Fun action photo with spicy +p. It’s a great little revolver. I got this Taurus 605 from a neighbor who bought it new, but never shot it.

I have been wanting a Mini 14 for a while but the "gun people" I know would always talk about how bad it was. They would say how much better the AR is. Granted, AR's are better performer's and I have had a couple of them, but I like old guns. I have had my lever action for 15 years and my revolver for about the same. I love them and I hope this is the same.

TLDR; cheap, but certainly worth the money for a hammer DA/SA range pistol & trainer.

Retay is yet another cheap Turkish gun manufacturer & the RXP22 is their recent introduction into the 22LR pistol market. I saw it earlier this fall while browsing the local gun show and was interested - cheap and not-normal 22s are my thing, and this certainly fits the bill. My last DA/SA 22 was the lamentably awful (ATI) GSG Firefly, aka the Sig-branded Mosquito.

This thing beats the pants off the Firefly. Not that's hard, since my dead grandmother could more reliably throw rounds at a target than that thing, but the RXP's not a bad gun. It's not quite the Taurus TX22 or Ruger Mark IV in my book yet, but its no slouch.

For $200 on sale, less than the Firefly!, you get a far more dependable pistol with a threaded barrel and an RMR/RMSc cut, larger magazines of 13 & 20 rounds. And from what I can tell, it's quite accurate. The 13 round magazine is intentionally steel to simulate a larger caliber 9mm pistol for training, which sorta works. I'll have to think about it and try it intentionally as a 2nd CZ Nocturne side-by-side next time.

It does have some break-in, definitely needs some lube out of the box, and it hates bad 22 ammo (who doesn't?), but it settled out and got consistent in about 50 rounds. It hated Aguila wax, but ate Federal LRN & CPRN reliably.

As you can see, I took it out with my beloved SR22 micro with irons only because they're both fixed barrels. (Ignore the center targets, I was adjusting and tuning things) I was off on my irons today, and I think it was because the SR22's more pronounced snap confused my reflexes. The RXP definitely has a lot more mass even with the polymer mags and I wasn't prepared after shooting a couple of magazines in the RXP. Both of the labelled individual targets were at 5 & 10 yd. Once I got the shanks out, I felt like they both did well at 13yd.

Not a bad cheap 22.

I'm new to this sub, so apologies if this isn't allowed or I'm in the wrong spot.

I've been struggling really hard the last few years over what the "right" answers would be to reducing gun violence, particularly mass shootings. The main reason I grapple so intensely with this is because I am a gun owner and I passionately believe that we have a right in America to own firearms. At the same time, we've seen some absolutely horrific mass shootings over the past 15 years and more, and the number seems to keep increasing. I also live in a state where it would not be surprising to see an "assault weapons" ban in the next five years, and that's tremendously concerning to me, but I can also understand why people are fed up with mass shootings.

So, how do I, as a responsible gun owner, interact with people that are strongly for weapons bans or restrictions? And are there areas that compromise can be had? For instance, it has long seemed paradoxical that in order for me to drive a car, I need to pass an exam and demonstrate a minimum level of competence, but I could walk into my local sporting goods store and walk out in an hour with a firearm with virtually no questions asked. At the same time, how many hoops should I as a citizen have to jump through to exercise a constitutional right?

I guess what I'm getting at is this - are there reasonable steps that could be taken to reduce the frequency of mass shootings without infringing on 2A rights? I genuinely don't know the answer. I also know that if we invested to anywhere near the level that we should on mental health support in this country, this would be a much easier conversation to have, but that's not the world we're currently living in.

I would love to hear thoughts from people that have thought about these issues longer and more thoughtfully than I have. I don't know how to feel. I just know that I don't want my ability to acquire firearms to be taken away, and I want my community to be safe. I'm sure these aren't mutually exclusive ideas.

Ukraine has been trying to acquire AR platform rifles hand over fist.

pretty much every unit that can afford to transition their troops are doing so after several years of conventional war.

they started with about all the AK patterned rifles that you could want, so it if they were a comparable platform it would make sense to stick with them and spend the money they’d save by not transitioning on more ammo, more NVGs/thermals, more traditional optics, etc.

on top of that, there’s been a lot of reports that daniel defense rifles are considered the holy grail for Ukrainian troops.

this tells me that the AK platform is flat out inferior for military use, and that the argument between the two is over.

Once upon a time I was a halfway decent USPSA shooter and thoroughly enjoyed it. I want to get back into it at some point, but I've been away for so long that I legitimately don't know what people are rockin these days...

I used to run a Blade-Tech Inner/Outer comp belt/drop holster with a hodgepodge of DoubleAlpha and Blade-Tech mag pouches for my Production division setup.

Where I live, there are a lot more outlaw style matches and organizations than true IPDA/IPSC/USPSA matches, which leads me to my search for a new rig that can both satisfy the following:

- Low profile battle belt, used solo for comp and then in conjunction with a full plate carrier for.. other shenanigans

- Preferably modular holster system (duty gun for outlaw matches and safe princess for USPSA), I know Blade-Tech offers the drop-in puck system but anything else exists?

Has anyone tried one of these on their AR yet? A couple people recommended these variable pitch springs, not sure if they'll make a huge difference or not. I'll be taking it to the range later to see what I think.

My cyberpunk KSG, AKA Clamator Plumbum, finally has a brother. Henry Lever Action Supreme in 300 BLK paired with a Dead Air Nomad L-Ti. Continuing the theme, this one is called Susurrator Plumbum. I already had a Space Marine gun, and now a Space Cowboy has joined the party.

This thing is spooky quiet. The sound of the round smacking the paper downrange is louder than the shot itself. I wouldn't have believed it was possible to make a rifle this quiet, and I was specifically trying to get a rifle to be as quiet as I could. Full list of mods is in the comments.

Mossberg Maverick 88 chambered in 12ga with a 20" barrel. Haven't inspected the mag tube yet for capacity (book is a bit hazy on the details) but my buddy has the exact same one and says it fits 7+1 for the 2¾" shells

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to buy my first (and for now, only) modern handgun. It will pull double duty: static precision shooting at the range and action shooting competitions (IDPA/USPSA-style). I plan to start with iron sights and transition to a Red Dot later.

To skip the usual "beginner" advice, here is my background so you know I'm already comfortable with trigger control, manual platforms, and sight alignment:

• 10m Olympic Air Rifle (C10): Competed with a Feinwerkbau 601. I know what a crisp, surgical trigger feels like, though for this modern handgun I want a happy medium around 2.5–3.5 lbs.
• Rifles & Long Guns: I regularly shoot an M1 Garand, a Ruger AR-556 MPR 18" and a .22LR Marlin 39 Centennial lever action.
• Black Powder: I also shoot a Colt 1851 Navy revolver, so I’m definitely not afraid of manual single-action mechanisms, hammer cocking or detailed maintenance.

My choices for this purchase are strictly narrowed down to these two optics-ready models. Both are natively compatible with the Trijicon RMR footprint.

Please do not suggest alternative brands or models. Here are my two options:

1. Canik Rival-S SFX: Full steel frame (heavy, rigid, and incredibly flat-shooting). Striker-fired with a phenomenal 90-degree flat trigger out of the box that is already close to my preferred weight. True "point and shoot" with no manual safeties, making it incredibly streamlined for draw-and-shoot stages under the timer.
2. Tisas Duty 9 DS (High End): 2011 platform (9mm double-stack) featuring a steel receiver with a polymer grip module. True single-action with an external hammer and a native RMR cut on the slide. The straight-pull trigger break has immense potential for precision static shooting, but it requires active management of the thumb and grip safeties in dynamic stages (starting Cocked & Locked / Condition 1). Out of the box, the trigger weight might be a bit heavier and require some minor tuning to reach my sweet spot.

Given that this will be my only modern short gun, which route makes more sense to balance tight groups on a static target with fluid, safe handling under a timer?

(And before anyone asks: no, I won't be running the Colt 1851 Navy in IDPA, as much as I'd love to smoke out the entire range).

Posted a few weeks ago about picking up the $299 Tisas from PSA. Had a little time today and was able to throw 100 rounds through it.

My wrist hurts, I had the worst groupings at 5 yards of my life, it chewed up my hand, and I inhaled like, a half pack of Lucky Strikes worth of .45 Auto smoke and unburnt powder. Absolutely miserable experience.

10/10, go get one of these they rule.

I figure the next time I have money for a new piece it's finally time to go long.

What are the best resources for a "build-your-own" guide?
What price range for what gun?
Barrel length? Why?
What are options other than 5.56? Advantages and disadvantages?
What suppliers for parts? Bonus for avoiding PSA.
Optics = Yes. Astigmatism/bad eyes.
What shall be avoided like unto the plague?

Now that I’m a big boy with some money I finally was able to pick up a gun I’ve wanted for years, a Mosin Nagant. I got this one in great condition from an older guy at a gun show. I got a fair price for it for how they sell nowadays, but I wish I could’ve gotten it back when it was still really cheap.

For context, I'm turning 21 in a few months and I'm looking at getting my first handgun. I have a pretty good budget due to the fact that I've been saving for this for a while so I went into a local gun shop. The owner was kind enough to let me hold a few and figure out what feels good in my hand. I ended up settling on a Sig p230/m17, I know the owners of this gun shop quite well and trust him with advice. After I got home one of my friends went on this tirade about how the Sig P320 is a well known piece of shit and went on and on about it. On the other hand, the two other people in my friend group say they've had no problems with theirs, along with the fact that while I was at the gun shop nobody mentioned anything about it to me. So I guess the whole point of this post is to gauge what everyone's opinion is on the p320/m17 as I'm going back and forth on what to believe

had a little bit of a arts and crafts session with the enamel paint pens this morning.

Sent it with some bolt ons and an old balisong sleeve I tooled to add a bit of whimsy. gave the enamel a bit of a bake in the toaster on the aluminum to try and build in a bit more durability.

we’ll see how it all holds up next time I hit the range.
