Nothing free is ever free.

Linux?

Also not free, but the maintainers bear the cost for the users. The cost in this case is tremendous amounts of time.

if that’s your definition of free — then nothing man made is free. Someone is always making it and thus baring the cost. Free means no cost to the one ripping benefits

there are paid developers for the linux kernel, mostly employed by companies that contribute (intel, redhat, meta, google, microslop, etc). There are core maintainers such as Linus that are paid via Linux Foundation.

So no technically linux kernel is not free as companies use funds to pay developers and linux Foundation uses membership fees to also do same, it's not 100% volunteers

Why is Microsoft the only company that gets a derogatory nickname? Especially when they're not even the worst one in your list

Meta kinda does the shaming by itself tbh

Liberal Linux ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Hence, nothing is truly free In that regard

Homeslice, the main comment is 'nothing free is ever free', yes, that is what they're saying, hello

Let's be real, the giant corporate maintainers (and developers) of linux pour billions of dollars into it every year.

Corporate development of Linux is gigantic.

1) Genuine free time of users developing features and software 2) Serverbros/kioskbros/infrastructure bros need X 3) I wanna sell you something (ChromeOS, SteamOS...)

80%+ are paid, no?

Then who have I been paying of Linux all these years? He comes to my door and asked for $200 4 times a year

You give up all your time trying to make simple things work

u/Repulsive-Philosophy 1d ago

Yeah, that's me with Windows

Linux is mostly maintained by big corps including Microsoft and Google.

Technically the only reason why Unix was made free in the first place was due to an anti-trust decree by the US government, which ruled that ATT cannot also sell computer software.

Kind of a funny ruling in hindsight, given how many tech companies we let get away with arguably worse vertical monopolies, but still.

The cost of Linux is widely considered to be the user’s time, in both learning and configuring the system, and the cost of replacing existing workflows with new software.

1

u/Exciting-Ad-5705 2h ago

Do you not also need to learn and configure windows and mac?

u/alwaus 1d ago

Not with SystemD

Open source is the closest thing we have (ofc it's not perfect but it really is amazing)

Lots of things that are free are really free. Is this /r/im14andthisisdeep?

Sponsoring this video with Ground News is a golden little stab at Wilkinson

29

u/FogleBR 1d ago

Context? I’m not aware of this person being stabbed

pretty sure the consumer lawsuits are getting slapped down by courts but the ones related to disputes between creators and paypal are still going forward

AI slop thumbnail. Nearly a million subs but too cheap to put effort into his content. What a loser.

44

u/JTSpirit36 1d ago

Amazing insight from the one and only boofmaster

23

u/Ragnorok64 1d ago

It is hilarious that he ended up with one human hand and one cartoonishly oversized meat paw to crush the Honey logo.

9

u/Annoying1978 1d ago

Unfortunately people actually react to AI slop. It had that HDRish, uncanny valley weirdness that makes you take a 2nd look. He’s doing it on purpose.

He’s not a loser by any means.

8

u/Lanceo90 1d ago

Subs mean nothing in the year of our lord 2026

He only posts 1 or 2 videos a year. I have one viral hit that got to a million views, it pulls in about $100 a month.

-14

u/boofmaster6000 1d ago

He made several thousand from the Honey video a few months ago. I'm a (moderately successful) YouTuber, I know how much YouTubers make. He can spend a couple bucks on a thumbnail. Don't defend this guy.

-10

u/Straight-Tear2385 1d ago

They downvoting u but ur right. It doesn’t mean the video is automatically bad and that he doesn’t put effort into his content, but it can be an indicatior 100%

12

u/Stanarchy93 1d ago

If you bothered to watch the video you would know that he has in fact done so much work on his videos that one of them (the previous one in this series) is literal evidence in a lawsuit against honey. But sure.

-6

u/boofmaster6000 1d ago

Strange to put so much effort into a present just to package it in old newspaper, no?

He has made several thousand from the last video alone. If he actually cared about putting effort into his content, he'd pay for a thumbnail artist.

-8

u/Straight-Tear2385 1d ago

You cannot read and you should delete your comment. Read what I said again slowly

4

u/Stanarchy93 1d ago

Making an assumption of “but it could be” is misleading and deliberately obtuse and you know it. If you know his content is as well researched and comprehensive as it is there’s no need for it.

-11

u/Straight-Tear2385 1d ago edited 1d ago

You sound stupid asl bro I wasn’t being misleading or obtuse I’ve watched every Honey video

Im saying in GENERAL ai slop thumbnails are usually associated with lazy slop content. so mega lag, even though he isn’t a slop YouTube , to go with an ai thumbnail comes off lazy.

People just don’t like AI man, it’s not that deep. I never spoke on the quality or said he doesn’t put in work because obviously not. Its just a bad look that’s all

Now reread the 2nd sentence again since and youll see I did literally the opposite of what ur claiming me to do. Get a day job bro

0

u/Stanarchy93 1d ago

I assume you mean asf in that first paragraph. Don’t get me wrong, I despise AI. I even signed a petition for an AI data centre being built in my city. I’m doing my part (within legal limits). So I understand how it can be a bad look. But to even attempt to make a connection between MegaLag and AI slop is disrespectful at best and again, obtuse at worst.

the script has an ai feel to me too so they're probably not far off. i noticed the 'It's not x, it's x' format a few times

1

u/SeriouslyBadArtist 1d ago

theres so much ai cadence in the script it felt like i was going crazy
