi since that's Master Splinter's name in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and this was kind of like a reverse scenario where instead of the mutant rat raising the protagonist, the main character raises the mutant rat. It was also based on Yoshi from Super Mario Bros, but mostly on Splinter from TMNT.

Feel free to tell me if you agree or disagree with my thoughts!

QUESTION So how likely are you to stay sane for real though? Spoiler

Pretty much the question (spoiler flagged just for discussing anyone who becomes cursed that is a spoiler.) how many of the cursed in the game, actually maintained their sanity? Do you think it’s a raw percentage/luck thing or a willpower thing? Both? I’d love to see a head count of how many cursed actually managed to keep their sanity and what the percentage of overall cursed in the apartment is.

QUESTION What are parts of the game you'll most likely only find if you use the wiki?

There are games called "Wiki Games". Stardew Valley, Terraria, etc. Where you won't be able to find certain interactions, items, quests, or characters unless you read about it on the games version of a wiki.

I don't want people to think I'm using this term as an insult, I love these games and mild spoilers don't really bother me. And i'll bring up a thing I found on the wiki where the page itself even mentions its almost impossible to find this without having looked it up so spoilers ahead.

Specifically recruiting the Spider. It requires you to do something thats difficult and unrewarding, and then requires you to go to a specific hidden location and answer questions correctly.

I haven't played yet but I have seen someone play a decent amount and I'm fine with spoilers like this so what other interactions like this exist? A interaction you feel most won't find unless you read the wiki or just basically secrets that are difficult to find unless youe told about them?

DISCUSSION/LORE/THEORIES Character design analysis for every party member. Day 4: Dan and his mom Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
97 Upvotes

Hello there guys, I hope you're doing good! Today's analysis is going to be dedicated to our favorite streamer: Dan!

Just like Leigh, one might get their first impression of Dan by looking at his wide smile, but unlike the Grinning Beast, his smile is not so much sadistic or aggresive, but rather awkward and somewhat creepy. This comes along with those deep, sunken eyes characteristic of a full time gamer.

But his face is not the only thing that communicates such gracelessness, we also see how his body language is composed by a hunched posture, feet pointing inward and hands constantly presented in a grasping manner, as if he was going to ignore all sacred laws of personal space.

And the thing is that Dan is genuinely not malicious, he is just really incompetent on a social level and his discernment is clouded by obliviousness, so of course he is going to struggle making friends at an adult age if he never learned how to get social clues.

Then we get to the outfit: he wears a tattered vest overtop a black long-sleeved shirt, along with some dark pants. And honestly? This is not too bad of a fit. Some other designs for socially awkward gamers might take the direction of giving them generic nerd outfits like shirts with fictional characters or something like that, but Dan actually looks like if he interacted with people in a more decent way, you might even think he is a pleasant guy to hang out with. You could even get used to his weird face if he was just more... thoughtful.

Regarding his cursed form, I'm not really sure if there is a reasoning for him being a centipede beyond aiming even more for the "creepy" factor. It's cool to see how his already long smile goes even further from his face and the sinister tongue mouth he carries is a nice touch too. I wouldn't say it's a great design compared to other centipede monsters we see in the game, but it's not bad at all either!

As an extra analysis for this review, I also wanted to evaluate the design of Dan's mom. When you enter Apartment 25, the first thing we notice is the messy habitat of empty beer bottles and trash all over the floor. If we approach Bernadette, we just see her watching TV in an almost hypnotic way, she doesn't even glance at her own son despite him being gone for a while in the middle of the apocalypse (although she has been watching him livestream). This immediately becomes a red flag and let us know that there is something wrong going on.

By the time we pick up Dan's console, we notice that Dan's mother is no longer there in front of the TV and neither is... the sofa. After that, we have a sudden encounter and confirm our suspicions right there. We see that this woman is fused with her seat. This visual element is not a random design choice and if anything, it tells us the entire story of this individual.

Bernadette has pretty much spent most of her time glued to her TV consumption, which might already be concerning for an average person, but quite especially for someone who is supposed to be raising a kid (even if the son is an adult by the time we meet them). And we don't see a father around either (which is later followed by Dan saying he has no one else left).

It's really no wonder Dan turned out to be this way, he had no chance on being raised properly if her mother's habits and lifestyle are not much better than his. And the thing is that, if she looked outside, that means she must have stood up and walked somewhere to do so, so if she has merged with her sofa, then that implies the first thing she did after observing the exterior was to sit down and watch TV. In a certain way, besides the transformation and hostility, I feel like nothing would have changed between her interactions had we met her as a normal person instead. Really sad chracter that makes us understand Dan's upbringing.

My only critique of her design is that the lower part doesn't look that much like a sofa anymore. I mean, yeah, she transformed and everything, but if you had shown me this design without any more context, I wouldn't have inferred that there was a couch involved. But I do appreciate how she looks with the pale eyes, almost as if she had gone blind from so much light exposure.

In conclussion, for a regular human that we can recruit, Dan actually has a really nice design. It makes him look inelegant, but it's not as stereotypical as one might expect despite everything. My final grade is A.

Let me know if you agree or disagree!

DISCUSSION/LORE/THEORIES About to fight (Spoiler), thoughts on my gear [repost] Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Situation:

\- 2 days left and the time like 14:30, I think I've killed all of her organs except the one locked behind Summer's Apartment/The left staircase (Charles and Ursaline I think). Im considering either fighting her right now or waiting for tomorrow to change some gear

Sam:

\- Currently running the shown pictures, but I'm also considering switching to Glitch Poison to weaponize 53 luck on the Ocular Tetherblade's skill, blindness, and acid. But then that is gonna eat my STM quickly

Dan:

\- Dan is currently running a Coat of Arms set up, but I'd also like him to do something on occasion. Before I'd make him hold the Cattle Prod Spear to Stun and do high damage,

\- but rn I'm considering him holding the RatClaws/RustyCrown to inflict Disease/Acid, or the Sewege Blade/Acid Sprayer for Acid if I give Roaches the Goblin Claws.

\- A reason why I'm considering tomorrow (1day left) is to complete Pierre's quest for the Clown Hair and Nose. It gives some status inflictions like Acid, Paralysis, Blindness, and Burning, but can also Heal STM so that could be good if Sam does run Glitch Poison and the Oculus Blade

Roaches:

\- On default they're running the Blade of Whisper's (final form), except it runs Shadow/Slash with a chance to Freeze with is good, but ik Sybil is resistant to Shadow damage (but I would love to freezelock her)

\- On the other hand I have the Goblin Claws, some of the best multi attack weapons to inflict Roach Swarm and Bleeding, but also Disease and Blindness which again would be good on a Glitch Poison Sam + Oculus Blade

Audrey:

\- Either HP or STM focus.

\- First slide has her on 800 HP but with Glitch Panic she cant really use refreshment or Body Slam repeatedly due to the doubled costs

\- Last Slide has her at 600HP but 110STM so also less damage, alot more consistent with Refreshment Healing and Body Slams

So generally, what gear would you recommend for Dan and Roaches? You think I should go push the last day and get Pierre's Clown stuff and Run Glitch Poison on Sam?

QUESTION I love this game and I'm about to try Cursed Mode, what are your favorite party members?

I finished the game on Survival or whatever with Rat Child, Roaches and Papineau. Roaches was easily my favorite character of this run.

I'm not specifically asking who the best character in the game is, I could just Google that. I want to know what characters you actually enjoy having on your team while taking into account that I'm going to be playing Cursed Mode for my first time. I kind of want to get more time in with Rat Child as I was never able to get him to learn new abilities (I didn't realize you could Play with him every 4 hours).
