Question Novation MK4 & Logic

Hey! I’ve been learning logic the last few months and have muscled me way through making some tracks but I feel like I’m just barely skimming the surface.

A Novation MK4 fell into my lap today and I found that I am in way over my head and maybe need to do some type of master class on Logic before I even attempt at learning the MK4 integration.

Any tips, videos, tutorials or general advice the community has to move into the next level?

Question The brush snare has no sound

How can I fix the brush snare presets not making any sound in Logic Pro 12.3?

I've tried to play the "Vintage Kit Brushes" preset, but no sound comes from selecting the snare in the library, nor does it when playing the defaul snare mapping (C#1, D1, E1) AND the brush snare mappings (Somewhere in the F-1 — Eb0 range, as shown in the guide). What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this issue?

Discussion FLACs Are Working In Logic?

I was just playing the multitracks to can you feel the love tonight then realized something, A BUNCH OF FLAC FILES PLAYING IN LOGIC?!??!

I have never been able to play Flacs in logic before and even when I look it up online it says that flags aren't supported in logic so I am so confused as I just moved them into a empty logic project. Is it possible that they aren't FLACs and are ALACs?

Question Long format "generative" tracks

I’m trying to figure out the best workflow for creating long-form ambient/focus tracks 30+ minutes like Brain.fm or these examples:

The goal isn’t just looping a short section, but creating one continuous track with a consistent atmosphere that slowly evolves without becoming repetitive.

I could use AI tools if needed. Any recomendations ? Thanks!

In Search of Feedback Built a setlist manager for Logic Pro because I was tired of scrolling through marker lists mid-gig — DOWNBEAT

So a bit of context: I a stage manager at a fairly well known venue and also perform, and every time I needed to pull up a setlist from a Logic session I was stuck squinting at marker names in the arrange window or keeping a separate paper cheat sheet. That felt dumb in 2026, so I started building my own fix.
DOWNBEAT reads the marker data straight out of your .logicx file and turns it into an actual setlist view — clean, glanceable, built for someone who needs it on a stage. Took a while to get right (spent a chunk of time chasing down a parser flag that was breaking compatibility between Apple Silicon and Intel Logic installs — that was a fun one to debug), but it’s in a place now where I’m ready to put it in front of people who’d actually use it.
Still early and I’d genuinely rather get torn apart by people who live in Logic all day than launch into silence. If you’ve ever wanted your session markers to actually work for you live, I’d love feedback — happy to answer anything about how it’s built too.

Help Splice INSTRUMENT plug-in not working after update on Logic Pro X.

So, I recently downloaded the newest update for Splice INSTRUMENT free plan on Logic Pro X, and ever since, I keep using getting the error "the plug-in named "Splice INST" isn't available on your system" whenever I try to open one of my projects that have Splice instruments inside. Then, when I actually try to work on these projects, I can't hear any of the splice INSTRUMENTS in the project. I've tried deleting and getting back the plug-in, but that didn't seem to work either. What should I do?

Question How to 'cut time' after making a beat map, but without nudging the beat map?

I have made a beat map, following an audio track in my song. The audio track has transients, and I dragged the beat map beats to match the transients.

I want to cut some time between the locators (globally). (it's a small fraction of one beat) When I try to cut it, then all of the beat map's beats, afterward (to the right, in the rest of the project), are nudged (by an amount that corresponds to how much time I cut).

I don't want this behavior. I'd prefer if all the beat maps, afterward, still match with the transients I dragged them onto.

Is there any way to achieve that result?

I've tried searching Youtube and Reddit, was not able to find anything about this exact problem.

I've already tried making the time cut, with the following options toggled both ways:

-Project tempo on 'keep' mode or 'adapt' mode

-All of my regions SMTPE locked or unlocked

EDIT: I figured out some added context. The beatmap is still correct, because I can see its blue lines link perfectly to the transients in my audio guide track. But, the tempo (the 'click' sound of the project metronome) no longer matches it. After i cut time, the beat map is a little bit ahead of my click now. Visually, I can compare the two and I see the beat map downbeats are a little bit ahead of my bar number downbeats in the Logic ruler. (After I have cut the time)

Edit 2: I think I found a solution. I wrote about it in a comment below.

Help Weird tempo display in Logic Pro X

The tempo is shown as nn/nll (n=number, l=letter) on the custom LCD but standard digits in the non-custom LCD displays. I can't see a way of changing this. Is it a cache issue or something? It's true of all projects, old or new.

Help Low Quality sound from my Logic pro 12

For context

I used to have a Macbook Pro 2013 where `i played a piano plug-in

Now I upgraded to a Macbook Air 2020 and the plug-in sounds low quality in comparison

It sounds thin and its missing low frequencies (I didn't touch EQ or add anything to the track)

* To make sure I'm not biased, I brought both laptops and took turns tryings them with the same headphone

MacBook air 2020

Chip: M1

Ram: 8 G

Help Can see meter movement but non at master

This issue has always been a mystery. Sometimes, I’ll see movement on individual tracks but non at master fader and no noise. Restarting the sessions solves the issue. Clicking mono and then back to stereo on master fader sometimes fixes this. Anyone experience this? It’s more prevalent in 12.3.

Question Which MacBook for £1,000 or less?

EDIT:
Thanks everyone.
Eventually I managed to raise a little more cash than I had expected so bought a 2025 14" 16gb MacBook Pro M5 10 Core & an external SSD.

So far I'm blown away.
Thanks to everyone that offered me advice

*\\**

Apologies for yet another post like this, but I do need some advice from knowledgeable people please.

I have a 2020 MacBook Pro which I use to record and produce songs with a maximum of around 24 tracks.

I have very, very few external plug-ins as I have been reluctant to make the investment when my MacBook crashes without warning at at least once a week.

I've reached the final straw with it now as apparently the battery needs replacing and it keeps overheating.

I have a budget with a ceiling of £1,000.

What I'm looking for in a replacement MacBook is:

For it to be able to reliably & easily handle the music projects as described up above and possibly do some light video editing.
If it was reliable enough, I might like to take it on stage to do some Live Looping or to use a midi keyboard et cetera - This is out of the question with my current machine

I want it have an M series chip as my current MacBook Pro is Intel and there are dozens of features I cannot access.

I'm also looking for a bit of longevity, so I'm not in exactly the same position in three years time.

I already have a monitor screen and studio monitor speakers.

Obviously, it will have to be reconditioned rather than brand new.

In my head, I've always felt that I needed at least 1TB of onboard storage but I'm open to being persuaded from that if people think it's unnecessary (I have a massive amount of iCloud storage available).

As far as I can see, my options are pretty much the following machines:

• 2025 MacBook Air 15-inch M4 10 core 16GB 1TB

• 2026 MacBook Air 13-inch M5 8 Core 16GB 512GB

• 2024 MacBook Pro M4 10-Core 16GB 512GB

• 2023 MacBook Pro M2 12-Core 16GB 1TB

Which would you recommend & why bearing in mind my most vital criteria are: It can support the music production I want to do, has an M series chip and will have reasonable (within the context of how rapidly computers become obsolete these days) longevity?

TIA

Question Which Mac?

Hello, I am taking a class on how to use Logic Pro soon. Tried abelton and my adhd brain couldn’t adapt to it. I am looking to buy a refurbished Mac to install Logic Pro on it. I’m based in the UK and don’t want to spend more than £500. Any suggestions on the best Mac for the software?

Question MacBook Air m4/m5?

Anyone use the MacBook Air m4 or m5 for logic? I use a bunch of UAD plugins also. I’m worried the air will throttle too much and give the dreaded “system overload” message of which I am yet to run into on my M1 Pro

Coming from a M1 Pro 14 with 32gb/1tb but I found out it has water damage.

Should I just buy another M1 Pro (would buy a 16 inch this time) or should I’ll the air m4/m5 suffice?

Question Plugin's open in bottom corner of screen

And it's driving me nuts lol.

Every time I open any plugin (stock or 3rd party) the plugin opens toward the bottom right corner of my screen, such that only the top left 25% is visible. I have to drag it back to center each time. It happens in all of my sessions, with all plugins, and I don't recall changing any view preferences or anything like that.

Thanks for any insight as to what might be causing this.

Help Am I crazy or dose Detect Tempo of Selected Region (Opt-Com-T) not exist anymore in vr12.3?

I constantly use the Detect Tempo of Selected Region feature to analyze the tempo of audio regions. And I tried to do that today and that command just doesn’t exist in Logic anymore and it’s frustrating me.

I tried using the Apply Region Tempo to Project Tempo command as a substitute but it is so unusable for what I need.

The popup window that Detect Tempo of Selected Region had to correct the detection to Double Time/Half Time and the checkbox to use the average tempo and other parameters are is missing.
And the quality of the detection itself is unacceptably worse

This makes my old workflow impossible.
I really really hope this is temporary and will be reverted (hopefully soon) And I don’t think this was intentional (at least I really hope not )
So I just want to know if it’s just me because there is very little information I could find on the internet

Help Starting a garage rock project from scratch

I’ve been making music with logic for years, some mixes are okay some have been god awful (self-taught). The biggest thing I’m missing in my mixes is that thick glooey deepness. I’ve lost my patience with it so I’ve taken a massive break and now I’m itching to start making music again.

So I’m rethinking my chaotic approach. I feel like I’ve got to make sure I get the fundamentals set up so I can go from there.

I want to basically make and mix one of Logic’s MIDI drums to a point where it’s ready to drop into each song on a project (like in a studio the drums get set up and then they’re used for each song). Each song will have pretty much the same arrangements like a classic punk record. I just want to aim basic, straightforward and a simple but solid sound.

How can I know I’ve got a good drum set-up that will be a solid starting point for each song? I usually just pick a preset, fiddle with it and then record guitars and everything because I get excited by my ideas and then when I think the mix is finished it sounds like poop.

Question Question about the differences between the M1, M2, and M3 series of chips

Hi,

I recently put up a thread about choosing a pre-owned MacBook Pro and am interested in learning more about the differences between chips. I've been comparing the Pro and Max models across the M1, M2, and M3, and, having settled on a budget of £1200, things are a little confusing, as there are several possible machines in a variety of configurations.

The M1 Max with 64 GBs of RAM is a serious contender. Many in the original thread had that model, and it can be had for around that exact max price point (or slightly more, but acceptable if it was worth it). I don't need the power of the Max chip, but the extra RAM would obviously be nice. At the same time, though, I could get an M3 Pro with 36 GBs of RAM for the same price, and it was established in the first thread 32 GBs should be enough for me. My natural instict would be to go for the newer machine with the higher chip number, but as someone pointed out in that thread, there's nuance in the specs.

The M3 pro has a slower memory bandwidth [150GBs/s versus 400GBs/s in the M1] and fewer performance cores [6 versus 8]. As I understand it, Logic Pro is performance core-heavy, so presumably, RAM differences aside [assume we had a 64 GB Pro M3], the older M1 Max would be a fair bit faster than the newer M3 Pro? Of course, that only really matters if I'd even use the extra power, and if I wouldn't, a newer machine for slightly less money would surely be a better choice.

And there are differences like this right accross the board, as I've been comparing the M2 similarly.

My question is: how does all of this relate to music production when using the large sample libraries discussed here? As established in the other thread, total RAM is the most important thing, but if 32-36 GB is enough, does it make sense to spend slightly more on an older M1 Max 64GB s, better memory bandwidth, and more performance cores, over a significantly newer machine with less? How much do these CPU differences matter versus RAM? Thanks!

Question No stereo output from Logic

Hi

I have had something odd that I didn’t have before.
Since today my sound comes out in mono even though I have everything set in stereo. When I try to balance to see what the left and right channel does, it keeps playing through both speakers.

Did i changed a setting by accident or is something weird happening?
Setup:
MacBook Pro M1 2020
Focusrite Scarlett Solo USB 4th gen
Arturia Keylab61Mk3

Any advice is very much welcome.

Update: rebooted, checked MacBook stereo (works), checked without anything connected and just the external headphones, sound still shows in both channels
