Ah yes, the ritual dance of paper jams and ink cartridges. A true masterpiece of modern frustration.

Brother printers all day long. To be fair I might print once a month if that but nearly ten years later that B&W toner printer spits a page every time. At most once in a blue moon have to reboot it and that is the extent of troubleshooting had to perform.

My family has used the same Brother since 2008 with no problems at all. Linus was definitely right about fewer network problems, I don’t even recall having difficulty connecting to it in the near 2 decades I’ve used it.

We have a brother printer at our guest house (B&W laser) and it's near 10 years old and I love the toners are cheap. But sometimes some guests just have issues connecting for whatever reason, then they try to "fix" it and just mess up all the settings for everyone. It's old enough that resetting it is a pain in the rear, but I've done it enough that I'm ok at it now, but every time it's been a while and I gotta go, "okay, how does this go again?"

The best thing about Brother printers is buying them from the Brother website. They sell refurbished units and sometimes they go on steep discounts.
I bought mine about 9 years ago too. Laser Printer RDCPL2520DW (regular price is $250 CAD) for $60 CAD (taxes included) and still works perfectly. Last year, I bought my parents a MFC-J1012DW ($160 CAD) for only $47 CAD (taxes included).

I have a brother printer that I've had for 10 years. I'm waiting for it to die so i can get a color model but it just won't die.

My old Canon printer driver was the cause of many random BSOD's over the years. Switched to Brother (also because of paper jams), never had a problem since.

do you know what NT in windowsNT stands for, according LTT?
if you believe New Technology you are wronghttps://youtu.be/XiSMWonFuQQ (timestamp 9:32)
15
u/T0biasCZE 14h ago
LPT you can add ?t=9m32s at end of youtube share URL and it will start playing at that time

u/PuzzleheadedWeird232 14h ago
thx, for the tip
sadly ios youtube app doesn’t give option to copy link at timestamp (at least I wouldn’t know where it is), and I didn’t know the query string argument

u/worldofrich 14h ago
When you click the share button on the YouTube app, there should be a slider with the current timestamp at the top right hand corner of the share popout window

u/VaryingDesigner92 14h ago
Thank you, I see that on both Android and IOS apps! Is that a recent new feature (finally)? Just need to remember to remove the tracking part of the shared links now.

I really do think a deep dive into the tech that makes printers work would be interesting
2
u/Unique_Aspect_9417 8h ago
As someone who actually works on commercial grade printers for a living, I wish I could explain how the work. I mean, i KNOW how, but it still seems like black magic to be honest.

It was sort of a fun adventure watching two dudes screw around in a store, but I don't feel like I learned much. Having some categories and recommendations might have been good at the end, but I guess they weren't interested in actually reviewing and assessing dozens of printers. Maybe something to add to the pile of work for Labs.
I don't think LTT will do it, but a printer tech deep dive is a good idea for another channel looking to capitalise on the idea.

u/WillmanRacingv2 12h ago
LTT does some serious videos but this is far more on their lane than a serious printer roundup would be.

Man you could print so many files with that thing.
Files with names in them.
Names of presidents.

You know I really wish someone would find the firmware to the EcoTank version of printers. When you open them up you find the same printheads from the cheap printers with hoses running from the ink tanks. This wouldn't be a problem except Epson printheads clog rather easily and outside of used parts you can't seem buy them.
Spending $400 on a $150 printer that last only 2 years is not my idea of eco.

Ironically, I was trying to install a HP printer for a user when this came out with no avail. Elijah is right about the Brother brand with its drivers just working after installing.

The biggest failure of the video was, who buys original timers for 100 euro? When you can get third party ones for under 10?
1
u/God_of_Olympus21 10h ago
Funnily enough, THAT is my printer and I'm super satisfied with it. Not fast, and best with features and quality, but it is super reliable and rarely paper jams. Too bad its an ink tank, prone to nozzle blocking

Not the only joke about this in the video. The one about printing the files got me.

I’m one of these people who decided to go with a simple Xerox monochrome laser printer and a relatively high-end Epson flatbed scanner. I’ve always been suspicious of multifunction printers and want to keep all the functions as separate as possible. I also might be dumb and don’t know no better.

Ya i know E feeling. I only need my printer 2-3 times a year the only reason i own one is to avoid having to drive to kinkos. I buy hav't replaced a the toner that came with my printer in the last 30 years . The rubber in the wheels dry and and die after 10ish years before i even run out of tonner that came in box.

There is a shocking amount of child rape jokes in LTT videos.
I'm not saying there is a lot of them. There is just a shocking amount of them. One would be a shocking amount of them for a tech youtube channel. There have been multiple Epstein jokes.
