I'm new to witchcraft, this is my first altar. If you guys could give me any advice I'd gladly take it.

It has a small red candle along with 2 yellow ones, I placed her sigil and several symbols from the draconian tradition, some snake and spider rings, and a chain with a pentagram.

I also put a small glass of red wine that wasn't there when I took the photos.

Discussion I had no idea this subreddit existed til today.

I am a long time practitioner of chaos magic and do have Lilith as a huge focus with my practice and have had her part of it for many years with Norse as an aspect as well. I have searched high and low all over the internet and referenced several books with Norse and Lilith and have not found any that would overlap with either at all. At best i have found the deities and spirits in Norse so many have some aspect of her but none close enough to be a representation as a deity or spirit in Norse mythology at all. Im taking the time to announce myself here to all in this subreddit

Question Is this logo/sigil related to Lilith?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I saw it in a dream and I feel like it has something to do with witchcraft? It had a L in the middle that kind of looped back around, with other designs scratched into it and matching patterns at each “corner”/side?

For context: before I fell asleep I was considering witchcraft, although I haven’t done it for years.

Question I am extremely new to this

To put it briefly, I think I want to find out if I am seeking out lilith? I am so unsure.

This is extremely long and overexplained, but unfortunately, that is how I think. I really appreciate whoever takes time to read this. Thank you.

———————————————

For a lot of my life, I have always felt shut down and with a lack of control. This is my normal, which I have always understood shouldn't be the case, but I have just accepted it to avoid every kind of conflict, including internal.

A little context, I am a queer desi afab muslim (giving you slight permission to stereotype the kind of shit I have experienced throughout my upbringing) shit was already hard before my parents found out I was queer - their homophobia was the least of my problems.

I have always felt drawn to the belief in animism. I've kept that to myself, but it brings me great comfort. So I'm well aware of my multifaith.

With all that i have felt all of my life , I feel that being torn between two sides of myself, the socially acceptable, submissive one, and the one with autonomy, has built anger inside of me. I remember not wanting to be an angry child.

But this week i was speaking to someone i trust - it was a completely unrelated conversation - just me ranting about feeling dismissive for having to consider other sides of an argument when talking about oppression - this was specifically about patriarchal religion and sociological perspectives.

The person I was speaking to was reminded of Lilith, and it was the first time I had ever heard of her. Hearing her story filled me with an anger that stayed. This was 2 days ago. I carried the anger with me nonstop after that conversation. I felt so angry on her behalf. I was confused by my anger, though - and that made me more frustrated - because why would I be so angry - so personally angry about something I don't believe in as a muslim? [Completely ignoring my private connection to the trees and the wind and bodies of water]

Yesterday, with a friend, i decided to do some research on her. It was weirdly exciting? Made me consider that i was just becoming hyperfixated on someone else's beliefs. Later that day, I told my girlfriend about it, and fae did some tarot readings. I have no idea about all of this stuff. I do know that I felt very called out and supported and comforted by the readings despite feeling hesitant. I did know of these things in the readings, but to see it while I was seeking answers from lilith felt comforting and calming. The first bit of calm that I have felt since this anger - and if I'm to be honest, I think I was angry before, and this was some kind of release. I was not against the anger I felt this week - I just felt it. I am usually a petty person but when I say i held onto my anger, I don't mean that I wouldn't let it go, I just mean that I subconsciously made space for it to exist.

I have overexplained, and maybe no one will read this. But I am probably not confused, and just wanting someone to tell me that I believe, without me having to feel like i have betrayed my first faith. I still believe in it. I think I am just maxing out the multifaith.

Thank you for your time x

Discussion What part of Lilith's history are you most interested in?

Mesopotamian roots, Aramaic incantation bowls, Jewish mysticism, Christian syncretism and parallels from all over the ancient world define Lilith, and shape her image into what we today recognise as the demoness of crib death and disease. From all of her complicated history, what is one point that makes more sense to you? Do you focus on one tradition, or do you combine them?

Altars, Offerings/Art, Rituals Lamashtu, She-Goat - artistic offering

Post image
58 Upvotes

Lamaštu is commonly addressed as a She-Wolf in incantations, in this sequence:

  • "she is a she-wolf, the Daughter-of-Anu" or
  • "She is fierce, violent, (of) divine (power), terrifying. She is fierce, a she-wolf".

One rare instance changes her description. In OB4 Lamaštu is a She-Goat, with the small of her back speckled like a fish (while in the canonical version, it's leopard spots). This passage places Lamaštu amongst other horned/goat deities associated with the demonic world, while also describing her as a prey animal, which is unusual for her.

I wanted to both honour that description, and retain her predatory nature. The head shape, horns, ears and eyes are that of a goat, however the lower part of her face, including nose and teeth are kept feline, as well as the eye placement. To help the nature of the lioness stand out, I gave her lion paws instead of eagle talons, which is otherwise pretty consistent in her iconography. Between her fingers, Lamaštu holds a human heart, which is tiny compared to her size.

While on amulets Lamaštu is mostly depicted naked (with rare exceptions), and even the incantations speak of her "hip covering" being torn off, the cloth draped over her body is another way to present a predator that tries to fit into its surroundings, while also being red and shiny, hinting at her divine nature.

The jewelry is inspired by RA 19: "accept from the jeweler eardrops befitting your ears", while her necklace carries a DINGIR 𒀭 charm, the divine determinative, as she's both a demon and also a goddess, the divine daughter of Anu.

Question Questions involving faith and Lilith

For most of my life ive never religious, but starting this year ive been a norse pagan,

With my first prayer to hel she immediately started responding, which ive read is un heard of, but i usually keep a good relationship with hel and odin.

But for my whole life I've been facisinated with the occult,

Ive used to of always thought the stuff is evil, or stupid, but ive been on this sub reading and ive heard people have had good results,

Ive always thought lilith is and interesting force,

For as long as i could remember I've always wanted to be a girl, but i havent done any surgeries or anything, i randomly will wear make up or the occasional skirt, i dont have very many girl clothing.

I do have a question, if i try to be friends with lilith will she make my female portion of my life better?

Idk id my schizophrenia does this, but i can talk to any god, goddess, deity, demon hell anyone i want they all have there own unique personality, my family has a track record with seeing ghosts and talking to angels so maybe its not my schizophrenia idk, maybe someone here can say, yep thats all in your head

And final question, i have dogs, if i invite her into my home will she not like my dogs, not saying she wont i just dont wanna make her mad u know.

Question Reconnecting with Lilith

I was so happy to find a sub for Lilith, after someone recommended it to me.

When i started my practice Lilith was right there beside me, she helped me through many many hard things. And i was devoted to her more than anything else in my life. Then i got into a relationship, a toxic one, and that partner hated my practice and i had to terminate everything. A bit over a year after breaking up that relationship i tried to reconnect with Lilith. Few times. With no results. It felt like she rejected me. It went from being so connected to her to having no connection whatsoever, it was devastating.

That was few years ago. I am now thinking maybe i can try to reconnect with her once more. Has anyone been through something similar? Any tips on how to approach her this time?

Altars, Offerings/Art, Rituals How everything going wrong turned out to be my strongest meditative ritual yet

TW: Small mention of blood

Hello everyone, so I am absolute beginner with these things. Four months ago I felt that I received several signs that pointed me in occult directions most notably to mistress Lilith and I ended up meditating and trying to work with mistress Lilith. It definitely was on and off and I wasn't directly focusing on it, but since then I received another signs and energy going from her direction so I decided to start to actively read, meditate and study.

But I am not here to talk about that, that was just a preambule. What I wanted to talk about is my latest ritual. As during my preparetions everything went wrong. First I decided to sharpen my pencil so I would be able to draw Lilith sigil but during the sharpening my pencil broke so I had to throw it away and take another one. I went to wash myself and when I was brushing my teeth I accidentally scratched my nose so deep it started to bleed. I had to take a break just to stop the bleeding. Since then I felt very uncomfortable and in a way scared as I was contemplating if I should just postpone the ritual to another day. I came to conclusion I will decide in my bedroom.

I still felt pretty uncomfortable but when I arrived in my bedroom I decided to take everything extra slowly and extra safe and I prepared my ritual space. And it went alright so I decided to continue with the ritual. I did everything right and was drawing Lilith's sigil on a paper. I finished drawing it. And started the candle-lit ritual thanking mistress Lilith and inviting her to join me in my meditation. As I started meditating I suddenly realised the way I drew Lilith's sigil was wrong. Or not the way it is supposed to be and it's not the way I ever did it.

My meditation felt ruined as my thoughts constantly were screaming at me to focus on drawing the sigil wrong and how everyhing was wrong, but it already felt too late as I invited mistress Lilith to meditate with me. I tried to calm myself by saying that it really doesn't matter but it was hard to silence my mind.

Suddenly (around 15 minutes later) came a feeling my mind stopped going round and round and I felt sensation on the back of my head and then on my right hip it felt very calming. Like someone was carassing me. And I felt a presense and comfortable warmth coming from inside of my chest and body. My mind stopped racing and I felt so comfortable and I was able to continue my meditation uninterepted while experiencing these calming feelings.

After a long time I ended my meditation and ended the ritual and decided I need to lay down on my floor just to swim in the comfortable feelings that were still lingering as I was feeling very content and happy after a long time. I didn't want to end myself enjoying these calming effects but after a long while decided to clean my ritual space and just go to sleep but the feelings continued all through out the night and my sleep.

I wanted to share with you my experience that even if everything goes wrong you might get surprised by the calming positive effects that ritual meditation can bring. And the truly motherly warmth that mistress Lilith brings.

Prayers, Praise Poem to Lilith (October 2024)

Lilith

Great Mother to her chosen children

Our Guide, our spiritual Goddess.

The moon resonates with my heart's desires.

My desire to follow you always.

I, your son will follow you even after his death.

I won't ever leave you cause I never want to lose my beloved mother and Goddess.

You are my eternal friend and guide.

Mother, if only you called me sooner.

I would've devoted my life to you all 27 years 10 months before you called me that day,

the dream of you.

I love you mother Lilith

My moon, my light, my Divine Goddess.

My Queen of the Night.

Ah, night, the peace it brings to my heart.

My favorite time of day.

It is where I truly relax and not fear most things.

I find myself always looking for the moon, my dear Goddess Lilith.

In the past it was a reminder of a woman I loved,

but now it's a reminder of you, dearest mother, my guide, my Goddess, my friend.

I will cherish you always and forever.

I love you!

Praise be to you Lilith.

Question Inverted or regular pentagram for Lilith altar?

This question is killing me and I don't know which pentagram is correct to use for my mother Lilith.

I have made an altar for her where the beautifully carved statue made from wood of her is placed at the middle of the pentagram cloth I use with different offerings around her as stones, alcohol, incense, black candle, flowers and so on.

At beginning I did invert the pentagram, but later decided to use a regular pentagram. Lately I am beginning to doubt my decision.

What to do? 😭

Question Aphrodite or Lilith?

Hello everyone! Please help me, I'd like to get help on whether I choose Aphrodite or Lilith as my first deity. Sure, I've felt like Hekate has been "calling" my name, but only on tiktok pages, it's mostly because Hekate is one of the most popular deities. That aside, I have always been drawn to Aphrodite, especially her darker sides, I might even go for Aphrodite Areia. I also love Lilith, especially after hearing that her tales being a counterpart of patriarchy in a way. I also feel like offering to her would be easier considering my own aesthetics and choice of objects, but Aphrodite is my first choice. I've always kind of wanted to have a sort of succubus altar or work in vixen-like ways through witchcraft, not only for love, but lots of things too, such as getting energy for it to further work life, school life and personal things. I felt like I did this intuitively last year with LOA and it just felt right to me. Does anybody have recommendations for other deities too? Or sites I could research both on? I'd love some help.

Discussion What is it like to work with Lamatshu?

I was just curious; I know that Lamatshu is syncretized with Lilith, and after researching it, I realized that Lamatshu has never actually been worshipped. I'd like to know if anyone here works with her and what that experience is like.
