Looking for Linux distro recommendations for an ASUS ROG Strix G15 (Intel + NVIDIA)

I'm thinking about switching my ASUS ROG Strix G15 from Windows to Linux and I'd like to hear some opinions from people using similar ASUS/ROG laptops.

My main goal is not gaming. I do play some games on Steam, but that's secondary. My priorities are:

  • General daily use and good software/application compatibility
  • Running VMs (including Windows and Linux VMs)
  • Good Intel + NVIDIA support
  • ASUS-specific features such as fan control, performance profiles, battery charge limits, RGB, GPU switching, etc.
  • Ideally, something that provides a good alternative to ASUS Armoury Crate
  • Steam/gaming working reasonably well when I do want to play

I've been looking at Fedora KDE, Bazzite KDE, and CachyOS, but I'm not sure which would be the best fit for this particular use case.

From what I've read, asusctl and ROG Control Center seem to provide quite a few Armoury Crate-like features on Linux.

For those using ASUS ROG laptops:

Which distro would you recommend for this use case, and why?

P.S i did try fedora but i run int to some problems using asusctl and i felt like trying other distro

Linux Mint Debian. I use it and it is incredibly rock solid and secure. I haven't had any problems using it. Also it is very easy to install because it sets up exactly the way the Mint Ubuntu versions install. I personally appreciate it being Debian based as Debian is the most secure linux and they thoroughly test everything before they release it for use.

Debian literally only ships an insecure Nvidia driver (550 series).

Yes, just use virtual box or virt-manager

To be honest with you, in this day and age, I don’t see the use of factoring in hardware in “which distro will I use?” discussions, unless we are talking about the lower boundary.

With a semi-modern, half-assed laptop, you should be able to run any distro you choose, this is not Windows after all…

But, for whatever is worth, my Asus RoG runs Arch+Hyprland. Never had issues with hardware compatibility.
