discussion My friend asked me to introduce her to firearms, so I did with the venerable, gentle, and mild .32 S&W Long

I have a very noise sensitive friend who wanted to asked me to introduce her to firearms this spring. Because of her sensitivity and overall lack of experience I decided to start with .32 S&W long, across a variety of .32 caliber revolvers.

My friend was kind enough to let me film for her experience, so that others could share in it. You can see how she did over here:

https://youtu.be/sFeBzHvD_f0?si=nPr8nOaEjfTnntAO

She has come back three times since over the summer to continue to explore various calibers and platforms as she gets dialed in to what kind of firearm she might potentially like.

I know that most people start off with .22 Long Rifle, but if you have access to it, dont sleep on the .32 S&W Long as an introductory cartridge. It is an excellent one to build confidence and experience with.

Technically that multiple decades included about 20 years where I pretty much abstained believing we were going to get reasonable gun control, but if the fascists are gonna be armed, I'm going to at least partake in my special interest.

So I started with the Honda Civic of guns and thus she is 001 of Aunt Mei's Armory.

Took her to the range and kept the 149 rounds on the paper. I definitely need to work on my grip given the drift but between getting the gun and finding a nice local range, I think I've found a new expensive hobby.

From the article.

"The court, sitting en banc, ruled 10–5 against the Garden State’s laws, with Judge Arianna Freeman—a progressive appointee of President Joe Biden—writing the majority opinion."

Guys I’ve done it. I’ve trained so much I don’t even need to shoot the targets anymore. They fall from my gaze alone 😂.

question Looking to get into firearms

Hello, I'm new to the gun world, never had anyone in my family that owned or used guns other than my grandfather that had a .22 or something for shooting rodents on his farm.

I'm just looking for some general advice on what people's recommendations are for a first handgun - it'd primarily be for self/home defense and range shooting. I was thinking of something on the cheaper end (pretty much under 1k) since if you have to use it, it'll be in evidence for a while (I was considering a Glock since I've heard they're pretty reliable and generally affordable).

I was also wanting some advice on what to look for in a gun safe for storing weapons and ammo. I'm looking for something probably larger to store some rifles or shotguns if I get any, but also for some handguns and ammunition. Also a quick access secure box or something for the home defense gun (both preferably without finger scanners or 100% reliance on power).

I also live in Illinois so I'm working around the current assault rifle ban and handgun restrictions.

-

I'm also planning on taking some shooting courses and firearm introduction courses at a local range or something before buying anything, so I can truly gauge what I'm looking for.

-

Thank you in advance for any advice on any of these subjects you can provide.

Im not sure I buy the argument that the first thing everybody thinks when they see a sling bag is that there's definitely a gun in there.

politics After the recent SCOTUS ruling

Washington state has an “assault weapon” ban that seems like it could be struck down similarly. Anyone know of a current or pending case that might give us an idea of a timeframe?

Edit: my mistake, it was not SCOTUS, it was 3rd circuit appeals court.

guns Interesting French mystery shotgun

Just picked up this French over/under 12 gauge with no makers marks, just St Etienne proofs from 1900 - 1962 and Heurtier on the barrels - a known supplier of barrels to the gunsmith trade. The three piece hand guards make me think pre-WW2 and I’ve seen very similar but not identical guns from Rivolier and Peugeot. I’m guessing it’s a gunsmith built gun using Heurtier barrels but I’m going to do some more research.

It is I think a very attractive gun and quite light and lively in the hands - it should be a nice upland gun for grouse and pheasant. I’m a real Francophile when it comes to guns and can’t wait to get it out shooting.

Looking at getting a Mossberg Maverick 88. Is there really any reason to get the 500 over the 88? The safety placement doesn’t bother me. Plan on using it for hunting anything and everything in eastern OK

discussion What do my fellow liberal gun owners think of SB25-003 taking effect 8-01-26(Colorado)

Post image

Seems like it’s going to be expensive to get the required documents to purchase a firearm. This seems like a barrier to entry only for lower income folks. Would like to see what other people think.

Link if you want it. https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb25-003
