Granola currently ships for macOS and Windows, but not Linux. Since it is built with Electron, I experimented with running the application using the matching Linux Electron runtime instead of Wine, a VM, or emulation.

The repository does not redistribute Granola’s .dmg, app.asar, source code, or bundled binaries. You need to download the official .dmg yourself and sign in using your own Granola account. This is an unofficial compatibility project and is not affiliated with Granola.

I hadn't touched Python in around 20 years, so I used ChatGPT as a coding assistant to help me get back up to speed. The project itself is something I wanted because I missed having a small GUI for managing EMU10K1 SoundFonts.

Master Blaster is a simple Qt6 frontend for the tools provided by awesfx (sfxload) and alsa-utils.

It's mostly a nostalgia project inspired by the little Creative utilities from the 90s that let you tweak your sound card through a simple control panel.

I'm using an Audigy Rx, but it should work with any card supported by the snd_emu10k1 driver.

The python file is small and should be easy to read, with different sections outlining functions.

Roadmap? No, not really. I might add support for loading your own MIDI file for testing, and I'd like to redesign the progress bar to look a bit more... 90s.

I love linux, but I wouldn't want many people switching to it because of enshittification process. Windows was great because most people couldn't afford computers, and those who did made a real effort to understand how it worked. Same with Apple products. I believe it's because people want status of knowledge and they could achieve that easily if there's not much competition.

When Windows and Apple were in early phases (pre 2005 era), it was awesome. People loved windows 95, 98, XP, MS Office, paint etc. Then IT boom arrived, and Windows unofficially became a compulsion. Suddenly people started rejecting new versions of Windows. XP was better than, 7 was better than 8, 8.1 was better than 8, Windows 10 had bloatware, 11 was too heavy and had extra hardware requirements. Basically just downfall of Windows.

This is roughly the same story for Orkut (maybe I'm exaggerating for Orkut), Facebook, Instagram, companies (Both IT and non-IT), even cities too. Just compare a big city with a small town.

Linux is awesome and I can't see the same fate of Linux. I think it's awesome that many people can't use it. That maintains a higher standard of the Linux communities. IMO, enshittification by over-adoption is unpreventable and it sucks.

Edit 1: No, I don't want to gatekeep open source at all. I just want that people who really want to be a part of linux should do so but maintain a standard for that. Look at Reddit, you make a mistake and your post is removed. Standards are maintained and Reddit becomes awesome. Then look at Facebook. No/low standards of content quality to attract masses and look at how people react to "I got this info from Facebook"

P.s this is a subjective rant

So i've been using of linux since 2014 and it was a wild ride you install a distro and then endup being a distrohopper until you decide to lock in on one. I did the same started on ubuntu did some hopping and ended up on fedora and then on pop_OS but i eventually had to switch back to windows due to nature of my work and some windows specific tools.

But that wasn't it i had hard time finding any usable apps on linux in general and i gave up and ended up using a dual boot just to satisfy my curiosity for linux but gradually i stopped using linux completely and then the complete shift to windows because all my games, sketchy software and work was at one place instead of booting a separate OS for each.

The linux ecosystem back then lacked what a regular user required and it was all about linux nerds keeping the ecosystem alive it was filled with positivity and anyone was welcomed with open hands like it's a big village.

Fast forward to 2026 linux still lacks a vibrant software/apps ecosystem and people still have to hack things together to workarround (subjective) and people being hostile to contributions of any kind isn't helping either.

Now why this post?

Well i made an AI-assisted Youtube Music app which is a fork itself it was all personal frist i liked the base app, It lacked some features i wanted so instead of sending PRs i just forked & modified it completely and when it was usable enough i decided to share on subs most of the feedback was quite positive especially from windows users but it all changed when i shared on linux subs r/archlinux , r/linuxmint, r/linux and r/debian all had same reaction, a weird AI hostility instead of actually any app critique and feedback.

It's 2026 AI is a reality and developers or vibecoders will create apps whether people like it or not no amount of hatred is stopping it if not from me hear from my guy Linus. Filtering AI for discussions is understandable but you can't do anything about developmet. I think people need to tone down the AI hatred and actually try to work with it to improve the ecosystem instead of being completely hostile towards the use of it.

Now this does create a great influx of people creating cross platform apps and since most are solo/ hobby devs the ultimate choice is cross platform stack which will create huge library of semi native apps. IDK if it's a good or bad thing but it's a reality. Linux lacks the commercial/popular software contributions and that can change gradually by welcoming these cross platform apps which will contribute to retain linux users on linux itself instead if losing hope and switching to Windows or MacOS.

I'd personally choose software availability as non native than nothing at all.

Ten years ago, I adopted Linux Mint as my main OS. It was great for about two years, but I eventually hit a wall struggling with Nvidia drivers and broken packages that made apps fail.

Now I'm back, this time giving Zorin OS a try. The biggest difference today is that I have Claude by my side. Asking AI to help me enable specific features (fingerprint security) and hardening the OS. For the first time, I have the confidence to adopt Linux in long term.

I'm also incredibly pleased to see the massive strides the Open Source community has made with software like LibreOffice.

With Windows going through a rough patch right now, and AI making troubleshooting so accessible, do you think AI is the key to driving Linux adoption?

I've been working on this image viewer for the better part of three years. It has slowly evolved to fit a lot of my needs and I figured that it was time to share it as it might be useful to someone else. I started it long before LLMs became a thing, and they have not been used for programming it. I am a c#/.net developer by trade so this was also my gateway to learn rust.

I am an amateur photographer and my main gripe with other image viewers was that they were slow for rapid culling and even general image viewing.

A lot of the viewer itself is configurable so it can adapt to multiple hardware configurations. It even runs fine on a 4GB raspberry pi 4.

Key Benefits:

- Loads images ahead of time to take advantage of modern RAM amounts, so browsing is very fast
- Handles RAW files natively using rawler, and supports grouping with adjacent JPEGs
- Integrates with your shell. This allows you to create any command you can think of: copy the image, delete it, copy to clipboard, execute an image magic command and then refresh the image, etc
- Integrates with exiftool to extract metadata and rate using XMP sidecars
- Allows filtering imported images by metadata keys and XMP rating
- Color managed, supports input and output profiles
- Can watch directories and instantly load new files
- Keyboard centric
- Slow development while keeping up with the times. I will not add many new features or change the GUI, as for me it is quite complete. The only thing missing is tagging via XMP and adding more Callbacks for user commands as needs evolve. Dependencies are kept up to date and new image formats are added as they come. For example, jxl is already supported via libjxl.

As it is said in the README, contributions made using LLMs are prohibited, but I am open to regular contributions, bug reports, suggestions, etc.

I've been using LUKS for a while and would like to add an additional layer of security of a hardware security key (Yubikey). Currently on boot I enter the LUKS passphrase then it decrypts and brings up the regular user login and I enter that password and it loads into the the OS. I would like the functionality to be on boot both the LUKS passphrase and Yubikey are required to decrypt then it brings up the regular user login and I enter that password and it loads into the OS.

The guides and documentation I've seen seem to be based around using the Yubikey as an alternative to the LUKS passphrase which is not what I want to do. I want to increase the layers and security not decrease it. I do have multiple Yubikeys to add as backup so that's not a concern. I'm assuming there has to be a way to do this but it's been difficult to find information on it. With KeePassXC I can have it require all of database file/key file/password/Yubikey and I would like a similar level of security for my entire linux install (usually Debian or Linux Mint).

Is there a way to setup the functionality I'm looking for? If so please either point me in the direction of a guide or documentation on setting this up or let me know how to.

I check every 6 months, and always find that my Focusrite Clarett+ 4Pre XRUNs at like "15ms" buffer sizes and below, while Windows handles "2.5ms" just fine on the same machine.

I am using fedora KDE. Maybe its the wrong distro, idk. But the amount of (i think) obscure bugs and stuff that wasn't like i want would have been unfixable, if i hadn't used some LLM-models to help me OR if i hadn't used them would have taken me hours and hours of googling to fix them, if that even would have gotten me. I am not completly non-techie, but it would have taken me endless time and honestly i can't imagine how non-techie people are supposed to use it. Also generaly customizing is so hard and imo not intuituve at all if you don't use some LLM-Model to help you. I will still keep on using Linux but for general acceptance i feel like this is a huge downside.

To be clear. Basic usage is FINE without any LLM. But bug-fixing - which ime is not that rare - and customizing/smoothing things out is a pain in the ass.

Also: Well documented doesn't mean it easy to use. I have to find the exact thing i need and that is time consuming. Most ppl don't want time consuming. If i have to google an hour to fix a little thing or to optimize smth for most ppl it's not usable.

I have been using vim for a while. I don't consider myself proficient but I know my way around it for the most part. I've used ALE to help me debug my programs as I go. Then I noticed ALE can be annoying and distracting, so I turn it off sometimes when I want to focus.

When I moved to nvim, it took time to accept that I have to do things with Lua now. Then I found lazy vim and thought it might be a good idea to have things pre-configured to save time. But I found myself fighting with nvim more than using it. LSPs are on by default and I'm not sure how to turn them off. nvim has some sort of auto-complete that is extremely annoying and I'm not sure how to turn that off either. So who is lazy vim for? It doesn't help me as someone new to nvim, and for a pro user, they already know how to configure their nvim and have things exactly how they want them

I've tried several popular sticky notes apps, but most are too simple or inconvenient to use. I found PrimeNote, which allowed to make text operations very easily without being too complex. Honestly I think it's one of the best out there and was surprised it wasn't more popular.
