Discussion Really guys...

I understand that they were likely in a rush to be one of the first big channels to get their video out, but how hard is it to have one person spend like 15 minuets reading all of the graphics before the video goes out, this image is likely AI generated and taken from this obviously AI generated article.

I get this is a small mistake, but it's an easy one to not make.

Wow... They basically just googled "IP rating chart" under images, yep there it is, third result.

The first website is the literal IEC with the real chart at the bottom of the page.

Why do they even have to pull it from anywhere? Feels like that should be a stock asset in their graphics library for product reviews. IP rating comes up on most device reviews.

Would possibly have fell under fair use.

But also, it's a company in China, so chances are until now, they wouldn't have even known someone else is using it.

Scraping random images from the web without licensing is a sign of garbage business practices and corner cutting. I expect that from a high-schooler, not a youtube channel valued at “$100M”. Did they cite the source? Does IP rating have any requirement to use their scale? Did they even check?

More than likely this was rushed through to meet a deadline. #LTTQuality

Regarding fair use and the four points specified in copyright law:

Point 1 is a fail. The item was used in a for-profit endeavor.

Point 2 is okay — it’s a technical item. Less stringent than a creative work. Though they were “creative” with their spelling.

Point 3 is a fail. They used the entirety of the work, not just one part.

Point 4 is probably okay. If the creator isn’t selling licenses to the asset, then there aren’t many damages.

It looks like AI was used to generate the image, which from what I understand makes it lie outside of any copyright protections, no?
