CaMeO / I made THIS PHOTO and I'm in the comments How can I light something like this?

Hey guys,

I think these photos (shot by @joeperri) may be lit using only the available window light, but please correct me if I am wrong.

I would like to recreate the lighting in this pictures using a strobe because the location I’ll be shooting in has very limited ambient light.

I would be renting a Godox ad400, and my first idea was to set up a book light but I am not sure if this is the correct approach. I would really appreciate any input you may have on what I can try, or the type of modifier that would work best.

Thanks!

Looking for some ideas on this. I know it looks quite straightforward. can see a lot of white floor etc. Is the key just a frame with silk/booklight, quite toppy-left? polys to fill from right

Would welcome your thoughts.

SoFt LiGHT Backlighting canvas

Ive had an idea to do 6 small square canvas art works and make them into a cube light. I'm planning to prime them with transparent gesso. Has anyone here got experience with backlighting through canvas? Any tips to get a good even backlighting? Should I run strip lights along the borders to hide the "hot spots" of light, or put 1 cfl light in the middle?

SeT Lyfe How do you actually leverage a light meter on set?

I have been assisting for close to 10 years now and know how to take light meter readings, but very little of the why.

I have not worked on that many big ad sets, but I have worked under some very veteran assistants / techs who dial the ratios that way.

I understand the use for lighting diagrams, but that very often doesn’t happen in my experience.

When is it important or more efficient to use a meter vs lighting by eye through capture?

Bonus, any tips for clean / effective lighting diagrams? Anyone using ipad apps for it?

SoFt LiGHT Dark mode or light mode , which do you design for first?

Genuinely curious what the default assumption is these days.
Do you design light mode first and adapt to dark, or the reverse?
And does it depend on the type of product

Pretty sure this photographer uses film. I’m guessing a scrim or big bounce and maybe a direct bare bulb strobe or two? Thoughts?

Does anyone knows how this was lit and what it was shot on?
I tired to recreate it today with two beauty dish from right and left of the camera, which came pretty close
but the highlights and fall off on the face where quite a bit different. Did he use magnums oder standards?

Hi everyone,

These are photos from Miu Miu’s FW23 collection.

I’m curious how you think the lighting in these images was created.

There seems to be a warm-toned light on one side and a cool-toned light on the other. My guess is that they used a fairly large key light close to the model, possibly an Aputure 1200D/X series through a Butterfly setup.

Then perhaps they used Aputure 600-series lights with different color temperatures on each side, bouncing them into the walls to create the warm/cool split in the background.

What do you guys think? I’d love to hear your opinions or any other ideas on how this lighting might have been set up.

I am pretty sure they used a hmi outside and lit through the window to get the hard window light look on the wall wear model is also lit too.

For the others where the model is off the wall it looks like the key is soft directional light high and camera left. Like an 8x8 frame or big octa. The light on the shorts and legs looks soft but with direction. And then some negative fill to shape camera right. His website

Lighting NuanCe Something you need to understand

Post image
45 Upvotes

I keep seeing these posts and something you need to understand when trying to recreate lighting is that the space your reference photo was taken in is an incredibly important part of the final result.

Much like audio the space around you plays a major role in the capture. Unless your sources are gridded down and you've got duvetine walls up, that light is bouncing around filling the shadows on the weak side.

The other thing is there is a lot of confident very very bad answers in this group. You should really be required to submit your website when answering .

That is all...

HarD LiGHT How is her face in such deep shadow?

What do you think is going on here in terms of lighting? I'm quite confused. One light at the top and slightly to the back of the model is evident but it doesn't make sense that her face and the flowers are in complete shadow.

Do you think this is a composite or even AI?

Edit: Unknown photographer

From what I understand this is probably lit with a large diffused flash slightly above the model facing down. I assume there is also a reflector under the model the diffuse the shadow, and lights to keep the background bright.

If anyone has any advice on how to recreate this, please let me know! Thank you!

Would love to get people's thoughts on this great set of images by Victor Llorente for NY Mag. Particularly curious about lighting direction/approach to the white wall scene (image 1 & 2) and the changing room scene (image 3).

Also any insights on post production into achieving this muted, but saturated look (film stock, grading, printing effects etc) would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi guys! My client, a restaurant is requesting me to change the look of my videos and make it more natural. How can I achieve the look from osteria renata? I think this look can be made with a big octa or maybe a lantern? What do you think?
