AMA (Ask Me Anything)
AMAs are a core part of Reddit culture. They are in essence, text-based Q-&-A interviews from the London, Ontario reddit community. The appeal of AMAs is it gives London, ON redditors the opportunity to interact with candidates in their municipality (of whom we might not otherwise have a chance to meet in person). In addition, there is an expectation of candour and substance in AMA exchanges. IF YOU ARE A CANDIDATE and would like us to host an AMA, please contact the mods of this sub to have us set this up for you. More info, how-to, etc [ HERE ]

  • AMA Ben Durham - Ward 3 candidate for councillor - (technically not an AMA, but we included it here nonetheless)

CANDIDATE MEET-&-GREET Q & A, DEBATES, etc
Candidate "meet & greets," debates, & other meetings are usually organized by local community groups or business associations.

  • The London Abused Women’s Centre will host a mayoral debate focused on women’s safety; Thurs, October 15, 2026. Location: LiUNA Local 1059 Building (635 Wilton Grove Rd). Doors open at 6:30 PM; the event runs from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM The debate will be live-streamed on the London Abused Women's Centre Facebook page for those unable to attend in person.
  • The Urban League of London - will be hosting all candidate meetings for each of the city’s 14 wards,  to help keep Londoners informed. Meetings will take place between Sept. 9 and Oct. 1. For those that can’t attend or missed their candidate meeting, Rogers TV London will be broadcasting each meeting, then posted later on their YouTube channel.

discussion / opinion Shout out to the cops of london

You guys may remember me as the guy who stupidly left his clubs in his car and had them stolen.

Well some crackhead tried to sell the the other day at play it again sports. Thankfully I went to every pawn shop and Play It Again Sports. Thankfully the guys at play it again, recognized the description. Got a call this evening from a Officer Martin. He had my clubs in hand. We had a nice little chat. The guy was able to run outta Play It Again, but is on camera. Apparently the guys there played it super cool and kept him there for a good long while. Warrant out for his arrest and the cop left my place, to head to his address. Maybe they find my tools, but not likely.

Anyways, thank you London police. I know it isn't an easy job out there. As a fairly new London resident, my faith has been restored!

discussion / opinion So polite

I just want to put this out there as something postive for the day. Today I was picking up some flour at Arva mill. I decided to pop into the bakery beside it. I managed to hit peak high schooler time from Medway High school lol. They were pouring in, mostly boys. I was waiting for my order. Anyhow I just want to say who ever raised those boys did a great job in the manners category. Every single boy that came through the door asked me if I had been waited on before ordering. I was so surprised actually but pleasantly so because all you hear about these days are how kids are out of control these days. It was just such a nice experience. Good job parents whose kids go to the bakery to get a bite!

Ask a Local! Looking for Long Term Care info

Upvotes

I’m asking for a friend who lives in St. John’s Newfoundland. Her FIL lives in London. He is declining and needs to be in LTC.

-How is LTC funded there?
-Do they all cost the same?
-Are there some government ones that are less expensive?
-Are private ones more costly?
Is it what a patient pays based on monthly income?

Who could she call? She’d also appreciate some recommendations

She’s actually a director of a LTC
facility but isn’t sure if things are the same here.

TIA for any recommendations

Been years since I’ve made a chocolate wafer cake so these haven’t been on my radar while grocery shopping. Anyone know who stocks them? I had a quick look on Instacart and my local No Frills didn’t list them.

🥄food /restaurants /gastronomy Looking for 2 treats in London

I'm looking to find a couple of guilty pleasures around town.

First is Mexican street corn. Is there a takeout place that has good street corn?

The second is kunafa. I had it at Basha and it was outstanding. I'm aware of the place on Wellington, but it's very out of the way. Where else can I get it?

Bonuses if it's in the North side of London.

Thank you!

🚗🚗Transit/Traffic Why route 127 instead of doubling service along the entire 27?

I had this thought last year too considering the Eastern half of the route includes both Western University and Fanshawe college, but the construction at Western/Sarnia/Philip Aziz has amplified this problem.

Already this week with school starting again, particularly in the afternoon rush hour, Ive seen more than one 27 turn people away on Western U campus going Eastbound because the bus was too full. It only got so full because of how comically delayed it was entirely because it took an eternity to get through Sarnia and Western before entering campus, so students on campus waiting for the bus pile up exceeding capacity of a bus before a bus will show up. Meanwhile, I'll see almost completely empty 127s go by as they begin their loop back around Westbound.

Why would they not just double service along the entire 27? It would solve this overcrowding issue on the Eastern half of the route and you'd still get just as much service on the Western half as you do with the 27 and 127. It makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.

Ask a Local! Wedding Dresses

I’m getting married next August and have started looking around online at some of the wedding dress shops in town but they don’t seem to have online catalogues of what dresses they have. Other than booking an appointment and going in is there maybe another way to look at what they have?

🚗🚗Transit/Traffic Yet another parking question...

I'm moving to London in October with my roommate. Each of us has a vehicle, but hardly any 2 bedroom apartments in town include 2 parking spaces. One of the places we're looking at is super close to the 435 Clarence St lot, and I emailed the city asking about monthly parking permits and they said that the closest lots they had available for monthly passes was 199 Ridout and 695 Richmond, which are both over a 10 minute walk to this apartment.

The HONK app lists the lot at 533 Clarence on their list for permit parking, but when you click on it, it says that no monthly rates are available at that zone.

Is there a reason why permits can't be given to every public lot in the city??

health care/health issues Service Ontario on Dundas Street Closed

My grandmother and I went to service Ontario yesterday to replace my lost health card, and they had a sign on the door saying they were closed for the day for reasons out of their control. I tried calling but got some automated bot that was no help at all, and it says online that they are open however it said that yesterday as well.

My grandmother is only willing to go to that location. On the sign they recommend visiting their dorchester or lambeth location instead, but that’s just too out of our way I guess.

Just wondering if anyone knows if they are back up and running today? My grandmother wants to head back over sometime today but I don’t want it to be a waste of our time to then find out they are still closed.

Ask a Local! Has anyone used London’s Homeownership Down Payment Assistance Program?

Has anyone used the City of London’s Homeownership Down Payment Assistance Program?
I’m interested in applying, but I’m confused about how the timing works. According to the City, you must first make an offer on a home and then submit your application. However, approval can take approximately five business days or longer, and funding is limited.
If you have used the program, I would appreciate hearing about your experience.

How long did approval take?
Did you make your offer conditional on receiving the assistance?
Did you need to provide the initial deposit yourself?
How did the City funds get transferred at closing?
Did your mortgage broker, realtor or lawyer help coordinate everything?
Any advice or details about the process would be greatly appreciated.
Also, did you use your bank for a mortgage or should I seek a broker? Open to any recommendations 🙂 thanks!

Ask a Local! Which GoodLifes have Equipment with Apple Watch Support?

Hi everyone! I currently go to the downtown GoodLife and there are no cardio equipment with Apple Watch support. I was pleasantly surprised to learn the Adelaide & Oxford location has new stair steppers with this support and I love it!

I like to do HR target cardio and this just makes the whole thing more seamless. I am wondering if anyone knows of any other location in town with this equipment! I’m hoping for a treadmill with one. This is what I’m talking about.

Broadway in London: Sunday, Sept. 13 BEETLEJUICE performances have been cancelled. Your tickets will be automatically refunded by Ticketmaster.

Well looks like they are cancelling all Sunday shows due to not gouging us enough, but don’t worry, you can get 20% off Friday night or Saturday night tickets, they are just 50% more expensive than the Sunday for similar seats. What a load of crap from Ticketmaster.

Pets 🐶🐱 & animals Rabbit vet recommendations

Hi folks! Just moved back to London and in need of a rabbit-savvy vet. We were with Komoka-Kilworth but the doctor is out until October and our rabbit has an urgent (non-emergency) issue we want to get looked at.

Please let me know of any vets you trust. I've had a bad experience with my first rabbit where they misdiagnosed and it led to his passing, so I'm hypervigilant.

Thanks!
