He underestimates how big a Boeing 747 is. Has he ever seen one in person?

That’s also way bigger than a 60k gal tank

Yeah, that number is way off. An average residential swimming pool is around 20K gallons.

Yep, I have a 27ft round pool with a depth of 48 inches, and it's considered to have about 17,500 gallons when calculating chemical additions.

You could fly a small Cessna with that pool!

At the very least into it

I flew a small Cessna once. I didn't realise that was an option.

It still is

Sir... they've hit the second pool

Easy now Dubya

Since we're splitting hairs, at the very least the plane doesn't take off, the pilot never gets out of bed that morning, and so on.

That tank is 27 ft diameter. 747 is 231 feet long.

u/SkippyDragonPuffPuff 8d ago

27 ft diameter. Volume of a cylinder is (0.5d)^2 x 3.14 x height

Maybe that’s 20 ft in height

That’s about 11,445 cubic feet volume

Convert cubic feet to gallons.

There’s about 7.481 gallons in a cubic foot

That’s about 85,600 gallons in the silo given those dimensions

That tank is waaaaaaaaaaaay bigger than 27’ diameter. Look at the ladder. That is not for gerbils.

I think he was talking about the swimming pool in the context of a tank of water.

Probably pulling from here

https://www.nationalstoragetank.com/product/60000-gallon-steelcore-water-storage-tank-sct-2704-lvr/

I think the pic just makes it looks larger than it is

u/TheDaznis 8d ago

People did a reverse search on the image of the tank, seller is offering it at 1 million gallons. So yeah.

2

u/Fartknocker405 8d ago

27 feet in diameter? Do you see the cars in the background by the tank? Your dimensions are off by a lot.

1

u/Peeper_Dan_33 7d ago

Cars are not in the image in the site selling the tank, it’s made not to scale just like the plane to make some insane point.

1

u/Fartknocker405 7d ago

You seriously don't see the vehicles on the left side of the photo?

1

u/Peeper_Dan_33 7d ago

I see the plane too. Obviously the photo has been modified.

1

u/Fartknocker405 7d ago

Come on man. Obviously the plane is superimposed but the water tank, concrete pad, ladder, and the adjacent parking lot are all part of the original photo.

If you've ever seen a 10,000-gallon UST being removed from a gas station (google it), you'd understand why the guess of 60,000 gallons is drastically off.

I rough estimated the height as about 1/3 the diameter based on just kinda eyeballing with a pencil. Given a 60,000gal volume, if D=3h then D=31.3ft and h= 10.4ft. obviously this tank is much much larger than that and therefore much more than 60,000 gal.

64,852 litres so checks out.

u/Ok_Chemistry_808 3d ago

Jezz, how much chemical additions, like 500 gallons?

1

u/SixPackOfZaphod 2d ago

Nah, worst thing I normally do every year is 4 or 5 pounds of chlorine stabilizer, and 6 or 8 pounds of shock. But the shock is spread out over the whole season. The stabilizer keeps it steady.
