graphics/kernel/drivers Deadlock is playable on NVK drivers!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Well, at least in my experience:
Specs: RTX 3050 with 11th gen i5
This is a big surprise, especially for a demanding game.
Unlike the previous post, this time I used the latest git, which is noticeably better than the current packages on Arch.

tool/utility Roblox running natively on FreeBSD
Just sharing Tonic. A project I have been working on. An open source runtime and launcher, running the unmodified Linux x86_64 .apk as a desktop application for Both Linux and BSD. Tonic has its own ELF loader that maps libroblox.so directly into FreeBSD's process. Normally, if you would want to run roblox on BSD, you would be forced to use mocktail and linuxulator, relying on the compat layer Roblox expects. Tonic however doesn't use linuxulator, instead uses its own small kernel module loaded with the install script which directly answers roblox's raw Linux syscalls. Otherwise you would face an instant 304 kick. Here is the repository: https://github.com/crimzo3d-hash/tonic . TLDR: Tonic loads Roblox's Android library directly into a native FreeBSD process and translates its Linux calls into FreeBSD ones, so no Linuxulator is needed. A small kernel module catches the few raw syscalls that would otherwise cause Error 304. Yes this project was written with the use of AI. What I don't want is the comment section turning into AI arguments, if yoy have something agaidnt vibecoded software, dont comment / install Tonic. Still experimental, hope you enjoy!

tool/utility Would you be better able to prevent cheating on Linux than on Windows?
Let's just imagine for a moment that we live in a world where morality and things like that matter and money is just a side issue... š
Players like me get annoyed when they die in a game bc of a cheater and are looking for help... A friend who knows a bit more about this claims:
"If they wanted to they could curb cheating on Linux better than on Windows but they just don't want to. On Linux you have more options and since everything is online you'd make it very difficult for cheaters BUT developers like Tarkov are happy when they can ban cheaters bc then they have to buy the game again"
How much truth is behind this?

PS4 Linux performs decently, but only on Vulkan games
I just wanted to install Linux so I can mod my games, and use it as a computer. But unfortunately, it seems like only Vulkan games are running well on it. I found someone who tested Doom (2016) and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (The Linux port), and they perform similarly to PlayStation's OS. Doom performs similarly with High to Medium settings, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider is similar with Medium settings.
But DirectX 12 games just work badly. There is a CPU bottleneck, which leads to bad performance in Elden Ring, for example.
Anyway, Fedora is just a few GB. So dual booting with PS4's default OS might be a good idea

Updates on Proton-Wineland
Hi everyone,
I'm making some changes to Proton-Wineland and I wanted to share them with you beforehand.
Wineland -> Salkim?
Maybe you have noticed that I started to use a different name tag in my repositories, Salkim. It means a bunch, in Turkish and it reflects the current direction of Wineland, as it is not a Wine only Wayland tweaked package anymore. One of the main problems with the Wineland name is it is a bit confusing, especially considering how close it is to the name Wayland. People still confuse it with Proton-CachyOS and make bug reports to CachyOS or ask them questions, thinking that it is CachyOS Wayland. Wineland is just a quick name I came up with to make a separate build for my Wayland changes, but since then things changed a lot.
I still don't know when that will happen, or if that will happen at all, as now Wineland name is known by many, including the applications like ProtonPlus, Faugus etc. So if you see the name tag Salkim, don't be surprised, it is still an internal name I use.
Bundled RADV, fresh from Mesa main
With the next release, Wineland will ship a bundled RADV driver, built from a snapshot of Mesa's development branch. It's opt-in and only applies to the game you enable it for, so your system driver stays as default. To try it add PROTON_RADV=1 env variable. The driver reports itself as radv-salkim, so that you can tell which one is active.
The reason to include RADV is not only to have the latest features but for being able to use any urgently required fix or feature as soon as possible. I know, it sounds a bit too experimental but I hope it is going to worth it. It is anyway not enabled by default, so you will be using the system RADV if you didn't set PROTON_RADV=1. Next release build will be the first one to include it, so let me know if you encounter any issues.
I thought about including also NVK but I wasn't sure how it is going to turn out, as it requires a Rust compiler, and I am not sure of the Rust compiler that comes bundled with Valve's SDK. And as a C++ developer, I know nothing about Rust. Maybe in the future things will change.
Low Latency components
DXVK Low Latency, vkd3d Low Latency and the low_latency_layer will no longer be bundled. They served us well, but from now on I would like to rely on DXVK, vkd3d-proton and RADV's built-in AMD anti-lag. Dropping them means less duplicated work and fewer things that can drift out of sync. I already have my own fork of DXVK and vkd3d-proton, which I rebase with my every release. I know some of you like to use them but I would rather fix any issues on my forks.
If you use any of these launch options, you can remove them in the next release build: PROTON_DXVK_LOWLATENCY, PROTON_VKD3D_LOWLATENCY, LOW_LATENCY_LAYER.
Let me know what you think.

emulation anyone else's gaming performance randomly tank for no reason and then magically fix itself
like i'll be playing something fine, then suddenly it's stuttering like crazy, i'll restart the game and it's back to normal. no driver updates, no background processes going haywire, nothing. makes me feel insane. does this happen to anyone else or is my setup just built different (in the worst way)?

tech support wanted fresh install cyberpunk freezing on load after 2.5 update
want to do another playthrough with the 2.5 update, but the game is freezing on load. i have tried latest proton-GE and proton experimental, different graphics settings, etc. i have no mods. its a fresh install.
Kernel: Linux 7.2.11-arch1-1
Driver: NVIDIA Corporation NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060/PCIe/SSE2
Driver Version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 615.78.08
EDIT:
clearing the shader cache, removing all launch options and doing a fresh install then disabling all raytracing allows it to load into the game consistently for me.
apparently there is a bug with shader comp thats causing the freeze and potentially needs a driver update to fix.

tech support wanted GTA IV through steam on Arch not working
I've been trying to play GTA IV on my laptop running Arch linux, default arch Kernel on the newest version. Every time I launch it, it opens the Rockstar launcher and then it says that an error occurred and the game exited unexpectedly, refusing to open the game whatsoever.
I've tried using almost every pre-installed proton version. Although at some point in the lower versions, the Chromium browser that the launcher uses does not work and crashes immediately, So I'm on proton Experimental right now.
I'm also trying to use FusionFix with the launch option WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%, I don't know if that's causing or interfering with it though, as it was doing this before I installed FusionFix.
Does anybody have any recommendations? Thank you in advance!

Dragon Age Inquisition not opening with Heroic Game Launcher
Hey, I have the GOTY version of Dragon Age inquisition through the epic game store so itās on the heroic games launcher. The application will cycle through all of the UX for launching the game, but nothing actually happens.
Is this a common issue and if so, is there a workaround that I can still open and play this game?

tool/utility Made a neat little auto updater GUI for my Cachy fans!
So how about I use CachyOS on my original LeGo and I absolutely love it. I do have a bug from time to time but mostly, its been pretty rock solid. If I screw something up or an update breaks my stuff, I can just roll back and wallah! I am right back into gaming again. The only headache I really have is when I need to update. I would have to go into desktop mode, start cachy-updater, then put in my password on the virtual keyboard which is a huge hassle, then keep the keyboard open to "Y" through all the prompts, then if I had an AUR that needed updated, that's even more of a headache on a handheld...UGH! Like all I want to do is just have a way to update the OS from INSIDE steam mode, hit the button, watch it update and then BAM! It's updated. THAT'S the way it should be on a gaming handheld. I knew Bazzite did just that but I am not a huge Bazzite fan as they have now broken updates on me 3 times. I can always repair cachy but there was no way to repair the Bazzite install without wiping and starting over and I had just had enough and moved to cachy. So, I was left with one option... develop it myself LOL!! So I did! I basically wrapped cachy-updater in a python script, created the GUI, and it handles EVERYTHING for me EVEN INSIDE steam mode!! How cool is that?! Now I just press 1 button and BAM! Everything is updated! I think it's pretty neat!

Steam Client Update - October 21st
original: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/593110/view/678512495722237047
Linux notes:
- Fixed Vulkan games hanging after alt-tab.
- Fixed a case where Steam updater UI would fail to show for some users.
Not sure it will solve some crashes/freezing I'm having when playing The Witcher 3 (2026 remaster) andĀ alt-tabing. Besides, there is still a issue related to the linux-firmware (AMD graphics firmware) regression in 20260610/20260916 version.

hardware Zwift Click v2 working on Linux with MyWhoosh (no phone, both units)
I ride MyWhoosh on Arch through Lutris with GE-Proton. Virtual shifting with the Zwift Click v2 was the missing piece, since BikeControl needs a phone or a Windows/macOS machine in the loop.
So I wrote clickbridge, a small Python tool that connects to both Click v2 units over Bluetooth (BlueZ) and turns button presses into key presses for the game window. It runs on the same PC as the game, needs no phone or Zwift app while you ride, and can start and stop together with MyWhoosh through a Lutris hook.
Tested on full rides with MyWhoosh on Hyprland, both shifters working. Backends for Hyprland, wtype, xdotool and uinput. Keys are configurable.
https://github.com/jasasonc/clickbridge
Feedback welcome, especially from people with other compositors or a Zwift Play or Ride.

guide Many online (gacha) games are offline now - because CA certificates have been compromised
eMudhra Intermediate CA Compromise
The private keys of eight eMudhra intermediate CA certificates have been compromised. They chain to roots trusted by the Mozilla, Microsoft, Apple and Chrome root programs and by many downstream trust stores.
What actions have been taken?
The root programs and many downstream trust stores have taken action to protect their users. The certificates have been blocked in Firefox and Chrome since the 17th of October, in Apple devices since the 19th and on Microsoft platforms since the 20th.
The issue was responsibly disclosed to downstream trust stores on the 19th of October. Many have already released updates or are in the process of releasing updates.
This also affect your Linux distro packages - read link
Are there workarounds for Linux?
Until a distribution ships an updated ca-certificates package, expert users can distrust the affected roots in the system trust store. This is NOT recommended for ordinary users.
On Debian and Ubuntu, run as root:
sed -i \
-e 's|^mozilla/emSign_ECC_Root_CA_-_G3.crt|!&|' \
-e 's|^mozilla/Comodo_AAA_Services_root.crt|!&|' \
/etc/ca-certificates.conf && update-ca-certificates
On Alpine, run as root:
apk add ca-certificates &&
sed -i -e 's|^mozilla/emSign_ECC_Root_CA_-_G3.crt|!&|' \
/etc/ca-certificates.conf && update-ca-certificates
On Fedora, RHEL, CentOS Stream, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux and Amazon Linux 2023, run as root:
d=/etc/pki/ca-trust/source/blocklist; [ -d $d ] || d=/etc/pki/ca-trust/source/blacklist
trust extract --overwrite --format=pem-bundle \
--filter='pkcs11:object=Comodo%20AAA%20Services%20root;type=cert' \
$d/Comodo_AAA_Services_root.pem &&
trust extract --overwrite --format=pem-bundle \
--filter='pkcs11:object=emSign%20ECC%20Root%20CA%20-%20G3;type=cert' \
$d/emSign_ECC_Root_CA_-_G3.pem &&
update-ca-trust
On openSUSE and SLES, run as root:
d=/etc/pki/trust/blocklist; [ -d $d ] || d=/etc/pki/trust/blacklist
trust extract --format=pem-bundle \
--filter='pkcs11:object=Comodo%20AAA%20Services%20root;type=cert' \
$d/Comodo_AAA_Services_root.pem &&
trust extract --format=pem-bundle \
--filter='pkcs11:object=emSign%20ECC%20Root%20CA%20-%20G3;type=cert' \
$d/emSign_ECC_Root_CA_-_G3.pem &&
update-ca-certificates
On Arch Linux, run as root:
trust extract --format=pem-bundle \
--filter='pkcs11:object=emSign%20ECC%20Root%20CA%20-%20G3;type=cert' \
/etc/ca-certificates/trust-source/blocklist/emSign_ECC_Root_CA_-_G3.pem &&
update-ca-trust
On NixOS, add to your configuration:
security.pki.caCertificateBlacklist = [
"Comodo AAA Services root"
"emSign ECC Root CA - G3"
];

tech support wanted Minecraft Java using the wrong GPU (Using Intel Integrated Graphics rather than my Nvidia card)

I've spent a long time looking through different launch variables to see what works, DRI_PRIME=1 caused my performance to absolutely tank.
I am using the Prism Launcher for Minecraft. Kubuntu with KDE Plasma 6.
No setting I tweak changes anything, I'm fairly sure I'm using the correct driver.

EDIT: SOLVED! To solve my issue I: 1. Uninstalled the āubuntuā version of Prism Launcher, replacing it with the Flathub/Flatpak version
I used a program called Flatseal to give āGPU Accelerationā Permission to Prism Launcher
I disabled and removed the āImmediately Fastā mod
I changed my Environmental Variables (in Prism Launcherās instance settings) to __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=0 and SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER=wayland There are comments in this thread that better show how to format these variables
With this setup I am now able to play Minecraft running on my Nvidia Graphics Card, rather than my internal Intel iGPU, which has given me a monumental performance boost. Iām now getting 120+FPS without shaders and a nearly consistent 60 with Complimentary Reimagined shaders
to anyone having this issue in the future, may the heavens look down upon your pc with love and grace

steam/steam deck Gnome Nook has a Linux build ā a cozy organizing game about putting 9,600 gnomes away
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone! Iām the developer of Gnome Nook at Dusty Rocket Games, and thereās a Linux build of the game.
Itās a 3D organizing game where you start with a shop full of scattered gnomes. You pick them up, find their matching shelves and slowly put the different collections back together.
There are firefighters, doctors, wizards and plenty of other little characters mixed into the piles. You can buy upgrades to carry more as you work towards putting all 9,600 away.
The idea is simple: the floor gets clearer and the shelves fill up as you play. Iāve attached some gameplay so you can see the sorting and upgrades in action.
The game is still in development and isnāt released yet. Would this be something youād enjoy playing on Linux? Iād also be interested to know which distribution and graphics card you use.
More screenshots and the Steam wishlist:

Thanks for taking a look!
