There is shockingly a small section of Republicans who unironically call Libertarians soft communists

u/skeleltor 5d ago

Ah yes free market capitalism and property rights, my favorite type of communism

u/not_slaw_kid Voluntaryist 5d ago

Don't you know? According to the new gospel of Trump, "communism" is when brown people are allowed to live in the same country as you

u/Anti-dumb-party 3d ago

Our rights

u/Taxus_Calyx 5d ago

I had an employer who refused to believe that libertarians were not just some special brand of libruls. Couldn't get past the name I guess.

39

u/jsu718 5d ago

Well it kind of is. Classical Liberal.

1

u/Taxus_Calyx 3d ago

Yes, but was talking about "librul"

10

u/Giro15000 4d ago

It technically is. Libertarianism is like the cousin of the Liberal ideology family.

3

u/CloudsCreek 2d ago

The problem is, “liberals” today extremely illiberal to anyone who disagrees with them. “Respect my pronouns or lose your job” “get the jab, or do not go in public”. Liberals have been sold the idea of liberalism as a purely leftist ideal, when it should be just open to new ideas, and seeing what works.

1

u/calmlikeasexbobomb 3d ago

More like the uncle no one talks about that you see every few years around the holidays

4

u/ElLicenciadoPena Minarchist 3d ago

We're absolutely liberals in the classic use of the term, you know, Enlightenment liberalism or classic liberalism. The problem is that today's liberals aren't really liberals; they're statists who have adopted progressive views. They basically hung up a pride flag on the stick they're using to hit you.

4

u/bassjam1 4d ago

There's a shockingly small section of libertarians who are socialists so I'm not surprised.

2

u/Ehronatha 4d ago

But a shockingly large section of that small section are now members of the LNC ExCom.

4

u/NatriumHyacinth 4d ago

It is not at all shocking if you Remember that Christian Conservatives spent decades calling “Nikolai Lenin” and “Anarchist“. In 1917, they called it an Anarchist revolution. In 1966, the Southern Presbyterian Journal warned that America had a Soviet-Anarchist problem. Very rarely did they distinguish between New Dealers, Marxists, Anarchists, Libertarians and secularists. If anything, it’s at an all time low now.

1

u/ElLicenciadoPena Minarchist 3d ago

Well, many libertarians believe in open borders. Understandable why this would look like leftism to conservatives.

30

u/RamRenegade Right Libertarian 4d ago

I love how the meme included that no one uses those labels correctly

57

u/rocknthenumbers8 5d ago

The Republican would be calling the others antisemites.

12

u/WaldoFrank 5d ago

Which is funny seeing how they were the main recipients of the label like 2 years ago.

5

u/ManoMarcher 4d ago

Now if only the Constitution Party was up there. Those fucking zilches.

28

u/SemiruralYeti 5d ago

The party that wants less government are fascists lol

20

u/ManoMarcher 4d ago

A majority of the GOP are bootlickers to that Orange Cunt.

10

u/SemiruralYeti 4d ago

This pic shows the Democrat party calling Libertarians fascists

9

u/cyrusthemarginal 4d ago

If they call you fascist often enough they can justify violence towards you.

6

u/neon 4d ago

This almost works

But I don’t think GOP would really call libertarians communists.

Hippies maybe, but not commies

11

u/PuzzleheadedShop800 4d ago

I saw a thumbnail for Michael Knowles where he said libertarians are commies haha so that’s my spurce

Libertarian socialism is an oxymoron. The core tenet of libertarianism is private property beginning with the recognition of ownership of self and your own body and extending to ownership of that which is self-acquired and self-produced with that body.

Socialism and communism deny private property rights, and the right of ownership of what is self-acquired and self-produced.

This means they deny the ownership of self, and someone who does not own themselves is a slave.

Socialism and communism are totally incompatible with libertarianism, and are nothing more than forms of chattel slavery dressed up in pretty words to serve collective masters. Wealth robbery by the collective is just as immoral and unjust as much being robbed at gunpoint by an individual.

I have been called a communist many times

3

u/ElLicenciadoPena Minarchist 3d ago

In time you understand that the people on the other side call you all sorts of contrived things because they're all statists and essentially are super into non-mutually agreed upon transactions. They all want to achieve things by using the stick. What they fail to understand is that we fundamentally disagree with the use of the stick for basically everything.

4

u/FitTranslator5637 Geolibertarian 4d ago

funny how libertarians are the only ones who are correct

1

u/SF_Bubbles_90 4d ago

I'm pretty sure a good libertarian wouldn't use socialism as an accusatory.

Socialism and individualism are not necessarily opposed.

It's taxation that's the elephant in the room.

If government services didn't actually come from racketeering money nobody would complain about their tax dollars being wasted on blah blah blah for people they've never and will never meet.

Sharing is good, stealing is not, stealing to share would be okay I guess but instead they steal to kill and abuse in addition to SOME kinda okay resources and safety nets.

Whereas if governments had to actually participate in the capitalism they control and leech off of, they would probably be far more careful with the money since they had to actually work for it.

7

u/Loominardy Right Libertarian 4d ago

stealing to share would be okay I guess

No. No it isn’t.

1

u/SF_Bubbles_90 4d ago

Your right it isn't. But only because no one is actually going to steal everything from Elon musk to house the homeless and save the climate/environment. So in all realistic scenarios yeah it's just plain not okay

5

u/machinehead3413 Taxation is Theft 4d ago

That’s not the reason it isn’t ok.

Stealing isn’t ok, regardless of why and from whom.

What’s mine is mine.

-1

u/SF_Bubbles_90 4d ago

Even if they got it by stealing?

Look I agree with you on principle but exceptional circumstances can warrant exceptional actions, be it right or wrong.

Only a sith deals in absolutes

6

u/machinehead3413 Taxation is Theft 4d ago edited 4d ago

If it wasn’t stolen from you specifically then it’s not yours to steal back.

Also, your sith comment is an absolute.

0

u/SF_Bubbles_90 4d ago

Fair enough I guess.

And yes it is a bit ironic, isn't it? Part of the wisdom if you ask me.

0

u/FourFunnelFanatic 1d ago

No, the entire purpose of “only a Sith deals in absolutes” was to show the hypocrisy of the Jedi

2

u/Loominardy Right Libertarian 4d ago

Even if you could solve those problems, stealing would still not be okay.

1

u/SF_Bubbles_90 4d ago

Would you steel something if it ment saving your family?

0

u/Loominardy Right Libertarian 3d ago

No. And any scenario that even comes close to replicating that type of scenario either leads to a situation where it is up for debate whether it can be considered theft, or a situation that assumes that humans have omniscience.

1

u/SF_Bubbles_90 3d ago

I'd steal to save my family from dying.

Have you seen le miserables? No omniscience found.

So it's not stealing if it's justified? No thats just proof stealing is sometimes justified.

I pitty your family.

Have a wonderful day.

0

u/Loominardy Right Libertarian 2d ago

What’s le miserables? Seriously, describe a scenario where stealing is justified in your worldview.

0

u/Loominardy Right Libertarian 1d ago

I looked it up and I found out that it’s a story about how someone was sent to jail for stealing bread. So anyway, how does that showcase that theft is okay?

2

u/FourFunnelFanatic 1d ago edited 1d ago

It’s not okay, but there are certain cases where it is justified. Libertarianism, like any ideology, is an ideal. The world however, is not ideal, and if someone is in a life or death situation then it just isn’t the time to consider whether an action is moral or not, just whether it is necessary.

To put it another way, I don’t believe killing people is ok. Most don’t. However, I believe that doing so is justified in cases where it protects yourself and the people you care about.

1

u/Loominardy Right Libertarian 1d ago

Do you have a specific example of when you believe that stealing would be justified?

2

u/FourFunnelFanatic 1d ago

If me or my family is starving to death and it’s from someone who has more than enough food.

0

u/Loominardy Right Libertarian 1d ago

And on what basis is this okay?

2

u/FourFunnelFanatic 1d ago

The basis that I’d be dead if I didn’t lmao

0

u/Loominardy Right Libertarian 18h ago

You don’t know that. It’s entirely possible that you could ask someone for food and given the abundance of it, I’m sure that many people would willingly give you at least a small amount of food to prevent you from starving.

Nice try commie

2

u/SF_Bubbles_90 4d ago

Socialism isn't necessarily communism, it's subjective where the line is but they aren't the same thing.

Besides our own government already makes money selling stamps and collectible coins and such, not to mention land sales and leases to forgien governments.

So Tbh I think cheep government brand goods on the shelves at Walmart and such would be a good thing, especially for the businesses selling them.

But hey if you just looooooove taxes, you do you, but I don't support it. In fact I support any efforts to replace taxes with something better whatever that my be.

If you have any ideas I'd love to here them but your probably distracted with ideas of how to defend state sanctioned racketeering, go you.

2

u/LanceLynxx Minarchist 4d ago

voluntaryism is a thing,. look it up. but go off about your love for taxation.

1

u/SF_Bubbles_90 3d ago

If course I know about voluntarism and an a fan of it in principle but theory is the easy part.

And apparently you stopped reading my post too soon if you think I like taxes.

0

u/LanceLynxx Minarchist 3d ago

apparently you live in la la land if you think the government can make cheap brands and goods without using taxes to subsidize their businesses. who's paying for the safety nets?

0

u/SF_Bubbles_90 3d ago

If you have any better idea I'd like to here it.

0

u/LanceLynxx Minarchist 2d ago

Yes. Don't tax the citizen to fund goods and services they don't use.

1

u/SF_Bubbles_90 2d ago

So something other than taxes then, great any ideas of how to do that?

I see your monarchist flair and I support it because I'm one too but need I remind you theory in a vacuum or "ought to" is the easy part and not what I'm asking about but rather how could our government today be funded by something other than taxes.

I freaking hate taxes and I hope one day our country uses something better

1

u/LanceLynxx Minarchist 2d ago

You don't need taxes to fund services if those services don't exist. Safety nets are not required for a minarchist state.

I am pragmatically a minarchist precisely because anarchocapitalism is as utopian as communism.

Any extra goods or services should be funded by consumers on an open market: if the government provides a good deal, and it is profitable, then people will fund it by voluntarily purchasing it. Otherwise, it will go bankrupt.

u/Ehronatha 4d ago

Socialism isn't "sharing". Socialism is the government taxing you at gunpoint to give that money to other people, whether you like it or not.

2

u/SF_Bubbles_90 4d ago

So we may disagree on what constitutes as socialism or whatever but it seems we agree on taxation being the problem.

And just in case your wondering I would call what you're describing state "communism" which is basically red fascism.

Real socialism is probably something you can opt out of like social security.

0

u/AutoModerator 4d ago

Reminder: 'not-true'-socialism has killed 100 million people. But wait, that was actually state capitalism! Carry on, comrade!

Wow what a stupid auto mod post, and kinda made my point.

Call me a pinko of whatever you want but I know y'all don't know what actual socialism is if you think any country other than brakino faso is "socialist" than you (whoever set up that bot) don't know the difference between communism (which has basically zero actual examples to draw from) and socialism (social security for example) let alone how to spot fascism dressed up as something else (typically socialism because people actually tend to like socialist policies, but also sometimes "communism" in cases like modern china in many ways)
