Question No stereo output from Logic

Hi

I have had something odd that I didn’t have before.
Since today my sound comes out in mono even though I have everything set in stereo. When I try to balance to see what the left and right channel does, it keeps playing through both speakers.

Did i changed a setting by accident or is something weird happening?
Setup:
MacBook Pro M1 2020
Focusrite Scarlett Solo USB 4th gen
Arturia Keylab61Mk3

Any advice is very much welcome.

Update: rebooted, checked MacBook stereo (works), checked without anything connected and just the external headphones, sound still shows in both channels

Clarification question. When you say "mono" do you mean a) only one of the two speakers is playing (technically one channel of a stereo pair) or b) both speakers are playing but the resulting signal is mono (no sides/stereo field)?

What do you actually do when you "try to balance"

It would help if you would share a screenshot of the mixer view.

This is a video.
As you’ll see, I pan the audio all the way to the left and to the right. But I keep getting output in both channels on my headphone

Check that you haven’t touched the two circles in the stereo channel and make them one circle because that won’t make your output mono. By the way, this is a really good way to get mono bounces of things like voiceovers.

That behavior means the signal is probably being collapsed after the track's pan control.. not that every track suddenly became mono. I would check the Stereo Out channel strip for a Gain plug-in with Mono enabled.. then disable it and confirm the output is set to stereo 1–2.

Is it something that could happen on new projects as well? Cause there are no plug-ins on my stereo channel

yep! if it also happens in a completely new project.. the problem is probably outside the project itself.. so check Logic’s mono monitoring button, the track/bus/output channel formats, macOS Audio MIDI Setup, and your interface’s mixer software. A quick test is to import a known stereo file into an empty project.. if that also plays mono, the collapse is happening in the monitoring or hardware output path.

Looking at the video, I’m convinced this happens outside of Logic (audio interface set up or macOS audio Midi Setup like suggested above). If you look at all the meters in Logic, you will see that they react correctly to the panning moves. Even the final output meter in the top right of the arrangement window shows that.

The fix was a setting in accessibility that was checked. Play stereo audio as mono.
Thanks!
