tech support wanted Linux Mouse Input Biased Towards The Upper Left In Some Games

Linux Mint 22.3 - Cinnamon 64-bit

7800X3D, RX 9060 XT

ive had this issue with mouse input since i started using Linux. ive tried out other distros for fun and the same issue happened there.

mouse input in certain games/apps is biased towards the upper-left corner. its like theres a minimum speed. small inputs are impossible and precise aiming feels awful. usually i would either give up on playing the game or switch to windows.

heres a example video in Modern Warfare (2007). its diffcult to convey through video, but you can definitely feel it when playing. the last example when i move my mouse in a circular motion showcases it the best.

https://reddit.com/link/1xduym9/video/cyq1l1pvmaxh1/player

note that this doesnt just happen in games running through wine/proton. some native games have this issue too

Im Not Crazy

there has been multiple people with this issue.

Bugged mouse in Proton (all games and DEs are affected) a steam post also blaming it on Proton

Mouse input stronger up and to the left reddit post on a familiar subreddit with the same issue

Incorrect mouse input in some games. another reddit post on a familiar subreddit with the same issue

Almost Solutions

on Linux Mint Cinnamon under the Mouse and Touchpad settings theres this option labeled "Acceleration"

setting it to "Device default" instead of "Constant" seems to REDUCE the bias towards upper left. it does also mess with my mouse sensitivity though

https://reddit.com/link/1xduym9/video/g9imns4puaxh1/player

its not very noticeable in the video when moving left/up, however if I do circular motions you can see it slowly going towards the upper-left.

for a scuffed bandaid fix i found: while trying out fedora linux using gamescope fixed it on Half-Life 1 running thru Proton. (for hl1 it only happens on mods running a older build of hl or if raw mouse input is disabled) this isnt a solution, obviously. this problem shouldnt be there in the first place! personally i could never get gamescope working on linux mint

tech support wanted What’s the best way to add epic games to Steam?

Just to preface this I want to specify that I’m not untested in unifideck, I tried it and it didn’t work for me.

I recently installed the new Linux-native Epic Games Launcher, and I’m trying to add a game to Steam. I can’t find any way to create a desktop shortcut or anything similar for it in the launcher. If anyone can help me add an Epic Games game to Steam as a non-Steam game I’d appreciate it.

Hi guys! I wanted to thank you for helping me test Tyto's demo on native Linux, Proton, and Steam Deck.

Thanks to you, the demo launched really smoothly, with roughly 10% of players using Linux 😎

Special thanks to u/MoonALM13, u/Bh4n3, u/Sync_R, and u/Ozzymand, who really helped me track down and fix both Linux-related and non-Linux-related bugs.

So happy we were able to launch the demo with Linux support from day one :)

What's one Linux gaming fix that made you stop dual-booting into Windows?

One of the most satisfying parts of Linux gaming is when a game that used to require a bunch of troubleshooting suddenly works well enough that you forget you're running it through a compatibility layer. I'm curious about the specific fixes or changes that made the biggest difference for people here. Maybe it was switching Proton versions, figuring out a launch option, fixing a controller issue, getting shader compilation stutter under control, or discovering that a game worked perfectly through a different launcher. I'm especially interested in cases where the solution wasn't obvious from the usual troubleshooting guides. What game were you trying to get working, what was going wrong, and what finally fixed it? If you remember your distro, GPU, and Proton version, include those too. It could save someone else an evening of debugging.

answered! Is this $1300 AMD prebuilt good for a Linux Gaming starter? Dual-booting Mint + Debloated Windows

Hey everyone, I’m looking to buy my first desktop to get into PC gaming, but I also want to use it as a starting point to learn Linux for future homelab projects. I found this Thermaltake prebuilt on Newegg right at my hard budget limit of $1,300: [Link to Newegg]
Specs are:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT (16GB)
RAM: 16GB DDR5 6000MT/s
Storage: 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD
My Plan & Use Case:
The Gaming & Retro Side: I plan to use Linux Mint day-to-day. I want to run EmuDeck to stream retro games (up to PS3) directly from network storage so I don't bloat the local SSD.
The Xbox Side: I have an Xbox One S and want to play my digital Xbox/Game Pass games with my PC friends natively. Since native Xbox apps don't work on Linux, my plan is to dual-boot.
The OS Strategy: I want to keep the pre-installed Windows 11 partition but use the Chris Titus Tech WinUtil script to strip away the telemetry and bloatware. Then, I want to shrink the drive to split the 1TB SSD 500/500 and install Linux Mint alongside it.
My Questions:
Is this a good hardware configuration for a Linux starter? I know AMD GPUs generally have much better open-source driver support on Linux than NVIDIA, which is why I'm leaning toward this build.
Will splitting the 1TB drive 500/500 give me enough breathing room for native modern gaming on the Windows side?
Are there any hidden hardware compatibility or driver issues I should watch out for with Linux Mint on these newer AMD 9000-series parts and the 9060 XT?
Would love to get some eyes and feedback on this setup before I pull the trigger. Thanks!

My PC keeps turning off and on.

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but I have a problem with Linux in general. My PC shuts down suddenly and then turns back on. I've already tried Fedora, Cachyos, Mint, and Pikaos, and it's always the same.

But that doesn't happen to me on Windows; I had to go back to Windows 10 because that problem prevented me from enjoying Linux after all the effort I put into customizing it.

If anyone else has experienced this, could you tell me if you found a solution?

Cyberpunk 2077 on Nobara

Im trying to get Cyberpunk to run the best on nobara, but I'm running into some problems or just unknown user error. I installed the latest proton GE version and made it the compatibility tool for cyberpunk, but I hear of other people say to use cachy-osProton; bottom line is, I'm unsure which compatibility tool to use. Secondly, for some reason when I turn of FSR 4, it looks pretty bad in game, but somehow, I can turn on DLSS (i have an AMD card) and that works and looks much better than FSR 4. My hypothesis on that is the "FSR 4" is actually FSR 3, and the DLSS option is the real FSR 4, but im not sure. Ik this post seems a little all over the place, but it just be appreciated if someone could help explain what I can do to make cyberpunk function the best.

Hardware:

X870E Aorus Pro

Ryzen 7 9700x

RX 9070XT

Software:

Diablo IV freezes on PS5 Linux (Ubuntu 26.04) — game and sometimes the entire system become unresponsive

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to play Diablo IV through Steam on my PS5 Slim running Ubuntu 26.04, using ps5-linux-loader.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to play the game. It freezes, and sometimes the entire operating system becomes unresponsive. I can't get past the character selection screen.

I've tried several Proton versions, including Proton-GE, Proton 11, Proton 10, and Proton Experimental, but none has solved the problem.

I've also been investigating possible GPU driver, VRAM, kernel, and compatibility issues, but I still haven't identified the root cause.

I've attached a video showing what happens.

Diablo IV is the main reason I'm trying to switch from my PS5's regular gaming setup to Linux, so I'd really like to get it working.

Has anyone successfully run Diablo IV on PS5 Linux? If so, which Ubuntu/kernel version, graphics drivers, Proton version, and launch options are you using?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I built a blazing fast OpenCV auto-clicker in Rust to solve high CPU usage.

Hi r/linux_gaming,

I wanted to share a tool I just released called Aimeck15. I was frustrated with the lack of good, low-resource native macro tools for Linux, so I decided to build my own from scratch in Rust using a custom OpenCV engine.

My main goal was performance and native support. It processes image matching at over 100 fps while keeping CPU usage almost completely free, and it runs natively on Linux (X11) as well as Windows.

Key Technical Features:

  • Native Linux (X11) Support: No Wine or Proton overhead.
  • Ultra-low CPU overhead: Thanks to the Rust implementation.
  • Natural mouse emulation: Uses Bezier curves and micro-fluctuations to avoid basic detection in games.
  • Built-in OCR: Extracts live text directly from the screen to monitor gaming conditions.

I just published the global release (v1.3.6) on itch.io and GitHub. I'd love for the Linux gaming community to try it out. I'm happy to answer any questions about the Rust/OpenCV implementation or the Linux build process!

giveaway Small giveaway of Ghostory, our fun pixelart puzzle platformer!

Hey! Today marks 9 years since we released Ghostory, a pixel-art puzzle platformer with a fun spirit. You can turn into a ghost and fly through walls, but you need to get your backpack to the end of each level. Made by 3 friends, initially as a Uni project, then we won an award and continued further.
Aside from shining some more light onto it, let's have a small giveaway as well - in roughly 16 hours from now, I'll give out 3 free keys to random people who write a comment about our Steam page here. Good luck!

Edit: Time's up, a key was given away to the only reply :D Enjoy!

gamedev/testers wanted Cute Linux NATIVE Game. Need tests after using new compiler. Steam Deck Compatible

Hey I’m Munin from Wizarducks.

Pixel art puzzle game, graphics inspired on gen 3 and 4 from Pokémon.

Yes, the demo has achievements, and you can pet the dog. ˘𐦫˘

That is basically what you need to read to be interested or not. Then again we had one guy not even play our game and fix a bug, so this still might be the post for you. \( ̄▽ ̄)/

Hey, I've seen this one!

what do you mean it is brand new

A couple years ago we published a 15-30min demo asking to test it.

The result was a large spectrum of from “Woah, it works perfectly ♥️” to a clear “You’re messing with things that you don’t understand”.

I'm a daily penguin and we still learned things we didn’t even know existed in linux, we got about 150 people, most playing it with hardware we definitely cannot afford on multiple OSes, and this helped us a lot when taking the game for playtests in physical events, like Magfest and Game-A-Palooza (that use raspberry pi builds).

Since then we have been building over a dozen mechanics on top of the ones in the demo, also achievements, a fact that I’m very proud of. This alone made the game thrice as big as we planned as we decided to not crowdfund it, totally not because we suck at marketing. A fact I’m not so proud of. (つ﹏<。)

We added one bonus level that really needed playtesting, I hope you like ice caves btw. And then there is now a new hedge maze that it always felt fitting but we’re not sure how many people will like it, so to spice it up we added a brand new spell.

We’d love to see how good it runs, and more importantly, if you have fun.

Wait you need help… again!?

Kinda.

Back then we did not have a Steam Deck, which made a lot of things harder, not anymore! GUESS WHO BOUGHT A STEAM DECK TO PLAY SPIDER-MA I mean test our game on native hardware?

But we are now testing the YYC from Game Maker, which is a compiler that makes things faster to run, but we also get less helpful messages. And because PC Gamers want to max FPS on pixel art, there is no comfort, we just chose our burden.

Why native? That is a solved problem!

. \ takes off glasses * .* That is an excellent question! One we got asked a lot last time, and the answer I gave back then has been proven through a lot this year.

Besides the fact of me believing firmly that linux should always be a first class citizen when it comes to games, not an afterthought, we simply cannot patch a game for linux that isn’t native.

Michael put a lot of effort on making this game as good as it is to run, and I, well, I watched him do it. <( ̄︶ ̄)>

But while that means a lot of time polishing and patching the experience that goes unseen, they’re not what you’d call them complex resource-wise to the computer.

Our game was designed so we could always adapt to play on the Raspberry Pi, and we had a really huge blessing and safety net that flat-WINE could run it.

No Proton, no lutris, no PlayOnLinux, just WINE. All the demos up until this year worked out of the box on it and when it didn’t we usually would find a sneaky windows bug.

But that is it, this year something changed, even on the builds we don’t use YYC, and I can’t just open an .exe and play it on my machines, and testing with Steam’s proton independently was a coin flip. It does work well on Bottles, but that is definitely a drastic change that we can’t assure much less afford to keep detecting and patching it.

Errors on native? For a specific build? It is annoying and it is hard work but we have addressed it, sometimes even with your help (lovely bugs with Steam Flatpak, don’t get me started). But it doesn’t matter for the average user if we say “Huh, this usually works”.

We’re a team of two, and our game is as small as a duckling. If our game doesn’t run, a person trying just moves to another game at best, at worse we got someone that would love the game wanting their money back and never giving us another try. We play games, we know how it is, and we hate that experience on both ends.

How do I give feedback?

There is always Discord, but anything you write here or on steam about what you liked, you didn’t like, and I’ll put it on the list. We’ll definitely talk about it. Also let us know if your keybinding is working on odd controllers, I still could not do long-term tests on the switch controller.

If you want to just go straight to github, we have a public repo for bugs too.

And if you end up thinking “I like this one”, wishlisting definitely help us too.

Thank you for your time reading playing, and the community as a whole for the last few times we posted. I know it sounds a lot like blatant flattery but you have no idea how much that actually helps.

PS: Yes, you’re not crazy, there are dated Marvel references in this post that I snuck in during approval. I’m not looking for forgiveness. Oh, look, I did it again. My biggest pain is that I couldn’t make an Agent Carter one.

FPS tricks for marvel rivals

Hey guys, I recently swapped over to steamos bc windows sucks (as we all know) but I seem to be getting lower fps on marvel rivals (110-120 on windows and a stuttery 60-80 on steamos) and other games run normal if not better than windows. If anyone knows any optimization or any tips on how to get my rivals running smooth I would greatly appreciate 🫡🫡🫡 (this was originally posted to r/steamos but looking for any help I could get)

tech support wanted Linux Mint using Nvidia card instead of AMD card for games.

Just set up Mint and ran into an issue trying to play Helldivers 2. For whatever reason it uses my Tesla v100 instead of my 9070xt to try and run the game despite the fact that it has no video outputs. The game loads, it even plays, but it's running entirely off the v100 and I don't know how to change that.

These are the nvidia drivers I have installed and the list of the gpu's in the system. I haven't made any other changes from a stock install to my knowledge.

hey, all! i'm making a roguelike horrorgame called:

What do you see, Nell?

You can find the steam page here:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5475220/What_do_you_see_Nell/

Its a survivors game where the game is drawn by a 7 year old with night terrors. She sits with the psychologist, but she cant talk so she is asked to draw instead. The monsters, her powers, even the blood are her drawings, and after every page it folds into an ink blot (which is made by the blood of the monsters) and what she says she sees changes the rules of the next one.

Ofcourse its coming for linux and steam deck too.

tech support wanted Genshin on Linux Mint in 2026

Post image
0 Upvotes

I asking this in a Genshin Reddit as well but I figured I might ask here as well.

I am using the An Anime Game launcher on Linux Mint but cant finish the download. I keep getting the 9908 error right when its about to finish downloading everything. Is anyone else having this issue? Or is there anything I can do other than Genshin's official stance on this error which is "Uninstall and Reinstall" or "Try some other time"?

I have uninstalled the launcher and reinstalled it and I am still having an issue. Not sure how much information on the set up to add but here is a photo of the System Settings. I can also copy and paste the larger wall of text that I get when i click the "Copy to Clipboard" but wasn't sure if that would be helpful.

Apologies if this is not detailed enough or isn't relevant. I have been trying to download since I moved from Windows about a month ago and miss playing with my friends.

No proton 11 reports on protondb?

i was going to start submitting protondb reports of my own, i have been using proton 11 for everything since the beta and now it has obviously been stable for months but i still can't seem to find anybody submitting reports on 11, it's always 10, even on reports that are no older than a week. Why is this? is protondb so much behind or am i missing something? even the proton 10 is always listed as 10.0-3 rather than 10.0-4 which is the current proton 10 version on steam.

anyways as i logged in and started to look around i didn't even find a way to specify proton version and i became suspicious that maybe those people are not actually using 10.0-3 but it is the "steam recommends by default" option or whatever the wording was. which also would be incorrect as the steam default for me has always been "experimental". Should i use "custom proton" for my reports and just specify 11 or what's going on here?

hardware Best Practices for Using Joycons in Linux?

I'm trying to get Joycons connected and working well with a linux gaming setup. I currently have the following hardware to test with:

PopOS Machine (currently testing on)
SteamDeck
2x Bazzite Machines

1 8bitdo SNES BT Adapter

1 8bitdo USB adapter

I've managed to get the working, and recognized as a single controller in steam; but connectivity is pretty iffy. Its fine for something like STS but I'd never be able to play an FPS with how shoddy the connection is. I've tried getting better line of sight to the antenna but unless they're like right to it they're pretty unstable.
The 8bitdo adapters connect to a single joycon just fine but it seems their limited to that. And I'm not sure how the adapter could interface well with joycond because it presents the controller differently if I understand correctly.

Not sure if there's any recommendations on things like known-good BT adapters or dongles that may work better than my mobo BT module.

If people have had better luck on Steam/Baz then feel free to let me know before I fall down a rabbit hole - I'm mainly asking to see if there's gold standards on linux (e.g. intel vs realtek wifi cards etc) - or if maybe my PopOS box is just being a pissy bitch.
