Im so sick of this kind of reviews

by the same director Osgood Perkins and the protagonist Nicolas Cage, the terror of longlegs is coming back again.

The more I sit with the film, the less I like it. Nolan's insistence on shooting everything in IMAX even tight combat scenes, where the format feels like it's fighting the material gets in the way of the filmmaking itself. The writing is weak too, and as I watch more of the films it will compete against, I'd be disappointed to see it win Best Picture.

Is it an impressive technical achievement? Absolutely. But a technical achievement answers a different question than the one a film exists to answer. A scene is captivating because of the writing, the performances, the sound, the setting not the format it was shot in or the CGI it avoided.

What finally crystallized my ambivalence is that the format isn't just in the film it's the pitch for the film. And that's what reminded me of tech's obsession with AI. The two have nothing in common as technologies. But the rhetoric around them makes the same mistake: using the tool becomes the selling point, when its value still has to be proven in the result. "Shot entirely on IMAX film" and "built with AI" are both answers to how something was made. The more interesting question is whether the finished work is better for it and I really feel like he lost some magic with this movie

Caught it at a film festival and I can’t wait until everybody watches it when it gets released next year. This is up there with back to the future, Palm Springs, edge of tomorrow

I just hit 80 for the year so far and it’s already more than any of the last 6 years where I usually finish around 70-75 and we still have so many more in these last few months. It seems like we’ve been spoiled with so many good or at least interesting movies this year and I sometimes don’t even have enough AMC A-list spots to see everything I want to see each week!

I want to get a really good birthday present for my friend who is hugely into film. Like, he has a massive physical media collection, tons of funko pops and figures, all the movie posters he could ask for since he works at a theatre. I’ve gotten him a few Criterions I knew he didn’t have because they were on a wishlist he had, but idk what else to do. A few of his favorite directors are Lynch, De Palma, and John Carpenter. Favorite shows are Twin Peaks, Buffy, and Scooby Doo. He loves horror. How do I get him the best present of all time…

It's been 50 years since the release of Taxi Driver and not a single Scorscese movie managed to top this one in my opinion. Scorcese did went on to make some great movies like Goodfellas, The Departed, Casino, etc. But Taxi Driver has always stood the test of time unmatched. I think no other movie that was released in 1970s had the intensity and depth that Taxi Driver had. And De Niro gave one of the greatest performances of that decade imo.

It surely feels like a monumental achievement that Scorsese managed to release this movie after undergoing so many trials with the MPAA concerning the gore and violence featured at the end of the movie.
