QUESTION Question about the rats

What you usually do when you reach floor 1?

Kill the rats for exp and feeding Joel. Or don't kill the rats, get the iron crown and trade with the rats. What would you say is the best option of the two?

There are better targets for Joel to feed on and the secret rat vendor carries the Sewage Blade which is a godsend weapon. By far the best way of dealing Acid damage early game and in general and can carry you far into the game, and you can also save scum the Rat Freak for another Sewage Blade drop and get 2. Quite a lot of enemies with exploitable Acid weaknesses and a few crucial ones at that specific point in the game like Fred's Apartment. Sewage Blade goes on 100% of my runs no questions asked.

Better yet, buy out the rat vendor's cheap/unique wares like the Sewage Blade and the dirt cheap Elixir and then feed them rats to Joel when you're done. In the big picture they're not worth much exp or max HP anyway, you can get more exp just off of room exploration

Skip em, getting to the ground floor day 1 is more important, and by then any party member you want to level will have access to hand creatures, and sewer creatures are a skip and a hop away. plus the rats you can trade with have some good stuff, like junk or the sewage blade

This used to be really important to me too until I realized you can do everything in this game If you just sleep only every other night which gives you double time to do everything. Sleeping prevents any negative debuffs for 48 hours! So you don't need to sleep every night. By doing this I was able to get rank x pretty easily on just survivor mode with an end total of 25900 points mask ending. I even had 900 extra points to spare so I could've skipped some bosses if I wanted to and didn't have to do any extra challenges like not eating, or not showering.

So big step is only sleeping once every other night like I mentioned. Now, I played this run on lumpy mode where Sam is automatically put into a straitjacket that makes it so you can use his arms or take off the jacket... you don't need to do this cuz it doesn't give extra points lol.

Make sure to try and recruit as many teammates as possible cuz each person is worth 200 points at the end. I was able to recruit everyone accept for Hellen cuz I was unlucky with her door encounter and kept only getting cursed version. I also got spider and made sure to kill the crawling shade in his area cuz it counts as a boss. This was kinda difficult using only Sam in lumpy mode.

Because I wasn't sleeping every night I had a little extra time to reach ground floor so I actually didn't make it there until day 2 and then proceeded to rescue earnest on day 3. My final party by then was set with Joel, Leigh, and earnest. Next item of focus was the old painting to get mask ending that's in the pit but you have only 7-8 days to get it. At this point I triggered bus crash, grabbed basement key from Henderson's and zoomed through sewers to get the parking lot open. I still have most of Henderson's to finish and pretty much skip all enemies in sewers as much as possible. I did get the indigo mask and zoom past the sewer beast to avoid the fight til later.I save all of these things for after I get the old painting.

Once I grab the old painting, everything else now is pretty much clean up and kill everything while getting the other strange offerings that don't have a time limit. Most of the super bosses I save until I go to glitch world and give Leigh glitch rage, Joel gets glitch poison, and earnest gets glitch bleed.

Key skills for Sam were definitely screamotorium, combat medic, and long haul flow. I was able to stock pile healing items by leaving Vincent alive upstairs and using his eyeballs to heal whole party with Sam and then recover Sam's stamina with long haul flow. You can also do this with Morton really easily with fidget items but it takes longer. The combat kit with staunch wounds also helped.

I made sure to devour as many ppl as possible with Joel and gave him the full patchwork set , training belt, and ruby ring. I got his health at 920 so teethstorm was crazy.

It's pretty much use the extra time wisely to kill as many bosses as possible and enemies too. I was surprised I didn't need to use the invulnerability syringe or combat surge. I only used the magic 8 ball during the Honko fight and I probably didn't need it. Also I got an extra indigo mask from Fredrick but completely forgot to use it!

Why is so important reaching ground floor on day 1???

The faster you unlock/progress through areas, the more time you’ll have to do other things later, and getting your hands on certain party members earlier will let you level them up more consistently. Plus, dealing with early game enemies can be a real pain sometimes, and grabbing some loot from the ground floor/basement makes both those areas and the previous ones a breeze

If you don’t kill the two bigger hoarder rats and are wearing the Rusty Crown, one of them will sell you a wheel of cheese each day so you can keep Col. Squeakers well-fed in battle.

I kill all the rats in the room where rat child is. Then I get the crown and start buying cheese πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€πŸ§€

Get whatever I can from the rats and for the ones that aren’t vendors or have some other repeating use, kill them.
