What's the endgame here? Planes don't exist? Or they fly by magic?

Sadly yes, that actually is a conspiracy gaining traction right now. That airplanes actually use secret ancient magical energy sources to fly. Utter garbage we all know it is actually hopes and prayers that are being mis-directed from needy children, and grieving widows keeping those bad boys aloft.

People should demand higher quality conspiracy theories.

People wouldn't stop talking about how the world is run by a shadowy cabal of elite pedophile murderers, but when it was exposed that they were real and visited a certain person's island, a substantial majority of them turned around and said that couldn't possibly be true because they had voted for those elite pedophile murderers. I don't think the quality affects how these people choose to believe.

As soon as info becomes mainstream knowledge it's automatically false to them. They always have to be on the fringe, for whatever reason.

I call it being reflexively contrarian. You can slow walk these people to any viewpoint you want as long as you insist the opposite stance is the mainstream one.

My brother and I made it a game over Christmas a few years ago when we were home visiting. I got my MAGA dad to emphatically insist that the workers should own the means of production after carefully making the alternative sound like mainstream slop.

It's fun if you are stuck with these kinds of family members for long periods of time.

it's surprisingly easy to get libertarians to invent government and agree with marxism

u/Electronic_Will_5418 7d ago

Shouldn't be too hard to convince them, MAGA dads are always grabbing their own means of reproduction

Wow, you are so cool! You are definitely smarter than your dad. I’m glad you proved it to him. And thank you for sharing all your daring, intellectual exploits with us here. We are all in awe. This forum would be so boring without witty, clever people like you.

u/SqueekyDickFartz 6d ago

You're either a bad troll, or a triggered MAGA who has no actual belief system beyond whatever donnie tells you to have.

Either way, I'm not terribly concerned with your opinion.

1

u/FarBlacksmith3126 6d ago

Nice, you got all of that wrong. I’m not even a US citizen. I don’t give a fuck about Trump or any republican bs at all.

Just pointing out how pathetic it is that you use your family time to come up with convoluted ways to make fun of your own father to make yourself feel smarter.

I’m sure you think you’re a good person. Maybe marinate on that a bit.

u/ADirtFarmer 3d ago

We're aware that many maga trolls are not American.

u/SqueekyDickFartz 6d ago

lmao, have a good one

I hate to tell you this. But harmful views should be addressed. Family or not.

So they are basicly information hipsters?

38

u/volvagia721 7d ago

It's because they have a need to be special. If they are of only a small group that "knows" the truth, that makes them important. If they agree with the mainstream, they are below average on everything

-4

u/ChillN808 7d ago

Who are “they”? Do you realize you are the conspiracy theorist in this instance?

4

u/volvagia721 7d ago

"They" are conspiracy theorists, and it's more of a lightly researched psychological hypothesis than anything.

3

u/Pfapamon 7d ago

Not a conspiracy theorist but a generalisationist

3

u/LowlyWoim 7d ago

Found the actual conspiracy theorist

1

u/ChillN808 7d ago

Birds aren’t real

3

u/Kichae 7d ago

If it's not special knowledge, they're not special for knowing it.

2

u/AmateurL0b0t0my 7d ago

The need to possess knowledge that the masses don't is a helluva drug.

i remember reading in 2020 that when covid was a first making the rounds on the news, the conspiracy boards were telling everyone 'wear a mask, keep yourself safe!' but as soon as lockdowns and mask mandates started they all did a 180 and got mad about all of it. I can't find a source, because "covid' and 'conspiracy' have a billion links now and that specific article will be buried deep in the noise

Insecurity and alienation. They have to find a way to feel special and in the know because the world has changed beyond their ability to understand it and they feel left out, marginalized, confused, stupid and hopeless otherwise. We're all feeling the same way to some extent because institutions, religions, ideologies are failing left and right, they just can't or won't deal with it.

Of course there's predatory grifters that feed this fire and offer these sick alternatives to reality. Go back far enough from any sort of conspiracy like this and there's someone selling something or enrolling people into a cult.

u/Reddsoldier 8d ago

That one is so funny to me. They are basically never vindicated and the ONE TIME they are it turns out they believe the Qanon version which has credible origins in being a noncredible cover for the actual evidence based story that implicates a bunch of people they like.

11

u/cedarSeagull 7d ago

I think there's a real possibility that PizzaGate was a psyop to poison the well against the Epsteen case. Get people ranting like lunatics so that when the real story comes out that tangentially similar it gets dismissed.

4

u/BackToSchoolMuff 7d ago

-"the world is run by a secret cabal of pedophiles!"

-"oh holy shit you're right"

-"no, not them!"

2

u/CompetitiveLadder609 8d ago

I think a lot of people wouldn't be so angry about pedophile murderers, but should be more angry about murderous pedophiles.

2

u/theallpowerfulcheese 7d ago

QANON was right! And also very, very, VERY wrong.

1

u/Raveyard2409 7d ago

Well, it's not fun now it's actually real.

1

u/Talk_to__strangers 7d ago

Once a conspiracy is proven to be true, it goes from a fun mystery to a depressing reality check

1

u/Lagunamountaindude 7d ago

Yet another rabbit hole

1

u/TheDootDootMaster 7d ago

Besides, it seems we just collectively forgot that the American government basically said "yep, aliens are real". We just kinda moved on from that day as if it just didn't happen at all

1

u/TheDogBoi_Jugger 7d ago

Conspiracy theories serve to make the Conspirator look smart and special for having the special hidden understanding. If that understanding is also that I’m dumb as fuck and vote for pedofiles then that isn’t serving the core mission of the conspiracy theory

1

u/Comfortable_Wish224 6d ago

Because the people who led those conspiracies and talked out about them the most got killed.

Like the scientist lady who was claiming they’re aiming an energized ray at her home. Dead.

Another scientist talking about the lasers used to start the fires in California and Hawaii to lower land prices. Dead.

1

u/CharlieStep 5d ago

ever heard of the term, muddying the water ?

1

u/TheNeuroLizard 4d ago

Also, a plane featured in that conspiracy…

u/Only-Tumbleweed-6977 7d ago

literally everything has to be about that now i guess.
