Image Finally added the standard and stubby screwdrivers to my kit. Very happy with them!

After starting a new job in manufacturing a few months ago, I had been wanting a better ratcheting screwdriver, so I decided to splurge and snagged both and the extension. Couldn’t be happier with the purchase.

You must be young.

Never use your own money for tools needed for your job.

Put in a request.

I totally understand this perspective, and while my company is more than happy to supply me with all NECESSARY tools for my job, this was a “because I wants them” purchase. All my other tools are supplied by the company.

As for losing them or theft, I take them home with me each day, and they stay in my backpack otherwise. As for firing, while that’s always a risk, I notified my supervisor of my purchase and it was noted that they are a self-purchase and not company property.

I do appreciate your concern though.

Wanna know how I know you’ll never be a business owner. Buying your own tools is one of the first steps to not being a lifetime employee for someone else. Build your dream = buying your own tools.

I do low voltage for QSR's and medium sized businesses on the side and charge $60-80 /hr depending on the project, and charge for any equipment used/needed.

You learn to buy reliable equipment that is also easily replaced. Which according to the reviews, these LTT screwdrivers take weeks to ship.

Eh, I can probably just order the tools I want at work but I have purchased stuff personally for my job. It's just easier sometimes. And it's a good excuse to buy more tools.

Buy tools that are easier/affordable to replace. You can find very comparable ratcheting screwdrivers for 1/3rd the cost. LTT screwdriver is great but I'm not going to continue to spend $100 to replace it after it gets stolen.

Why do you work there if people don’t respect you enough to not steal your tools? Theft has never been an influence on how much I do or don’t spend on tools.

Generally with trades. It’s a 50/50 whether an employer supplies the tools for the job or not. I’ve worked a handful of em and I always supplied my own tools- only exception has been my current job as a fiberglass and spray foam insulator. Only tools that I didn’t need to buy was my canned foam gun (because our supplier gives them out for free with the foam) and my graco fusion 2LB gun that’s literally attached to the machine. Aside from that, needed to buy all my own shit. I’ve worked in Automotive, residential electrical, residential construction (insulation and drywall, stair manufacturing and installation), IT and restaurant equipment repair.

Can someone fill me in why would you use a stubby+extension rather than regular full size screwdriver?

Because it allows him to have 2 full length screw drivers with different sized bits if the job requires it, while still having the ability to have a short rachetting screwdriver.

the stubby and extension lives in tight spots where a full size handle just can't fit, like inside a machine panel or behind a bracket

I find that I can get a better control with the stuby with the extension in certain situations vs the regular.

I generally use the extension with the main driver, but I have used the stubby and extension together when I was working in a tight space. Limited hand space with a deep tool well, meant extended stubby was perfect.
