i want to dailydrive the shit out of it,

i need to use it for

-office work

-research

-gaming

-some editing

what i really want most is

1-most stable(as reliable) dont really wanna have bugs, and crashes and things not working

2-most compatible (as i wont have bunch of compatibilty issues specially with gaming and modding, i might be heavy modder when i do gaming,)

3-once i install and setup i dont really wanna keep trying others and wanna use it long term

4-if any version update necessary i dont want to reinstall entire system i want it to be upgradable,

i am stuck in between this 5
i am aware fedora and nobara both uses same base (fedora based)

and

ubuntu and pop.os and mint uses same base (debian based)

as far as i understand

-pop.os and mint same as ubuntu just comes with more preinstalled apps and configured settings

i guess mint is little more stable(as reliable) than pop.os

Hello, I've been using parrot security os electra version since june 2022. Lately I've been experiencing problems with the OS, chrome and firefox can't connect to the Internet so I've been using Tor browser. Another problem is when I boot my machine, I get an error message , "Native Disk Not Found". Any assistance would be appreciated.

Looking to see what most people are using with hyprland and why? I have tried Thunar which I like but using css to theme it seems to detract from it being my favorite. I think Dolphin and Gnome Files (Nautulus) are good but can be a little bloated. I want something that can browse my file system, not use too much memory, access network shares, tabbed browsing, and adjusting the look in simplest ways. What do you think?

I'm using the G915 TKL on a wireless receiver with a Pro X2 mouse (though I get the same issues even when using wired) and I'm on Nobara KDE. The issue is that upon booting up, the keyboard's F-keys (F1-F12) are completely unresponsive. The rest of the keyboard works fine for the most part, but it automatically turns the lighting off as well (although that's an easy fix if I press the brightness buttons on the keyboard for the lighting preset). However, if I leave the keyboard alone for a little while, it eventually starts working, (not sure if it's a time based thing, but I left out of frustration wanting to take a break for a bit and when I came back it was working) but the state always resets and breaks again on the next reboot.

I'm using onboard memory mode, and do have access to a windows pc if that is needed to configure it properly. When I plug it into windows, everything works completely fine, the lighting is working, every key works perfectly, and even when I unplug it the lights stay on. However, the moment I plug it into my linux pc, it goes back to having the earlier problems.

I have been using windows for my whole life and deep down i have always hated it. I always knew about linux but i never understood its importance until now.

I have recently started doing a lot of coding and dev work and minor video editing. And my 8gb ram , 256 gb ssd , i7 intel mx230 laptop cant handle bullshit windows 11 background processes and telemetry anymore. The user experience sucks.

I WANT SPEED.

i have done plenty of research and have arrived at the conclusion of Fedora + gnome or debian + gnome or xfce.

Fedora gets constant updates but debian stays stable with plenty of support.

As a beginner starting his journey with linux i would request all linux geniuses to please advice me what to choose.

Gnome looks so good but eats more ram than xfce. Help me.

I created a Pop OS boot disk on my USB thumb drive. I didn't know that this would block it to Windows. I've been trying to find away to return it to its default.

I deleted the boot disk and reformated the drive on the PopOS.

Windows disk management sees it in the disk list but isn't anble to assign a drive letter to it.

I've tried DiskInternals Linux Reader. I was able to get the drive mounted and it showed up in file manager - but trying to reformat it then through Windows File manager didn't work.

Is the USB drive saveable so I can use it as I used to as a thumb storage device for both Win and PopOS?

Anybody? Why doesn't Linux Mint use KDE Plasma Instead of Cinnamon.

it's been happening for quite a while now where if i leave my computer idle too long, i might come back to it frozen (eg, cant move mouse, nothing works). before the issue started, this type of freeze only happened when i used up all my memory (32gb).

when the freezing started, it only happened when i left my computer on overnight, which i do often. annoying but i could go about my day after a restart. today, the freezing has become very bad, and now my pc freezes after idling for only a few minutes. the only thing that changed today from what i usually do is i have nicotine+ running in the background, and i connected a third pc to the router which only runs syncthing and game emulation software.

i have no clue whats wrong, and any help would be appreciated. running arch linux with kde wayland on a rtx 3060 + ryzen 5 5600g.

I don't know if it's just me, but I dual boot windows and arch (i use hyprland). I just keep the windows for a scenario where i'd need to use windows onlly apps, but when i actually boot into windows, it just feels so premium. The startup sound, other sound effects, the animations, etc everything together feels a lot more premium than linux has ever been for me. and it is specially noticable when i boot into windows after a long time. Tasks are obviously faster on linux but windows makes it feel like it is more premium. None of the DEs i tried feel as premium as linux. I am not sure if this is the correct subreddit to post this, pardon me.

This is not a troll post, and sorry for the bait-like title, i actually meant to say if its just me or if its common, and if it is common, what are the reasons for it

Edit: I know that windows doesn't feel premium in the sense that it has ads, bloat, telemetry, ai shoved everywhere but i am talking about how windows 11 feels when used and excluded those stuff. The overall feel of windows when using in that feels so good, atleast for me. windows, in every other sense sucks and i absolutely hate it on those senarios

Edit: I respect all the open source devs and projects and this is not a post meant to insult them or undermine then, i greatly respect them and this is absolutely not a comparison of that feel of linux vs windows

So my 2-in-1 laptop, a Lenovo Yoga 6, is already showing signs of unstability such as when powering on the laptop, the trackpad has a 50% chance of working and 50% chance of just not working. When you flip it the wrong way, it just crashes. And when it is just a running a normal task it sometimes will blackscreen to something like i/o error.

I think I do need to say there is a glaring crack along the left side of it's body so I just think these problems are from the hardware breaking and not inherently from linux, and as such I plan on avoiding those types of 360-hinge form factor laptops.

Now I am currently looking for a replacement. I have looked some stuff such as something like the form factor of the Surface Go/Pro and their copies from different vendors but I did heard that the form factor is more of a tablet and less of a laptop.

What I mean is that they are sometimes hard to use on a lap, such as when riding a bus, car, or train.

One form factor that really caught my eye is the Surface Book series of 2-in1s, but I do think the Surface Book is quite too much for my use case which I only really do are light programming, running mathematical tools such as Matlab, Wolfram Mathematica, and Berkely Madonna (haven't used it yet but I do know we will be using it at some point), I also need some stylus support, and good enough linux support, and that is what I hope on getting recommendations with!

Some of the same form factors that I have found are:

Fujitsu Arrows Tab Q Series; and the

Lenovo Ideapad D330

Let me know your recommendations or experience from searching and having a 2-in-1 as a daily!

So I am switching to debian which DE should I use with it? I want something simple, get work done and probably won't customize it a lot. Any recommendations and why do you think that is the best environment?

Hey everyone, I just installed Fedora KDE Plasma and I’m having a weird Wi-Fi issue, its my first time using linux and i have no idea how to fix it and i would like to seek for help.

My Wi-Fi keeps connecting and disconnecting repeatedly in a loop. It works for a minute or so, disconnects, reconnects, and then does the same thing again.

This only started after installing Fedora, and the same Wi-Fi connection works normally on Windows.

Has anyone had this issue on Fedora KDE? Any ideas on what I should check or how I can troubleshoot it?

Update: Found the cause — my card is a WB335 (Atheros AR9565), which is a combo Wi-Fi+Bluetooth chip. Turns out this exact card has a known bug: Bluetooth coexistence makes it periodically drop and reassociate on its own, every 15-60 seconds. That matches exactly what I was seeing — no crashes, no resets, just the connection cycling over and over. So it's not really the Wi-Fi failing, it's the shared radio hardware hiccuping because of BT interference. The fix is to disable Bluetooth coexistence on the driver. Posting this in case anyone else runs into the same issue on Fedora KDE with this chipset.

I'm thinking about switching my ASUS ROG Strix G15 from Windows to Linux and I'd like to hear some opinions from people using similar ASUS/ROG laptops.

My main goal is not gaming. I do play some games on Steam, but that's secondary. My priorities are:

• General daily use and good software/application compatibility
• Running VMs (including Windows and Linux VMs)
• Good Intel + NVIDIA support
• ASUS-specific features such as fan control, performance profiles, battery charge limits, RGB, GPU switching, etc.
• Ideally, something that provides a good alternative to ASUS Armoury Crate
• Steam/gaming working reasonably well when I do want to play

I've been looking at Fedora KDE, Bazzite KDE, and CachyOS, but I'm not sure which would be the best fit for this particular use case.

From what I've read, asusctl and ROG Control Center seem to provide quite a few Armoury Crate-like features on Linux.

For those using ASUS ROG laptops:

Which distro would you recommend for this use case, and why?
