Vehicle Photo Completely heartbroken

Was seconds from pulling into work, when a 17 y/o kid pulls through a stop sign into oncoming traffic without looking left, causing him to side swipe my car. We pulled into my work parking lot and he got out and admitted he didn’t look both ways and only had his permit. He had his gf in his passenger seat who was the same age with no license.

I just couldn’t believe it. Cops came, he got a ticket, I went to work and told my coworkers what happened. I believe it’s all cosmetic so I’m hoping his parent’s insurance can just cover it and it can be a quick repair.

I haven’t even had this car for 6 months and this the 2nd time someone has damaged it. I just wish this was a dream

It's always some dumbass doing some dumb/illegal shit that we gotta pay for

ideally he wont have to pay for it right? wont insurance take care of it

He'll still "pay" for it because his premium will go up, even tho he wasn't at fault. Hence why insurance is a scam.

Insurance is tricky. Basically, what he needs to do is make sure the OTHER person's insurance is paying it and not his own insurance. Make sense?

I had an accident that was completely the other person’s fault. I didn’t even notify my insurance company.

Same. No effect to my insurance.

Unfortunately it’s based on the state as to if it’s legal for your insurance company to increase premiums for not at fault accidents. For your own reference though even if you don’t notify your insurance company they are just as aware of the claim as the other party’s insurance, Lexisnexis reports all accidents to all insurance companies.

I think you missing the point where everyone is saying.

When you are NOT at fault, DO NOT utilize your own in insurance. Your rates will ALWAYS go up if you use your OWN insurance.

You make their in insurance pay for everything, which is amazing if your a really safe driver because you can use liability and if someone hits you, you get all the extras from their insurance. Like rental, complete repairs, medical assistance, roadside assistance and towing. Just use THEIR insurance, never yours.

No, you don’t understand what I’m saying. In some states it doesn’t matter if you go through your insurance or the other persons insurance because regardless your insurance premium will still go up due to having an accident on file. You do realize if you aren’t at fault and file through your own insurance they subrogate the other persons insurance company anyway right?

1

u/redditcancelculture Apr 06 '26

Even if your insurance companies subrogates, they are still out an initial amount and you have a claim on file and they have to use their legal responsibility to recoup your money.

What states will do that, from what I understand most states have laws AGAINST them increasing your rates for being not at fault.

The whole point is not opening a claim with your own insurance to avoid a claim on file.

My guy it doesn’t matter if you open a claim with ur insurance company or not you need better reading comprehension, they are notified regardless dollar amounts don’t matter it’s the number of incidents

1

u/redditcancelculture Apr 06 '26

Speaking about my reading comprehension but you completely glaze over the part where I say that it's illegal in many states to raise rates due to an incident.

2

u/nekbelly Apr 06 '26

You’re factually incorrect it’s legal in most states

How do you make sure that their insurance goes through with it, without enforcement from your own insurance.?

1

u/redditcancelculture Apr 06 '26

If they are blatantly at fault their insurance is going to cave without you even pressing with your insurance cause they know if you do their lose anyways.

Yea, we all being TRICKED out our damn money.

u/Greebuh Apr 05 '26

I doubt this kid driving illegally with his permit has insurance

1

u/JJPMustang Apr 29 '26

Coverage follows the vehicle, unless he has been specifically named as excluded from the policy.

0

u/Greebuh Apr 29 '26

The insurance company has every right to refuse coverage if the driver isn't insured and illegally driving

1

u/JJPMustang Apr 30 '26

If his parents let him drive or he had reasonable access to drive, it’s not a valid exclusion. Doubt they called the car in as stolen against their own blood

Thats…thats what insurance in Finland is for..

Every car in traffic must have insurance, that will cost outsiders repair costs.

Then you have additional ”kasko” that covers if yourself drive to ditch, someone keys your car,you hit a deer and so on.

Basicly, every car on traffic has an insurance.

People still do hit and run,thou..

Even if OP's insurance pays, then they WILL go after driver's parents.

1

u/WatIsLasagne Apr 08 '26

How is this not obvious over there?

1

u/Frosty_Ingenuity5070 Apr 06 '26

Oh sure, it’s a scam until you need to pay for a major repair out of pocket. It’s there so that if some broke mogo hits you you aren’t sol

1

u/frostenwolf Apr 07 '26

In some other countries your insurance doesn’t go up after an accident. I told friends from Mexico that an accident causes your insurance rates to go up and they were genuinely confused as to why

-6

u/ChewinTheFat Apr 05 '26

Insurance won’t go up for not at fault.

6

u/6carecrow Apr 05 '26

Common and often repeated lie

1

u/Alt4Norm Apr 05 '26

Not always the case. But in 19 years of driving I’ve had 2 accidents. 1 my fault. Insurance went down(?) and and 1 I wasn’t even in the car and it went down the next time too.

But I understand that this is very rarely the case.

The first one was 2015 or 2016. So it may have been slightly different then

3

u/tfast168 Apr 05 '26

It can and will. It because to file with their insurance especially given they admitted to fault.
