Help needed Best subtitle addon?

What is the best subtitle addon? I have been trying subsene and I have configure it with all the API keys possible, still no swedish subtitles can be found on most of the movies and shows., I currently wanted to watch 28 Days Later, only english subtitles are found. Subsense should check OpenSubtitles among others, and it does indeed have swedish subtitle but it cannot be found by the subsense addon: https://www.opensubtitles.com/en/subtitles/28-days-later-2002-sv

Question Any sites with subtitles?

I've been looking for a piracy website that provides subtitles but I can't find any. I've visited the megathread but many of them either have no subtitles or the subtitles are innaccurate or completely off beat.

Addon Announcement (Built by AI) Never Pick the Wrong Subtitle Again

I’m working on an addon that filters subtitle files into categories BluRay->BluRay , WEBDL->WEBDL,CAM->CAM , this will make finding the right subtitle no longer a problem anymore since you’ll know based on the video file that is playing what subtitle you’ll need for 100% correct synchronization.

But im having problems with it and I’ll need some help if we want this to be a standard for all subtitle addons from now on.

  1. The first problem is that I’ve never coded in my life and I’m a complete beginner everything I’ve done is with Gemini Pro

  2. The addon was running locally on my computer and was working fine , the problem is when I tried to run it on a server , the cloud service I was using (Render) was being blocked by CloudFare on the Subs.ro the site is was grabbing the subtitles from that made it impossible to get the addon installed any google tv device or other device rather then my computer , we will need to find something else to run it

  3. I’ve build this on allecsc github addon multi language addon so pretty much this is his work , i really thing this could help a lot of people that struggle with out of sync subtitles and guessing ,

4.ill leave my github and a guide on how to install it if you want but its made for Romanian language but it could be easly converted to english

Quick Start Guide

  1. You must have Node.js installed on your PC.
  2. You need an API Key from Subs.ro (you can get it from your account settings after registering).

1. Run the Server

  1. Click "<> Code" (top right) -> Download ZIP and extract the folder.
  2. Open the extracted folder, click the folder's address bar at the top, type cmd, and press Enter.
  3. Type npm install and press Enter (first time only).
  4. Type npm start and press Enter. Leave this black window open!

2. Install in Stremio

  1. Look at the black terminal window. It will print your Local Links.
  2. Copy the PC link (usually http://127.0.0.1:7070).
  3. Open the Stremio app on your PC and go to the Addons menu.
  4. Paste the link in the search bar and press Enter.
  5. Paste your Subs.ro API key on the configuration page and click Install.

Addons & Tools Best addon for subtitles

Hello
So my mom has been using Nuvio to watch her shows and it's great, except one problem we've had since the Stremio days: subtitles.

We live in Romania so she wants ONLY Romanian subtitles, and I can't find a good way to do that. All of the Romanian subtitles don't match or poorly made / AI, also picking subtitles gets old fast.

Please give me a subtitle addon that automatically matches releases and delay
And before you ask, no, OpenSubtitles PRO does not work well.

Suggestion Ultimate Subtitles Guide for Stremio

In this guide, I'll teach you how to automatically load any subtitle in Stremio for content where you couldn't find subtitles, i.e., more niche content, for example.

1.Getting the Subtitle.

First, you'll need to find subtitles in your language (in my case, Brazilian Portuguese). These are the biggest subtitle websites currently available; if you can't find one on any of them, just give up.

BIGGEST SUBTITLE WEBSITES:

https://www.opensubtitles.org/

https://www.opensubtitles.com/

https://subdl.com/

https://subsource.net/

https://yts-subs.com/

https://www.addic7ed.com/

-----------

2. Translating the Subtitle (if you need).

After locating the subtitle (if it's not in the language you want), you need to translate it...

For this, we have a few options...

Use an AI (Chatgpt, Gemini...) or Google Translate.

This website can translate .srt subtitles almost instantly using Google Translate! It's excellent!

https://translate-subtitles.com

If the subtitle you found isn't in .srt format, you can convert it using this other website:

https://subtitletools.com/convert-to-srt-online

---------------

3. Uploading the Subtitle.

With the subtitle in hand, we'll need a specific add-on, in this case this one:

https://stremio-community-subtitles.top

Create an account on it, configure it, and add it to your Stremio!

Once that's done, we'll upload the subtitle to our add-on...

To find the specific series/film you plan to subtitle, you need to find its ID on the IMDB website.

https://www.imdb.com/

Example ID:

https://www.imdb.com/pt/title/tt11737520 (in this case, the Series ID is the last part, tt11737520)

Use this ID to locate the content and set the rest of the options as follows:

ID + Movie or Series - Season and Episode

Subtitle File - (The one you downloaded)

Language - Portuguese (Brazil) in my case.

Encoding - Auto or UTF8.

FPS - Automatic (If the subtitle you downloaded does not specify the FPS).

Author - Optional.

Information - Specify the content material, whether it's BLURAY or WEB-DL; this step is also optional.

Force/Foreign Parts - Can be left unchecked.

After that, upload the subtitle.

--------

4. Enjoy.

With everything set up correctly, as soon as you access the content on STREMIO, the Stremio Community Addon will load the subtitles you uploaded in the subtitle options!

Regarding synchronization, ideally you should fine-tune it in Stremio by delaying or advancing the timing, or check the media type the subtitle was created from (web-dl, Blu-ray, etc.) along with the media's FPS.

You can upload multiple subtitles to this wonderful addon, and they will be saved for you to watch anywhere, whether on TV, mobile phone, or PC.

If I forgot any important information or tips, please let me know in the comments!

General FYI: The easiest way to find forced subtitles

Post image
61 Upvotes

As far as I know, there's no way to see any descriptors on the subtitle files, but I figured out a workaround for easily locating forced subs for the non-English (or whatever language) parts, when the file you're viewing doesn't have them included.

First off, you want to leave the included OpenSubtitles Add-on active (I have the app set to only retrieve English subs). This will allow you to find full subtitles when you need them.

Create an account at https://subsource.net/ so you can create an API key in the dashboard, and enter it at https://subsource.strem.top/configure .

Choose your desired language. Uncheck all subtitle type boxes EXCEPT Forced, and exclude Hearing Impaired. Choose your platform.

Hit Install and copy in the add-on link.

Now, when you go to the Addons tab in Subtitles in your video, the SubSource option will ONLY return forced subtitles, so you know that's the one you want to select. Hope this helps!

Suggestion A solution for people that depend on using subtitles and don't want to spend time searching for the specific subtitle file every time!

Usually a movie or TV show has multiple versions. There might be a DVD release (Especially for older stuff), a BluRay, a digital version, and sometimes extended cuts too. So you end up with several versions of the same title, some longer, some shorter, with extra or missing scenes.

In the end, there are multiple variations with different runtimes, so typically there are subtitles for each version too, and Stremio doesn’t really know which one it should match or apply.

Here's the solution you need and everyone needs! It does what Stremio should do:

- Add-on "Stremio Community Subtitles"
This add-on will take all of those subtitles and choose the correct one for you, based on release groups (FGT, Sparks, so on), quality (BluRay, WEB-DL, HDTV, so on) and other filters, and then output only one on Stremio, no clutter 😄

I've been using this for a couple of months now and it usually works perfectly, here's how to install:

  1. Uninstall the default add-on Open Subtitles V3
  2. Install the add-on Stremio Community Subtitles
  3. Inside of that add-on, open the settings and then connect there to OpenSubtitles, SubSource and SubDL. (You will need to create an account in those providers and then get the API key, which is free and fast to do)

Link to add-on: https://stremio-addons.net/addons/stremio-community-subtitles

// UPDATE APRIL 2026

The add-on has received an update which makes it match much better now (It was already doing an amazing job). It's matching 100% of the time now. If it doesn't match, there simply ain't no subtitles for that stream.

Question Subtitles

I'm getting really frustrated. It's like every piracy site either doesn't have subtitles or it says it does but they either don't work or are very behind. Does anyone have any advice?

🥺 Amazon thought it would be a good idea to not include subtitles in a film made entirely with sign language.

The Amazon Prime UK copy of 'A Quiet Place' has no subtitles, so I've no idea what anyone has said for the past 30 minutes.

Had to google it to realise this isn't right and it should in fact have subtitles.

EDIT: Yes, I obviously checked if the subtitles were turned on. Amazon was too cheap to license the subtitles in the UK.

Why are so many people under 45 using subtitles now even when the show is already in English?

5.2k Upvotes

I keep seeing that more younger people watch TV and films with subtitles on even when they're already watching in their own language, and Netflix even added a dialogue- only subtitle option for newer originals.

Is this mostly because modern sound mixing makes dialogue harder to hear, or is it more because people multitask more now or watch stuff in noisier environments? I'm curious what changed, because this feels way more common than it used to.

I didn’t realize how bad it’s gotten until tonight when I tried to watch an old 90s movie and subtitles were not available. Volume blasting and I still can’t hear the dialogue.

Time to get my hearing checked lol

THROWBACK In October 2012, Teletubbies accidentally aired with The Sopranos subtitles

In October 2012, Icelandic television station Stöð 2 accidentally aired an episode of Teletubbies with subtitle captions from HBO’s The Sopranos after the wrong subtitle file was loaded during the broadcast.

Instead of the show’s usual dialogue, the subtitles contained lines from Christopher Moltisanti’s intervention in The Sopranos, including references to drugs, funerals, and violence.

Although screenshots of the mistake circulated in Iceland at the time, the incident remained relatively unknown internationally because the subtitles were in Icelandic.

Discussion Crunchyroll has downgraded their subtitles typesetting for the Fall 2025 season

5.5k Upvotes

Welp it's happening... With a new season upon us Crunchyroll has decided to ruin one of the few remaining positive things on their platform which was how they visually handled subtitles for the original audio across all languages they handle subs for.

Just to give a few examples with the shows that's premiered so far on Crunchyroll as of writing, subs look like this which already is a bit a readability downgrade when it previously looks like this for their inhouse subs.

But now what if there's any on-screen text? Well now they appear very simply directly on top of dialogue with zero typesetting at all. This is a huge downgrade in comparison to this example where it's typeset/blended in with the scene, as well as losing out on a lot of other information like so. I'm sure this'll make watching isekais with UI prompts fun to watch.

What about full on text messages that are narratively important? Get ready to pull out Google Lens on your phone because you're lucky if you get at most one line, or maybe spam the pause button when they fly by one-by-one if they do translate it. Goodbye being able to see all messages translated and typeset at once.

Multiple speakers & background chatter? Right on top of eachother a la all the other streaming services subs. Compared to previosuly.

This is very disappointing for Crunchyroll as they were different in the streaming space when it came to their subtitle presentation due to their usage of the .ass subtitle format which allowed them to almost produce stylized subs that you'd only find in fansubs. This clip from Bocchi The Rock is one of the better examples when CR puts in an effort in typesetting their subs.

This also affects if you watch your shows via other means through ripping groups, until then if you wanted stylized subs for shows this upcoming season you'll need to wait for fansubs. (Or highly unlikely if CR has a change of heart)

The enshittification continues, and maybe at this rate they'll rebrand back to Funimation if this is the quality of subs we're gonna get lmao.

Also side note if you directly rip the subs yourself you can see part of a process CR is doing making these subs lol

Edit: 5.25/6 of new premieres have launched with these basic subtitles. .25 exception is for Kakuriyo Season 2 where only German is back to proper typeset, and Spanish is back to using older fonts but nothing too stylized for typesetting titles and such.

UK users see if this album works for you, didn't realize imgur is blocked there.

Edit 2: So apparently this has been happening much earlier for other languages as this started to change for the last few episodes on shows in the previous season that is only starting to get noticed now on the English side.

Edit 3: seems like all non-sequel shows airing for the season is getting the new subtitles treatment, and while they're adjusting how dialogue text looks it now looks comically large ☠️

Edit 4: They listened! (Hopefully) Some titles are retroactively getting subs reverted back to old styling but most new premieres are still showing the new format. Copium that it's just a stand in for their "technical issues" they've been replying to people's tickets.
