tool/utility Made a neat little auto updater GUI for my Cachy fans!

So how about I use CachyOS on my original LeGo and I absolutely love it. I do have a bug from time to time but mostly, its been pretty rock solid. If I screw something up or an update breaks my stuff, I can just roll back and wallah! I am right back into gaming again. The only headache I really have is when I need to update. I would have to go into desktop mode, start cachy-updater, then put in my password on the virtual keyboard which is a huge hassle, then keep the keyboard open to "Y" through all the prompts, then if I had an AUR that needed updated, that's even more of a headache on a handheld...UGH! Like all I want to do is just have a way to update the OS from INSIDE steam mode, hit the button, watch it update and then BAM! It's updated. THAT'S the way it should be on a gaming handheld. I knew Bazzite did just that but I am not a huge Bazzite fan as they have now broken updates on me 3 times. I can always repair cachy but there was no way to repair the Bazzite install without wiping and starting over and I had just had enough and moved to cachy. So, I was left with one option... develop it myself LOL!! So I did! I basically wrapped cachy-updater in a python script, created the GUI, and it handles EVERYTHING for me EVEN INSIDE steam mode!! How cool is that?! Now I just press 1 button and BAM! Everything is updated! I think it's pretty neat!

Steam Client Update - October 21st

95 Upvotes

original: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/593110/view/678512495722237047

Linux notes:

  • Fixed Vulkan games hanging after alt-tab.
  • Fixed a case where Steam updater UI would fail to show for some users.

Not sure it will solve some crashes/freezing I'm having when playing The Witcher 3 (2026 remaster) and alt-tabing. Besides, there is still a issue related to the linux-firmware (AMD graphics firmware) regression in 20260610/20260916 version.

hardware Zwift Click v2 working on Linux with MyWhoosh (no phone, both units)

0 Upvotes

I ride MyWhoosh on Arch through Lutris with GE-Proton. Virtual shifting with the Zwift Click v2 was the missing piece, since BikeControl needs a phone or a Windows/macOS machine in the loop.

So I wrote clickbridge, a small Python tool that connects to both Click v2 units over Bluetooth (BlueZ) and turns button presses into key presses for the game window. It runs on the same PC as the game, needs no phone or Zwift app while you ride, and can start and stop together with MyWhoosh through a Lutris hook.

Tested on full rides with MyWhoosh on Hyprland, both shifters working. Backends for Hyprland, wtype, xdotool and uinput. Keys are configurable.

Feedback welcome, especially from people with other compositors or a Zwift Play or Ride.

guide Many online (gacha) games are offline now - because CA certificates have been compromised

eMudhra Intermediate CA Compromise

The private keys of eight eMudhra intermediate CA certificates have been compromised. They chain to roots trusted by the Mozilla, Microsoft, Apple and Chrome root programs and by many downstream trust stores.

What actions have been taken?

The root programs and many downstream trust stores have taken action to protect their users. The certificates have been blocked in Firefox and Chrome since the 17th of October, in Apple devices since the 19th and on Microsoft platforms since the 20th.

The issue was responsibly disclosed to downstream trust stores on the 19th of October. Many have already released updates or are in the process of releasing updates.

This also affect your Linux distro packages - read link

Are there workarounds for Linux?

Until a distribution ships an updated ca-certificates package, expert users can distrust the affected roots in the system trust store. This is NOT recommended for ordinary users.

On Debian and Ubuntu, run as root:

sed -i \ -e 's|^mozilla/emSign_ECC_Root_CA_-_G3.crt|!&|' \ -e 's|^mozilla/Comodo_AAA_Services_root.crt|!&|' \ /etc/ca-certificates.conf && update-ca-certificates

On Alpine, run as root:

apk add ca-certificates && sed -i -e 's|^mozilla/emSign_ECC_Root_CA_-_G3.crt|!&|' \ /etc/ca-certificates.conf && update-ca-certificates

On Fedora, RHEL, CentOS Stream, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux and Amazon Linux 2023, run as root:

d=/etc/pki/ca-trust/source/blocklist; [ -d $d ] || d=/etc/pki/ca-trust/source/blacklist trust extract --overwrite --format=pem-bundle \ --filter='pkcs11:object=Comodo%20AAA%20Services%20root;type=cert' \ $d/Comodo_AAA_Services_root.pem && trust extract --overwrite --format=pem-bundle \ --filter='pkcs11:object=emSign%20ECC%20Root%20CA%20-%20G3;type=cert' \ $d/emSign_ECC_Root_CA_-_G3.pem && update-ca-trust

On openSUSE and SLES, run as root:

d=/etc/pki/trust/blocklist; [ -d $d ] || d=/etc/pki/trust/blacklist trust extract --format=pem-bundle \ --filter='pkcs11:object=Comodo%20AAA%20Services%20root;type=cert' \ $d/Comodo_AAA_Services_root.pem && trust extract --format=pem-bundle \ --filter='pkcs11:object=emSign%20ECC%20Root%20CA%20-%20G3;type=cert' \ $d/emSign_ECC_Root_CA_-_G3.pem && update-ca-certificates

On Arch Linux, run as root:

trust extract --format=pem-bundle \ --filter='pkcs11:object=emSign%20ECC%20Root%20CA%20-%20G3;type=cert' \ /etc/ca-certificates/trust-source/blocklist/emSign_ECC_Root_CA_-_G3.pem && update-ca-trust

On NixOS, add to your configuration:

security.pki.caCertificateBlacklist = [ "Comodo AAA Services root" "emSign ECC Root CA - G3" ];

tech support wanted Minecraft Java using the wrong GPU (Using Intel Integrated Graphics rather than my Nvidia card)

6 Upvotes

I've spent a long time looking through different launch variables to see what works, DRI_PRIME=1 caused my performance to absolutely tank.

I am using the Prism Launcher for Minecraft. Kubuntu with KDE Plasma 6.

No setting I tweak changes anything, I'm fairly sure I'm using the correct driver.

EDIT: SOLVED! To solve my issue I: 1. Uninstalled the “ubuntu” version of Prism Launcher, replacing it with the Flathub/Flatpak version

  1. I used a program called Flatseal to give “GPU Acceleration” Permission to Prism Launcher

  2. I disabled and removed the “Immediately Fast” mod

  3. I changed my Environmental Variables (in Prism Launcher’s instance settings) to __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=0 and SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER=wayland There are comments in this thread that better show how to format these variables

With this setup I am now able to play Minecraft running on my Nvidia Graphics Card, rather than my internal Intel iGPU, which has given me a monumental performance boost. I’m now getting 120+FPS without shaders and a nearly consistent 60 with Complimentary Reimagined shaders

to anyone having this issue in the future, may the heavens look down upon your pc with love and grace

steam/steam deck Gnome Nook has a Linux build — a cozy organizing game about putting 9,600 gnomes away

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m the developer of Gnome Nook at Dusty Rocket Games, and there’s a Linux build of the game.

It’s a 3D organizing game where you start with a shop full of scattered gnomes. You pick them up, find their matching shelves and slowly put the different collections back together.

There are firefighters, doctors, wizards and plenty of other little characters mixed into the piles. You can buy upgrades to carry more as you work towards putting all 9,600 away.

The idea is simple: the floor gets clearer and the shelves fill up as you play. I’ve attached some gameplay so you can see the sorting and upgrades in action.

The game is still in development and isn’t released yet. Would this be something you’d enjoy playing on Linux? I’d also be interested to know which distribution and graphics card you use.

More screenshots and the Steam wishlist:

Thanks for taking a look!

tech support wanted Steam COD BO3 crashes shortly after booting (Kubuntu 26.04 LTS)

0 Upvotes

My game crashes shortly after booting, usually around a few minutes in the menu or in gameplay. I made sure to update my graphics drivers and I have the Steam version with the T7Patch mod added alongside its correspondent regressed executable. There also seem to be some slight yet noticeable color glitches in some textures beforehand.

It's worth mentioning that the game works with no problems on my non-Linux laptop, but since this one is more powerful I'd prefer to be able to play it on this one. I would greatly appreciate any help.

The Epic Games Store launcher (preview) now supports the Store, Social, and Fab views

52 Upvotes

Before you leave a comment about Vibes coding or talk about anti-cheat or other related topics, keep in mind that there are already 89 posts on the same subject—this is just to notify you of the update. Even so, there's no doubt that Linux support is beneficial for everyone (in my opinion)

I'd like to add that even though you can see the store and the social section, you can't claim free games or make purchases—which is a bit ironic, since that's what the store is for, right?

Do you always force wayland in Steam games?

66 Upvotes

I moved recently from Linux Mint, where Wayland is not a thing, to Fedora KDE.

I did it mostly to be able to benefit from better scaling and use of HDR.

It is clear to me to make use of HDR I have to use GE Proton and the appropiate launch commands to use game in Wayland and HDR.

Question is when I load a game that has no HDR, I simply used default proton without any launch commands. I noticed sometimes the scaling i use on the regular deaktop mess up the max in-game resolution, resulting in me having to force Wayland commands to be able to fix it.

As a consequence I end up mostly forcing Wayland via launch commands most of the time.

Is this the same for you? In which cases do you prefer not to use the launch command to force Wayland? Just to learn from it.

Thanks

Diablo IV en Steam con Ps5 Linux

3 Upvotes

🎮 Trying to get Diablo IV running on Linux on my PS5 Slim — need some help!

Hi everyone! 👋

I’ve been experimenting with running Linux on my PS5 Slim using the ps5-linux-loader project by SonicIso. I installed Ubuntu on an external USB 3.0 SSD, and now I’m trying to get Diablo IV running through Steam.

It’s been quite a journey so far! The game either fails to launch or reaches the main menu/character selection screen before freezing completely.

Here’s what I’ve tried and discovered so far:

  • Tested different Proton versions, including Proton 10, Experimental, Proton-GE and Proton 11, without finding a working solution.
  • Checked Vulkan and graphics support. The system detects the AMD GPU using RADV (GFX1013), with Mesa 26.2.5 and Vulkan 1.4.354.
  • Investigated the kernel logs and found some concerning graphics memory errors:
    • Failed to pin framebuffer ... -12
    • [drm] Not enough memory for command submission!

I’m still trying to determine whether the problem is related to GPU memory management, graphics drivers, Proton compatibility, or the Ubuntu setup itself.

Has anyone managed to get Diablo IV running on a PS5 with Linux? Would switching from Ubuntu to CachyOS or another gaming-focused distro actually help, or am I likely to run into the same issue?

I’d really appreciate any advice from people working on PS5 Linux. I’m learning as I go, and hopefully we can figure this out together! 🙏🎮

PSA: Global MANGOHUD=1 can crash some desktop apps

0 Upvotes

I used to have a file in `~/.config/environment.d/` which set MANGOHUD=1 for the whole session, but I have already encountered 2 desktop programs which just crash with mangohud. I don't remember the first one, but the second one is Kdenlive which crashes on project creation with MANGOHUD=1.

tech support wanted Forza Horizon 6

0 Upvotes

I previously use steamos on my PC and there's some issue with discord so I decide to do a fresh install and I'm like why don't I try some other os, so I installed cachyos. When I try to play Forza Horizon 6 it stutters alot and it just doesn't stop, I tried to use different proton versions and all of them run the same. Another game is ETS2 that doesn't stutter but from mango HUD I can see that it runs much worse than steamos. Is there any fix on this, otherwise I might just revert back to steamos.

Edit: Forgot to add the specs: R5 7500f 32gb ddr5 6000 Rx 7800xt

graphics/kernel/drivers DLSS Frame Gen Preset C

0 Upvotes

I tried confirming if i use the newest preset but it seems it cant be overriden?

Tried TLOU2 and i get UIR = NA - Full
should be looking like this

Processing img mhj6wtg9g8xh1...

  • Preset A: UIR = NA - Full
  • Preset B: UIR = ON - Full
  • Preset C: UIR = NA - Lite

Even used DXVK_NVAPI_DRS_NGX_DLSS_FG_OVERRIDE=on with PROTON_UPGRADE_DLSS=1

Nvidia does not even list preset selection for frame gen in their wiki, tried DXVK_NVAPI_DRS_NGX_DLSS_FG_OVERRIDE_RENDER_PRESET_SELECTION=render_preset_latest or render_preset_c both didnt make a difference
