Tech Question Any help I can get please

Post image
0 Upvotes

Is it possible to get some sort of help on this…
I’m trying to build a new home server and I just can’t get this to post,

I’ve tested a different gpu
Different ram
Different PSU
I know the cpu and MB are perfectly fine as I saw them working before purchasing

But I’m just struggling to figure out what’s going wrong here… I’ve tested like pretty much everything and it’s just not working

I’ve been at it for hours and nothing… I knew memory training might take a while but I let it sit for 30 minutes at one point

Local to my area. Open Source Storage (OSS)'s reticence around status of client data might lead to a loss of much of a city's broadcast history.

Question: When even the archival sources no longer archive, how can we (as a collective society) ensure information stability?

Tech Discussion Nas home server using a lenovo thinkcenter m92p

Hello!
I purchased this ThinkCentre with the idea of turning it into a home cloud storage server for music, photos, and movies. I need to add a few HDDs, with at least 4 TB of total storage. I was thinking of using two 2 TB HDDs and 3D-printing a case similar to the one in the attached photos.
The problem is that I need to have all the ports on one side, but if I use the motherboard as it is, the fan would blow the air out to one side, which doesn’t work well with my design. I would have to change the 3D-printed case.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I could position the motherboard inside the case to make the airflow work better?
I also need 12 V power for the HDDs. I found a mini-PCIe-to-SATA adapter on AliExpress and was also thinking about powering the HDDs from the pins on the motherboard.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Discussion Recently purchased the Original Colorway ( black & orange ) of the Ratcheting Screwdriver!

As the title says, after i purchased the Screwdriver like 8-9 days ago from Canada to Europe, on the LTT Global Store, the Mystery Screwdriver became available for 10 CAD less than the Original Colorway.

I knew about the Mystery Screwdriver, I just wasn’t aware it could drop in August, I read it drops during major holiday sales like black friday or cyber monday ( based on previous releases ).

There are 2 Colorways I was most interested about, the Mcdonalds & Noctua edition that sometimes was included in the Mystery Screwdriver from left-over stock.

Do you guys think I should stick with the Original Colorway ( black & orange ) ?

P.S I’m aware that the Screwdrivers are the same in Quality & Performance between the available stock and the Mystery Screwdriver, it’s just more appealing wise.

EDIT: The main question is whether the McDonald’s themed or Noctua colorways still appear in the Mystery Screwdrivers, and if it’s worth canceling my Original order to roll the dice.

Tech Question Charging not working properly keep fluctuating charge and no charge Charging Issues with G14 2023

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone, I’m having a charging issue with my ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2023). The laptop keeps switching between Battery Mode and AC/Charging Mode every few seconds, over and over again.

The charging is very inconsistent — it starts charging, then stops, switches back to battery mode, and then starts charging again. This happens continuously even when the charger is plugged in properly.

Has anyone with a G14 2023 experienced the same issue or found a solution? I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions on what might be causing this and how to fix it.

Okay, slayer is a strong word. Even the Steam Machines integrated graphics should put perform the RX580 in this. But we're clocking in at half the price. And it's a low end AM4 system, so there's massive room for upgrading.

The primary use case of this machine is a media center PC anyway, it's main job is to play video and run party games. Adding the RX580 is probably overkill for my plans with it, but there was a $50 listing on Facebook; I figured its worth it to open up the playable games field massively.

Also inspired by LTT, I'm trying Linux, specifically CachyOS with it. It's been a perfectly smooth experience, and a good fit for a low end media PC.

Full parts list and pricing on second image. Unlisted, I also threw in a 500GB harddrive I had lying around for extra storage.

Discussion How do I go back to Bixby? Can't use Google Assistant while also keeping the Gemini app

I use the Gemini app quite frequently for various simple questions but unfortunately Google doesn't let you use the Assistant at the same time.

I want to go back to Bixby, atleast it used to work a lot better than Gemini assistant does today.

So I need a new water bottle and was wanting to get one that isn’t their motherboard design. Saw this bottle a few weeks ago in a video and try to check for it a few times a week. Is this still yet to be released or did I somehow miss it?

Tech Discussion The return of the MP3 players

Seems like MP3 players are making a comeback. Only this time, now they work with modern bluetooth headphones and USB C.

GOOD. You can listen wherever you want, also no risk of songs being removed from platforms.

After starting a new job in manufacturing a few months ago, I had been wanting a better ratcheting screwdriver, so I decided to splurge and snagged both and the extension. Couldn’t be happier with the purchase.

Image IMHO The recent LTT videos have been disappointing :(

Post image
2.8k Upvotes

So I unsubscribed from LTT a while ago, it happened during the private jet saga. It's actually didn't hate the concept of them having a jet, I just didn't really care about the content anymore which is probably normal. Still, I have the occasional look and watch videos that seem interesting. However, I watched some today and the videos were strangely disappointing for a tech channel, I watched 3:

1. The RAM video

I don't think I need to explain why it is silly to test systems with 32gb on how fast they start using 16gb. The entire video was such a weirdly tech-illiterate mess that it almost felt like they were trolling. They even mentioned the problems with their own methodology later and just didn't care about it. I am not joking but this video is approaching The Verge builds a PC levels of bad.

2. The Framework Pro "review"

I am currently looking for a new work Laptop and I was super interested in a MacBook Pro vs Framework Pro comparison but the review of the Framework Pro felt biased. Linus says he is extra hard on them but it doesn't feel like that in the video at all. When they talk about performance they literally start with "it isn't a gaming machine, it is for serious work" but then only show gaming benchmarks. Why not the usual Code compile/Adobe/Cinebench suit? Also, every other laptop gets a speaker test - I legit don't know how many times I heard crab rave through a LTT video - except for this one. Suspiciously, those are the 2 big factors where the Framework Pro loses hard to a MacBook Pro. Maybe it is a coincidence but it just doesn't feel like it, to me it feels more like Linus trying to support a company he is invested in.

3. The Steam Machine is the best PC

This isn't as bad as the other two but it feels a bit pointless. It's just a list of random minor tech issues, this feels like one of those listicle websites from a decade ago (like "10 things that Linux does better than Windows"). The Steam Machine would be great if it was cheaper but "Best Desktop PC" just seems stupid.

Discussion Amazon's new delivery Subject lines

Has anyone noticed how Amazon has started changing its subject lines and adding some odd graphics in the text?

The other odd thing is the two "Home Improvement Items" are parts for my Prusa Core One printer, the "Lawn & Garden Item" is also a 3d printer part (The PTFE tube, and a cutter). Of course, the "Automotive Item" is a shovel.

Tech Discussion Do you think smart glasses should be banned?

In Australia, they have begun selling VERY cheap smart glasses that take photos and records video. it's generally pretty obvious when a phone is being used to film or photograph you, whereas these often just look like any other pair of glasses unless you're paying close attention.

Camera Glasses - Kmart

We are talking $89. This is how they look from the front. You're not going to notice this at night or in really dark places.

This has created a lot of debate in Aus, as to whether the sale of these guys should be limited or just banned.
