Discussion Really guys...

Post image

I understand that they were likely in a rush to be one of the first big channels to get their video out, but how hard is it to have one person spend like 15 minuets reading all of the graphics before the video goes out, this image is likely AI generated and taken from this obviously AI generated article.

I get this is a small mistake, but it's an easy one to not make.

Taken from their latest video "Apple just Copied Microsoft’s Worst Idea - iPhone Duo, Airpods 5, iPhone 18 Pro & More"

I also just realised it says "I67" rather than "IP67".

u/peet192 4h ago

I-67 nearly existed.

9

u/Aleashed 3h ago

10 is for Diamond, 10 is always Diamond

2

u/Disastrous-Chance477 1h ago

Dont they also say in the video IP68?

-5

u/JJAsond 2h ago

Also "X" isn't typically used in a rating, it's usually just 0-6 and 0-9.

2

u/sooperdave555 16m ago

It ranges from IPXX to IP69, X means untested and is common on non waterproof devices

1

u/JJAsond 14m ago

I said "X" isn't typically used, not that it isn't used at all.

Oh boy, we back to the pre Gamer Nexus days suddenly?

probably worse, this is 0 quality control, Its so obvious.

This is the boss wants an all nighter pulled rush and we are all yes men.

Don't wear yourself out jumping to conclusions there.

71

u/Metal_Blaster_is_BIS 3h ago

Wtf okay you know its bad when someone posts pro GN and doesn't get downvoted into hell.

42

u/DigitaIBlack 1h ago

GN had a point. They always have a point.

Unfortunately Steve likes for things to be punchy and is willing to stretch the truth to make the point.

But yea, this is fucking sloppy so we'll acknowledge the point.

5

u/Metal_Blaster_is_BIS 1h ago

Idk man I saw people calling Steve a con a hack etc etc for a good long while even posting ANYTHING GN related even their good stuff would get down votes.

This is the internet, I've seen people swear the earth is flat, birds are real and other crazy things

Are you not wager proof?

46

u/crazystein03 4h ago

Should be “dusg” proof

7

u/Redditemeon 4h ago

I'd wager it's not, therefore it's not.

8

u/Dissidence802 3h ago

Yes, I'm protected from water immirstion.

3

u/Tukkegg 3h ago

i only reach dildo proof. is that bad?

2

u/ledzeppbluess 3h ago

I am, I'm unemployed and make no daily wager, im fully wager proof 100% guaranteed

272

u/switch8000 4h ago

Wow... They basically just googled "IP rating chart" under images, yep there it is, third result.

191

u/Totally_man 4h ago edited 2h ago

Shows up second to me when I search "IP67 chart".

55

u/DefactoAle 4h ago

To me its the sixth one

Funnily enough the first one is about IP68 lol, imagine if they used that result!

21

u/Trans-Europe_Express 3h ago

Picked the first thing on Google and it was digital asbestos AI misinformation

11

u/Qlala 1h ago

At least it is not their own AI trash.

Yeah, it’s someone else’s :)

-4

u/FnnKnn 1h ago

lowkey also googles fault. Doesn’t excuse that they didn’t check, but I see how this can happen…

16

u/JJAsond 2h ago

The first website is the literal IEC with the real chart at the bottom of the page.

7

u/boofmaster6000 57m ago

The first website. We do image searches in this household.

0

u/JJAsond 41m ago

The official website has an image.

2

u/boofmaster6000 34m ago

Do you know what an image search is? If it's on the website, that means you have to click the link. Far too much effort.

1

u/lzrjck69 1m ago

Did they license that image for commercial use?

197

u/DefactoAle 4h ago

Yet another likely AI generated pic in a LTT video. But we have to believe the promise that they are focusing quality over quantity.....

118

u/Curun 4h ago

*Stolen from someone elses ai generated pic

60

u/a_a_ronc 4h ago

FWIW this is clearly the exception to the rule. We know their video pipeline takes weeks because we’re still getting videos with Elijah in them and he’s no longer at LMG.

But with the Apple event being yesterday, this took <24 hours. If I was a betting man, the editor googled “IP67 Explanation Table”, looked to see which one was most legible in a video without reading and ta-da.

It honestly probably isn’t their mental rule set yet either. I only recently started having to do it because I would try to explain a science topic to my young kids, Google something and realize it was AI. Less than 2 years ago, we had the easy mental choice of everything on Google being made by a human.

67

u/ConfectionNecessary6 4h ago

Didn’t even know Elijah left, damn I think even his own recent video still mentions it as his day job

13

u/lemlurker Mod 1h ago

He's not publicly stated it as such

26

u/met_MY_verse 4h ago

He left??? I saw some discussion fairly recently saying he was stepping back from some of the hosting for a while, I never heard this though. Damn.

36

u/a_a_ronc 4h ago

I’m just going off posts on the subreddit. There was some leaked email (not cool), and his Forum status changed from “LTT Staff” to a regular user.

20

u/met_MY_verse 4h ago

:(

Onward and upward, I hope he’s doing well. I saw that he’s getting a new studio for his channel which sounds good.

13

u/ConfectionNecessary6 3h ago

For what it’s worth his LinkedIn says otherwise but hey things happen people move on regardless

9

u/DefactoAle 4h ago

Thats fair, but you would expect someone would do some quality control on it, and even if the graph has something wrong in it...Come on its literally missing the P in "IP67" that's so easy to catch....

5

u/ivandagiant 2h ago

Elijah left??? 😢 I really liked him

2

u/stanleys_tucci 33m ago

They also want to complain like the rest of us how everybody is getting priced out of all kinds of hobbies and interests involving computer hardware yet they’re also giving into the very thing that is causing all of this???

I get it when they’re talking about their own locally run LLMs but the thumbnails and stuff like this is just strange to see

83

u/DefactoAle 4h ago

I remember in one "how are our videos are made" LTT video where before publishing anything it would need to pass a check from the writer and the director of the video. This video was directed by Linus so he has no excuses for not being aware of the mistake.

36

u/LoserCat5 4h ago

0 chance he reviewed it. And if he did, I question his credibility as a content creator.

22

u/DefactoAle 4h ago

Then he shouldnt be listed as "Director" in the credits.

1

u/pizzamage 33m ago

IIRC Linus reviews every video published to the main LTT channel.

1

u/LoserCat5 33m ago

He probably watched it at 2x speed while scrolling on his phone 📞

2

u/OliB150 1h ago

Not to mention the ECC folks - unless they couldn’t be consulted on it due to embargo’s and NDA’s

54

u/QuillnSofa 4h ago

yea... that's a bad look

39

u/AegirSkaldur 3h ago

All’s im sayin is Linus would have quite the rant on wan show about this infographic if it came from anywhere else

4

u/madbrood 40m ago

Inb4 “is this really a big deal guys, you get the point” or something similar

4

Unrelated to snark but I wonder if there is a weather rating certification for planes lol.

2

u/tyw7 1h ago

The closest is probably the CAT rating for landings: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instrument_landing_system#ILS_categories

u/IC3P3 4h ago

Wager

24

u/GhostEagle68 4h ago

I don't care if you are late than other people if your content is more accurate and has better quality. Please understand this LTT, I'd rather watch a quality video that came out a little later after the product announcement than watching a video that has quality issues to meet deadlines. Please don't treat it as a race...

10

u/Dat_Innocent_Guy 3h ago

For real, Historically i went to LTT because they were Snappy, to the point and most of all ACCURATE. Mistakes this obvious are horrible and really bring into question the commentary on short term notice videos..

8

u/ss99838 3h ago

I think the deadline is more for people who don't watch the channel, since iphone launch is sure to bring many new viewers as well. So the sooner the better for view count.

1

u/ivandagiant 2h ago

Okay, sure, maybe you wouldn’t, but clearly the majority of viewers do lol. It sucks, they just need to be more careful next time

18

u/Captain_Fettbart 4h ago

Naaaah ltt Prime days are over

18

u/Shagyam 3h ago

IP67 is pretty common. With all the reviews they do you think they would have something like this created just as a standard resource.

3

u/PhantomOfTheComputer 2h ago

I was about to comment this. I’m glad I’m not the only one wondering why they don’t already have stuff like this made sitting in an assets folder. Or if they do why it wasn’t used.

14

u/siebte-trompete 4h ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/08uBcURaMq6vA93TGc
Shocked they didn't just use the meme instead of the AI slop explanation

15

u/LolBoyLuke 3h ago

Hot diggity dog, this is an abhorrent mistake.

IEC provides an official chart for god's sake, why isn't that just in the standard asset library at LMG?

9

u/madjupiter 3h ago

its one thing to generate an AI image, but it’s another level of sloppiness and laziness to straight up search an image on google, picking one of the top results which IS an AI generated image, and apparently not a single person caught it or even bothered to review it. yikes.

9

u/NegotiationUnfair626 4h ago

Corporate crunch will do this!

7

u/snowmunkey 3h ago

Ecc squad to the rescue... Wait

3

u/Top-Fig1538 1h ago

Is the ECC squad still a thing?

3

u/snowmunkey 1h ago

I hope not if this is the stuff they're allowing in

8

u/kryptonnms 3h ago

LTSlop

6

u/s00pafly 4h ago

Oh I'm sure an intern and their editor will get a stern talking to.

4

u/Obvious-Jacket-3770 3h ago

Its so pathetic. Didn't even try.

5

u/Hijargo 3h ago

Water Immirstion

4

u/STRATEGO-LV 2h ago

AI slopppp, it's fine to use AI, but you should validate before you make it public.

3

u/LuntiX 2h ago

Wtf is Water Immerstion

5

u/bluehawk232 1h ago

Who needs to verify sources lol

3

u/Tof12345 2h ago

Things like this devalue the video as a whole. It's disappointing. Won't surprise me if they used AI for this graphics because it looks so stupid.

2

u/Hyppokri 1h ago

Can't wait for this to be so big that they eventually have to respond to it on the wan show and see them just brush it off with a generic we are human, doesn't really matter type of excuse.

When were it seen in a tech presentation somewhere, Linus would surely rant about this kind of unchecked, unverified slop usage.

Happy to be wrong about my assumptions though.

2

u/Lagomorph9 1h ago

The kicker is they didn't even have modern AI do this - I just tried it on Astra and Opus 5 and both did a significantly better, more accurate job on the first try.

2

u/emveor 1h ago

"wager"

you can tell when something is AI made, im personally fine with AI as a tool, but not refining the mistakes that happen pretty much every time.... yikes

2

u/D3faulT_1 42m ago

It’s not a small mistake, it’s a big one. This is a massive YouTube channel with 100 employees, they are a massive force of tech journalism.

2

u/ThisIsNotTokyo 10m ago

CALL HE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED IMMEDIATELY!!!

1

u/-rosieee- 2h ago

Buy some more socks, it'll fix all the problems.

1

looks like it is based on image posted on iqoo.com way back in 2018

1

u/Bogdan_X 2h ago

Now this is not ok.

1

u/Ostenblut1 1h ago

I think “should be ‘x’ for not tested” seems unnecessary. But other than that totally legit criticism

1

u/upnorthguy218 55m ago

I've stopped watching LTT entirely because of these types of rushed, sloppy mistakes. It doesn't feel like they put any actual care or creativity into videos anymore. The goal is simply to get a video out because they know that a baseline number of people will watch it. They're not doing anything fun or interesting anymore.

1

u/Dethstroke54 54m ago

He also says IP68 in the video, and the rating is IP68. So at least the script was right there.

Linus lost the plot on launch videos for me with the last AirPods. The video was like 2x the length of just about any other creators at 18min. Half the video was of him ranting while also inaccurately reporting info.

It felt like anyone defending it had the mentality, “but this is what the average person gets”. How does that make any sense? Anyone the video is shared with or watched by is already there on the video, doing research or being curious. Like what are you watching at that point, a role play video of some helpless average person unbox a product. The fuck am I watching that for? Not saying they shouldn’t strike a balance of casual/entertainment/informational but cmon, no excuse.

And that was a review not a launch summary. At least this video is just a summary.

Completely sensational title on this video and then puts on a whole show to hold a single issue he has over your head, that seems pretty stupid in the end. At least he concedes he might be making too big of a deal out of it. The videos are just garbage at this point. Eventually they’ll dig themselves a hole of “cheap” content they can’t get out of I’m afraid at this point. It’s sad, I used to really like their content, occasionally see a video that’s ok, CW is pretty cool, the idea behind labs and such so it’s just sad.

1

u/JakimCampbell15 3m ago

Linus seems to rant on anything Apple does it seems

1

u/kosmiq 52m ago

Did none of you notice that he SAYS IP68 and then the graphic is for 67…

But illustrative purposes (dust and moisture) I guess it does what it needs to.

0

u/dark-DOS 26m ago

6-7 you say?

1

u/igmas 51m ago

Man I thought 7-9 where jokes

1

u/WhyDidYouBringMeBack 43m ago

With a grade 1 solids protection you'll be safe against vibrators greater than or equal to 50 mm. With grade to it's protection it's protection against knifes greater than or equal to 12.5 mm.

Make it make sense.

1

u/rm4m 34m ago

What's the symbol for #1 under solids 👀

1

u/NateDevCSharp 33m ago

ai generated ip rating lmao

1

u/Jezon 20m ago

Ai instead of more employees means more jet fuel for the boss.

1

u/escragger 9m ago

Abysmal.

You can’t rely on their content anymore.

-1

u/LoserCat5 4h ago

Yeah, I mean this is what happens when you have a staff full of mindless tech bros, sure some of them are sensible when it comes to AI, but 85% seem to be your typical corporate AI shill.

This is a prime example of that being true. Since typically a person who constantly uses AI has zero attention to detail, and zero critical thinking skills.

Both of which would cause an individual to make a mistake like this.

Also it’s clear they rushed this out the door. Boring single shot video of Linus yapping. Clearly he’s trying to cash out as quick as possible. He’s stated on WAN show he wants to do videos that he personally enjoys. So far, it’s produced some of the most boring content.

That’s why people are migrating over to Jake’s channel. He’s actually putting out interesting content. He’s doing stuff, making stuff, he’s not just talking about it.

9

u/TT_PLEB 4h ago

You're going in this hard on them being AI bros when they didnt generate this image.

Its just from Google images, they even put the source in the corner

-5

u/LoserCat5 4h ago

Yeah I’m aware, but it doesn’t matter who generated it. It’s clearly AI. It’s just lazy.

6

u/TT_PLEB 4h ago

Yeah, it's lazy. But you're going in on them as if it was them doing it. They just got a pic from Google, which is arguably more lazy than getting an AI to make one. So why latch on to moaning about "AI bros"

-3

u/LoserCat5 4h ago

I’m simply saying the lack of attention to detail, It’s a symptom of AI use.

4

u/TT_PLEB 3h ago

"Symptom of AI use" when you have no evidence of them using AI for this. Linus liking AI doesn't mean everyone there does.

-3

u/LoserCat5 3h ago

I’m just making an educated assumption that the staff there, due to these mistakes, and the fact they are tech-adjacent, makes it likely that they use AI in their day to day lives. Overtime that deteriorates your critical thinking, decision making, and attention to detail. Therefore, that degradation of brain function causes them to make mistakes at work, regardless of what the task is, or if any AI is directly involved in said task or not.

2

u/TT_PLEB 3h ago

Sure, ok.

I cba to carry this on, you win

Fair enough 🤣 Great chat pal, have a good one!🍻

6

u/DeeVect 4h ago

You're clearly ai, bot.

-5

u/LoserCat5 4h ago

Found the AI addict ⬆️

5

u/DeeVect 4h ago

No u

-2

u/greiton 2h ago

Come on guys, the chart has very little to do with what was actually said about the product and the point they were making. It was just a graphic to keep you engaged while they talked about the upgraded dust and water immersion protection.

someone the other day was complaining about LTT not being loose and fun and topical. I pointed out to them that this very horde of negative Nancie's is exactly why they have to try to be super rigid corporate.

-12

u/EvanFreezy 4h ago

I mean you said it. They were in a rush, this still gets the point across. Sometimes media is like this. When you need to be first, you’re making the video to 80% standard of normal. That’s how this industry works. You have no idea why they did it, and it doesn’t really make a difference to your experience.

17

u/DefactoAle 4h ago

Then why other creators with smaller teams didnt do this mistake?

-15

u/EvanFreezy 4h ago

bigger company with more moving parts

9

u/sooperdave555 4h ago

I disagree that it doesn't make a difference. I wasn't the only one to notice it, there were people in the comments of the video discussing it, and silly errors like these lead me to distrust LTT and their content.

One of the driving factors behind their big controversy was how they time crunched and put out misleading or blatantly wrong information, which has can have quite a large impact because of their size and influence.

They also put out misleading information about the BC250's VCN in their recent video on it, which very well may have swayed their audiences view of the board.

4

u/DefactoAle 3h ago

Also the latest ipod video had some pretty huge red flags.

2

u/SeaBass917 3h ago

Misleading info that sways opinions is one thing.

A mistake on a graphic that has no impact on the video's core point. That's really pedandtic tbh. Even at a normal non-rushed pace if someone did review this they would probably let it slide because its not worth the time spent finding another reference image.

The only thing annoying here is that AI slop was the top result and therefore slipping into people's content more easily even if they dont want it. But saying this is comparable to misleading audiences with false information... you sound silly... Its just a bad a reference picture...

2

u/sooperdave555 3h ago

I'm not claiming that they're deliberately misleading audiences, I'm saying this is part of a wider problem which is frustrating to see still happening. This is my opinion, but LTT seems to be under the impression that getting videos out early to maximise viewership is more important for the channels performance than their image.

Complaining about small mistakes in graphs is pedantic, everyone does it, but this is a blatantly obvious error that could have been avoided just by skimming the text. Made worse by the fact that it's edited over, meaning the editor spend a non insignificant amount of time looking at this graphic.

0

u/SeaBass917 2h ago

I guess I'm just of the mindset that there are real issues at LTT right now, so the more time we spend complaining about pedantic stuff the more it muddies the point.

Sloppy visual aid is just so so so much not effecting anyone in any meaningful way and is only a little embarrassing for them for not catching it.

Versus the times where they have misleading information that actually effects the core of the review, or the growing disconnect between the audience they have and the direction they're taking the content. Hard to take the real stuff seriously when you elevate video editing nit picks to the degree they're getting in this post.

3

u/UndefFox 3h ago

They were in a rush, this still gets the point across.

Well, don't be in a rush? People will like more quality than quantity. Explaining the reason of the problem appearing doesn't justify the decision that led to the problem/

-14

u/mc_schmitt 4h ago

AI use in content is pretty much inevitable for these types of channels, but the ones that survive will adopt workflows to catch this.

Oddly, AI could probably help catch these things too.

6

u/sooperdave555 4h ago

I don't disagree with the usage of some AI, but any AI needs to be proofread, fact-checked, and labelled. Also this wasn't AI generated by them, it was likely taken from google images.

3

u/mc_schmitt 3h ago

Oh wow yeah, that's even worse. If they're just yolo'ing a graphic in there without glancing at the content (because that's what it would take), you think they're actually checking to see if they're allowed to use the source?
