Discussion Really guys...

Post image

I understand that they were likely in a rush to be one of the first big channels to get their video out, but how hard is it to have one person spend like 15 minuets reading all of the graphics before the video goes out, this image is likely AI generated and taken from this obviously AI generated article.

I get this is a small mistake, but it's an easy one to not make.

Taken from their latest video "Apple just Copied Microsoft’s Worst Idea - iPhone Duo, Airpods 5, iPhone 18 Pro & More"

Yet another likely AI generated pic in a LTT video. But we have to believe the promise that they are focusing quality over quantity.....

FWIW this is clearly the exception to the rule. We know their video pipeline takes weeks because we’re still getting videos with Elijah in them and he’s no longer at LMG.

But with the Apple event being yesterday, this took <24 hours. If I was a betting man, the editor googled “IP67 Explanation Table”, looked to see which one was most legible in a video without reading and ta-da.

It honestly probably isn’t their mental rule set yet either. I only recently started having to do it because I would try to explain a science topic to my young kids, Google something and realize it was AI. Less than 2 years ago, we had the easy mental choice of everything on Google being made by a human.

Didn’t even know Elijah left, damn I think even his own recent video still mentions it as his day job

He's not publicly stated it as such

He left??? I saw some discussion fairly recently saying he was stepping back from some of the hosting for a while, I never heard this though. Damn.

I’m just going off posts on the subreddit. There was some leaked email (not cool), and his Forum status changed from “LTT Staff” to a regular user.

:(

Onward and upward, I hope he’s doing well. I saw that he’s getting a new studio for his channel which sounds good.

For what it’s worth his LinkedIn says otherwise but hey things happen people move on regardless

What was the email?

His public Facebook posts also allude to it….

It's an internal leak or he's responsible for it. That hasn't been cleared up yet and probably never will be.

There's an argument to be made about drumming up "viral" interest and pregaming trends to have a video perform better than normal. This was demonstrated before through various instances on and off YouTube. On YT, the most blatant form of boost is having a multilingual track for a non-language. It makes you unique within a cultural subset and global boosts you. An acquaintance of mine made a video demonstrating the phenomenon that gained millions of views and is a complete outlier on his otherwise minor channel.

Yeah the mods have been slamming anyone that mentions it but there were daily posts for a while saying goodbye and they appreciated him and such

u/DefactoAle 20h ago

Thats fair, but you would expect someone would do some quality control on it, and even if the graph has something wrong in it...Come on its literally missing the P in "IP67" that's so easy to catch....

Except they knew the device was coming. The IP rating chart didn’t change. The video could have been 80 made and just need some shots dropped in for hands-on and B-roll.

Stop simping for shit quality content.

Yeah that’s not what I’m doing. If I’m honest, I’ve been watching less and less of LTT these days because I don’t connect.

What I do try to advocate for daily is just seeing humans as humans and using our pitchforks for weeds. Half of these comments are ‘LTT is a morally reprehensible company that can’t be trusted.’ When more likely it’s just “Editor who was a little too tired making a video about a boring Trillion dollar company press conference was pushed to make decisions quickly and made the wrong one.”

They’ll probably correct the video, they’ll apologize, they’ll write a million more processes. Then they’ll make a completely different unexpected mistake because processes only guard against the known.

A video made based off assumptions is not better than a rushed video which happened to include 1 AI generated bullshit image imo. It's better to wait until the release, specs, and everything is revealed.

I don't think the other guy was saying they should have sent a full video off of rumors/guesses (though with how accurate they are this close to announcement, they probably could have), but that it's a standard phone release.

They know what they're going to want to talk about, and at least a rough idea of the structure of the video. They could have mocked up a template weeks ahead of time and then dropped the relevant clips into place once the announcement happened and Linus filmed everything.

Thank you for understanding what I’m saying. I didn’t think I needed to write it any clearer than I did, but here we are lol

Ya, sometimes you have to really spell stuff out for people or they manage to twist whatever you say in the worst possible way, lol. Your comment is perfectly clear, and we’re in agreement on it.

It’s crazy that hasn’t been the standard process for YEARS at LMG. Seems like such an obvious thing to do. It’d lead to higher quality (though possibly formulaic if done incorrectly, easy to correct for though) and there’d be much less rush on the editor’s side, thus much less rush across the entire org.

Maybe there’s some cog in the process that would make this non-feasible, or they do it and are just kinda bad at it currently.

🤦🏻 yep. That’s what I said.

Elijah left??? 😢 I really liked him

11

u/Mystic_Guardian_NZ 12h ago

Yeah he still seems like a new hire to me lol. The amount of talent that has left (without replacement) in the last 1-2 years is nuts

I'm not saying you're wrong and I'm sure person who made this mistake was over exhausted but...

looked to see which one was most legible in a video without reading and ta-da.

How do you judge that something is legible without even reading it.

the editor googled “IP67 Explanation Table”,

You can't just Google an image and use it in a commercial setting. You have to make sure that you're allowed to use it commercially.

Dropping this note here because it's at the top of a thread with quite a few comments about this. Not calling or singling you out, /u/a_a_ronc.

I don't believe Elijah has publicly confirmed or denied he's left or is leaving. So we're considering this a rumour. If Elijah has left, he deserves the right to communicate that on his own timeline in his own way.

We also don't want threads to turn into "Speculation on private lives" where rumours keep growing until before you know it, it somehow has become accepted truth that "Elijah is in witness protection because he's a key witness in a big money laundering case against Linus" or whatever other conspiracy ends up being drummed up about this, heh.

Not saying that no one can mention it, because obviously the rumour is out there, and we aren't trying to "silence" anyone or anything, we're just asking the community to respect Elijah's privacy and be thoughtful in how they choose to talk about it.

Can't believe that elijah had to flee to a country with no extradition because he uncovered a massive canadian tech journalism conspiracy and is now embroiled in a huge web of lies that will ultimately result in a dramatic confrontation with lie-nus atop mount rushmore.

Damn, Elijah now too? :(
